I hate beer. I prefer tequila and some types of vodka.
My British coworker in Ohio hated tea though. Imagine that. XD He was a coffee fanatic.

If you're going to have a drink, at least make sure you enjoy it. That's why I prefer either scotch or bourbon, because a) you're not going to down it so b) you can enjoy the drink.
Besides, scotch and bourbon is a manly drink ;-P

Feel free, I won't pay any attention.
I enjoy Four Roses bourbon, but it is very difficult to get in my state. I generally find bourbon too sweet, Scotch too resiny, and Irish perfectly balanced.
Except Kilbeggan. Fuck that shit. I bought a bottle for my St. Pat's party and my guests swilled down my good stuff and left me nothing but the Kilbeggan. Ugh.

Yeah I'm just joshin' I don't drink fancy whisky or bourbon. I usually buy lower-end domestic brands like Canadian Club/Crown Royal/Forty Creek.
More of a wine and beer person myself, but that's probably because I'm more into cooking as well.

I'm replaying one of my old Harvest Moon games, and today a character gave me her recipe for cheesecake. If you want you can add wine.
I've heard of adding liqueur, but wine? Ew.

At the geography conference I'm attending they gave us 1 free drink ticket with our registration packs on Tuesday when we got in. Since a few of the kids are under 21, I got their tickets and got wasted and was boisterous while watching the geography bowl competition. Our team didn't fare well, but damnit we had the loudest crowd there

I'm not the type that usually drinks on a regular basis, I'll just have a nip every now and then. I understand maintaining a buzz, but I've never seen the fun in getting blind stinking drunk.
Yesterday was different, though. Pure hell at work. The only thing that kept me from getting drunk when I got home was the fact that I had taken Aleve for back pain while at work so I could finish out my shift. But I got approved for overtime today, first time since store setup two and half years ago. Yay. :-\

I found out something about myself today, when I'm extremely bored and I'm alone, I get very chatty, the curse of an overactive imagination I'm sure.

My point exactly. If you're going to drink, at least enjoy the damn drink. That's why I prefer scotch or bourbon; you're not going to down in a single gulp. You're going to have to drink it slowly. And more so, it's about the drink, not the aftereffects.

Proteas, I hear you about drinking, but I guess sometimes you just need to do it. I have a good amount of vodka down now. I'm making all sorts of typing mistakes but I'm such a grammar Nazi I always fix them. One time when I was really trashed it took me about 10 minutes to make a post. I guess that's the idea--be sober enough to know when to stop.
That's one thing I miss about Ohio. You could buy liquor in grocery stores and at gas stations. Those of you in other states may laugh at me but Pennsylvania makes you buy them in state stores. The model of the other states allows for more experimentation.
That being said though, I haven't been able to drink much due to my need of allergy medicine. They say if you develop allergies as an adult, it's all over. I developed them as an older teen but still couldn't shake them. My doctor gave me Allegra once but it did nothing.

My problem has always been that I hate the taste of the alcohol itself, not so much the flavorings and the like as it is the burn. That could be in large part to the poorer quality liquors I've had access to, or it could be in part to not drinking that often and simply not getting used to it. I'm a wimp that way.
My brother on the other hand is a complete 180 to me; he'll drink anything you set in front of him, shotgun it even, just to see the stupid look on your face when you realize he just killed an expensive bottle liquor without so much as enjoying it. I've come home before and seen empty bottles sitting on the counter from where he just got bored and decided to play a rousing game of "let's clean out from under the sink," with him passed out drunk in his bedroom.

:-(
My allergies have been getting worse here lately. I had an allergy induced asthma attack at work last night, and had to go dig through my lunch box to find the bronchio-dilator my doctor proscribed when I had bronchitis earlier this year. All from spending maybe 5 minutes in the garden center trying to help them get done for the night.
---
Also; I'm a dumbass.
I ordered 1,000 #2 lock washers from grainger.com so I could have a small and fine lock washer to weave necklaces with. I grossly underestimated how small a #2 lock washer actually was. To give you an idea how small they are... I've got a dime sitting here with 12 of these washers sitting on top it not a one hanging off the edge or stacked on the other. All 1000 could fill a shotgun shell half full from primer to hull.
I'm going to go blind weaving this next one. I should have ordered the next size larger.

Next weekend I'm heading to the Pittsburgh Comicon. No interesting guests this year but I have been reminiscing about a past con. Michael Turner was supposed to appear that year, but all the stuff on the site said that his appearance depended on his health. Ultimately, he bowed out, and he died about two months later. My boyfriend was all "OMG, THE Michael Turner?" when I told him but it had already passed by then. Guess I pay more attention to the site than he does.
I met him IRL for the very first time at the 2006 Con actually. We were online friends before but that was the first time. We didn't begin dating for another year. Also, in college, my friends and I always used to head down. Mom would drive us. I guess I have a lot of memories with Comicon, even if I have bought less stuff over the years. The ingenuity of the folks at the con hasn't lessened though. Last year the Cyber Woman cosplayer had a cyber baby. I wonder who the father was. XD

This is a revelation...
when did you start to drink, Brian?
As for me,
I like the occasional drink depending on the occasion. I had a few tequilas on Christmas and New Years... and before that, it was the beer with Brian.
But, frankly, I don't like beer all that much anymore. I prefer to sip a tequila, although everyone tends to do shots.
I've made a delicious drink a few years ago with tequila, and I barely remembered...
Ginger ale
a few squirts of lime
a little bit of sugar
some tequila.
No exact proportions... just to taste.
You can't hardly taste the alcoholic burn, but it's tastes something like a margarita.

Well, back then I drank more (and that's quite a lot to say seeing that I don't practically drink at all.)-- and I experimented with drinks. So I don't doubt whatever I've made has been done before.
Like...
cherry syrup with tequila is pretty good too, although it's sometimes too sweet. But it's fixed with some mineral water or seltzer.

I was at a local grocery store recently and passed by the drink mixers section, and they had mixer packets for sale. You know how you can get the little flavor packets for bottled water? Yeah, same basic concept, but for mixed rinks. Like mojito mix packets, cosmopolitans, that kind of thing. Just add them to a bottle of club soda, add your liquor, and voila.
I was just kind of dumbstruck there for a minute. Another one of those things one of us should have come up with sooner. :-\
====
The #2 lock washers didn't work for what I wanted to do. Far too small to weave with. Now I've got a thousand of these damn things and not much of anything to do with them. :-\

Never heard of it. I like mate because it takes a while to drink (literally, hours) so the caffeine effect is more dispersed, and not just a shock.

Got back from DC last night around 10 and I had a really awesome trip. I went to a couple of sessions at the conference but I missed out on the exhibition where they were giving away a bunch of free stuff, and since they had scheduled maintenance on the subway, it took forever to get from our hotel to the conference or anything else.
I wish I had managed my time better and actually looked at some maps earlier in my trip because I totally didn't go near all of the Smithsonian museums until a day or two before the end of my trip. So the only actual museum I got to was the Air and Space, which was pretty neat. I did go on tours of the capital building and the supreme court and hung around the library of congress but because of the metro I missed my scheduled tour for 8:30am.
I did make it to the zoo and the botanical gardens and they were pretty neat. They had a lot of orchids, so I guess I missed the tulips this year (I was a week or two late). Spent a lot of time walking around the city. The zoo was kind of lame. A lot of the exhibits were closed for whatever reason and the only animals that were out were depressing.
Saw a Nationals game with Timmy on Friday night and checked out the national mall at night after the game. The Vietnam, Korean and WWII memorials were all pretty moving at night with almost nobody else around and all lit up.
