.... why the hell didn't I think of this sooner?

What's really scary to think about is that I've got (somewhere in my closet) a box of assorted sandpaper sheets, and hidden among them I have a few sheets of this in the highest three grits available, which I bought to sharpen knives with and failed miserably doing so (I didn't understand that you're supposed to pull the blade when polishing instead of pushing it). I've been racking my brain on how I could use that and make an artificial strop for myself to use with my straight razor, and I think you've just given me the best idea so far.

I'm still using an electric razor :(

Oh well.

I've been making due with an old Gillette Mach 3 I've got, so don't feel bad.

My main problem right now is I need a finer stone and a better strap to use. My surgical-black Arkansas stone can put a shaving edge on a straight razor, but it's considered "coarse" for razor use at about 4000 grit. And my strap... is well over 90 years old, and pretty battered and beaten from it's previous own who used it as a final step for ANY knife he sharpened, not just straight razors. But this all may be avoided depending on how well this whole polishing paper thing works out...

I usually do either mixed berries or just blackberries. Strawberries by themselves are pretty tasty as well.

starting to get ready for my DC trip. we had a meeting today to figure out the route, we're leaving at 4:30am in order to skirt the rush hours for all the major cities we'll be driving by (Boston, NY, New Jersey, Philly, Boltimore).

I'm being sort of nerdy and looking at some of the talks at the conference and putting the ones I want into my phone calendar so that it'll remind me when and where in the hotel they are. Of course I already have the capital, library of congress and supreme court tours I am scheduled for in my phone. (Watch me leave my charger at home and be phone-less for the whole trip)

Now I have to figure out how to pack for the trip. I'll be there from Tuesday to Sunday and there are 8 other kids going, 4 or 5 of them are girls and we're all taking one nine-passenger van. I don' think there will be much room for luggage yet I need a couple of changes of clothes and at least one button up shirt for when we go out to eat at nice places. Then there's my electronics. Should I bring my netbook? I probably would to not be bored out of my mind while hanging around between happenings, but at the same time I don't really know the guys I'll be rooming with or what part of town we'll be in (Skunky if you know the area, my hotel is in Shady Grove and the conference itself is near the woodly park zoo).

The one in the top of frame is a new style str8 razor with replaceable blade, you only use it once per customer.

Here it is polishing up my razor to give you that unbelievable hot lather shave from the Barbers.
You can no longer get shaved by a Barber using a nondisposible razor in Nova Scotia,(probably all Canada) unless it's your personal razor. Otherwise the Barber has no choice but to useone that the blade is disposable.

I don't know why that is, seeing as barbarsol will kill anything & the Ultra violent ovens they keep scissors, cutter blades etc. in will kill anything organic, even without washing it in disinfectant.

Ahhh sharp precission instruments, makes my heart glad ;)

Thanks guy's , this topic made my evening.

Not at all. Weird that it would come out that way. Maybe cut back on the butter some, I've found it varies a surprising amount.

Malachy, I don't know much about that particular area, other than the National Zoo itself. A quick jog up the Red Line to Dupont Circle, though, will bring you into an area with TONS of good places to eat, neat book stores, interesting shops, a decent pool hall...and a very fancy Church of Scientology, oddly enough.

It's also the neighborhood in DC where you are most likely to see men holding hands.

Me = broke as FUCK, like, I'm about to have to start carrying top ramen with me to work for lunch, broke. I have to make due with what I have until I can afford better, which is going to be a while yet. Thus why I've been brainstorming for things that will work instead of just buying them. Creativity is a great money save tool.

Okay, now you're just being cruel.

At 4/8/10 11:46 PM, morefngdbs wrote: Here it is polishing up my razor to give you that unbelievable hot lather shave from the Barbers.

I've got a hot lather dispenser from Conair, and it works pretty well except for the fact that the actual lather dispening nozzle is gone, so I can only use it with shave gel. It works pretty well, almost like having a good shave after you get out of a hot shower.

You can no longer get shaved by a Barber using a nondisposible razor in Nova Scotia,(probably all Canada) unless it's your personal razor. Otherwise the Barber has no choice but to useone that the blade is disposable.

There's one place that's opened up here locally (like 30 miles away local to me) that specializes in the old style hot towel and hot lather shaves, but I think they use those disposable razor blades like what you're talking about.

I don't know why that is, seeing as barbarsol will kill anything & the Ultra violent ovens they keep scissors, cutter blades etc. in will kill anything organic, even without washing it in disinfectant.

Ignorance and fear, mainly.

April seems to be a bad month for my car. First my muffler fell off last week, but that was reattached without much expense or incident. However, one of my wheel bearings started to go today. I can't get that fixed until at least Monday. I know where part of my tax return is going. My car always seems to act up whenever I plan trips to Pittsburgh too. I'm going for Comicon next weekend.

Good news is I almost have a project done I've been busting my ass on. I can finally start focusing on the shit ton of work my other professor assigns every week. I just put it off to finish my project.

No longer in Hawaii *sadfaic* Boo, hiss. My plane home did get delayed for 4 hours though, allowing me to see a cool museum and hit some botanical gardens I would have missed otherwise. I'd say it was worth landing at 4:40 am, wouldn't you?

I recall seeing a botanical garden as a kid on one of the Canary Islands. If it was anything like THAT, then heck yeah it was worth it.

When the plane me and my class were supposed to ride from Helsinki to Vasa got grounded due to shitty weather last year, we spent roughly five hours at the airport playing Sega Rally Championship in an old arcade booth. It was quite hilarious I tell you what, with people screaming and whatnot.

Would´ve been awesome if there had been a Time Crisis or The House of the Dead booth.

;;;
Over 17 hour flight from my home to Hawaii.
IT was definately worth it.
Next time I'm going to go to HAwaii for at least a week.
Then Fly over to South Korea & visit my brother & his wife.
Then come back to Hawaii for another week at least.

Of all the places I've been in the Caribbean & some are very nice, IMO Hawaii was better.
(But the Ocho Rio's area of Jamaica is a close second)

Scheiss , I forgot to post a pic.
this was Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head in the BG.
I was hoping to get near a sea turtle, they often come right down the beach heading toward Pearl Harbour in the late afternoon , evening, I seen them from the hotel & the bar, but was never lucky enough to get near one in the water.

Yeah, I never did get to see a sea turtle, but a Humpback Whale breached about 100 yards off of a sailing catamaran I was on while near that same beach. We were out past Diamondhead point, though. It was way cool. I had some family on the island that could show me around to the cool stuff you'd never know to check out. Next time I go, it'll have to be for more than a week.

Nope, but I could easily see how such close quarters can drive people to do weird things for the hell of it.

Though if it was me in funk's situation, I would have just turned up the speakers on my computer and blared amateur porn, though... only thing creepier than the idea of hearing two people have sex is the idea of one person beating off.
