Someone was nice enough to create a drive-through pharmacy for Wal-Mart today.

HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME
Sure, it's a school conference but I may be going to Dungarven, Ireland this summer.
I just hope I'm not constantly stuck in the conference. I want to see the country.

I'm going to Washington, D.C. in April for a conference and I'm all excited for it. It's a geography conference and I'm a political science/history contract, but it looks like our whole trip will be paid for by the school, and I'm the only one interested in visiting the capital so I emailed my senator asking about tours for the supreme court, the capital, and the library of congress.

You don't need any kind of introduction from your senator to visit the LOC - it's open to the public, and if you want access to the reading rooms and the stacks you just have to go get an ID card. Takes about fifteen minutes. Most people just go to the Jefferson Building and look around the big fancy atrium area, then go up to the viewing platform over the main reading room.
Definitely try to get in to see the National Archives.

Yeah, and the capital visitors center can hook you up with tours of the capital building now too, But since you used to book tours with your representative of choice, they usually have a staff member do a tour and bring you to places of interest pertinent to your state and sometimes visit that member's office. And there were check boxes on the form. I like checkboxes. So I checked off the rest of the stuff because I could and it was easy

The last time I visited Washington D.C. you could still buy stuff from vendors on the White House lawn. Yeah. That long ago. I did enjoy the monuments and the Capitol building is something to see.

Explanation of terms;
"Nerf" with regards to online gaming referrs to any act taken by the developers or programming team that negatively effects an aspect of the game, but originated from when developers would reduce the effect of a player's attack. A perfect example being if you were playing Bob on Portal Defenders and Bomtoons decided to reduce the power of Bob's attacks, that would be considered "nerfing" because it would be like Bob beating on the computer generated baddies with a foam bat in comparison to the way his attacks used to be.... or playing as April or Dan.
"Farm" with regards to online gaming refers to any action that can be repeated ad nauseum for the sake of gaining experience points, cash, or in-game rewards and goodies such that you are literally "farming" the action for stuff.
So... when I signed on the other day, a nice little patch had gone through and they had nerfed my farm mission. This depresses me, because I was making HUGE amounts of in-game cash off of it, and had spent most of what I had buying stuff for my characters the night before it was nerfed, so when I signed on, I was pretty much broke.
And they're calling for snow flurries here in the next day or so... WTF?!

Oh, and Mal - the Natural History Museum just celebrated their 100th anniversary by opening the new Hall of Human Origins. It looks really cool. We're definitely going to try and get in to see it soon. I'm working over in McPherson Square, so the fellas might just come meet me after work. Extended hours start the 26th and go on pretty much throughout the summer.
If you're going to be up on the Hill to see the Capitol and the LOC you should stop off at the National Botanic Garden as well. You can get through it in 30-40 minutes if you don't linger, but I usually spend an hour in there. If you're going to be there in the early part of April they'll still have the big annual orchid exhibit (ends the 11th) but even if it's done there are still tons of orchids in the permanent collection. The chocolate exhibit runs until August.
Have a meal at Hawk and Dove while you're at it. It's where all the poor congressional interns go to drink. Awesome crab soup.

Oh yeah, I'm excited for the museums too. Thankfully, a few other kids in the group want to see those. What's great is that we are getting 7 day metro passes for our trip.

Aw shucks, I'm going to miss it by a few days. I'm going to be there from the 14th through the 18th. I'll check out the garden though, that's a great idea.

I'll look it up. Our hotel is a little out of town but near the metro and we're going to do a few nights out with alumni from our school and one night is going to be at a well known Ethiopian restaurant at least one night.
I also want to check out the other tourist spots like the national mall, WWII memorial and Vietnam memorial. I won't be going to the white house because you usually need to book tours 6 months in advance and I'm not all that interested in it.
Thanks for the info, skunky! If you know anything else about the area I'd be glad to hear about it. I'll be there for 5 days and I'm not too huge on geography conferences so I'll be looking for stuff to do around the city while I'm there.

Well, I suppose you could say I know a fair bit about the area, seeing as I've lived here since 2003 ;)
One key thing that I think a lot of people don't understand is that you really can't do more than 2-3 museums in a single day, even with the extended hours. Likewise you shouldn't try to do the monuments and more than one museum in a single day. But you can do the majority of the Mall over a three-day period if you show up when the museums open and plan carefully.

I frickin love all the museums up there, but air and space is my favorite.

So basically, I'm too busy playing gigs to keep up with the forums any more.
I guess that's a good thing, really.
The new psychobilly band is super popular. We've been together only a few months, and already we can pretty much gig anywhere we want.
However, I want you to know that I still profoundly interested in rat flatulence, as well as how to properly disobey warning labels on OTC medications.
For instance, did you know fish tank antibiotics are the exact same medications that are prescribed to humans by doctors? Or that hourly applications of hand sanitizer to infected cuts can significantly retard infection from virulent staph if done soon enough?
I remember when I drained 7 fingered Dell's abscess. Good times.
My band Sin City ScoundrelsOur song Vixen of Doom
HATE.
Because 2,000 years of "For God so loved the world" doesn't trump 1.2 million years of "Survival of the Fittest."

I finally have a hobby that generates income instead of consumes it.
I've started bringing my chainmail supplies (some rings and pliers) with me to work so I can have something "normal" to do on my lunchbreak, and two other people that work in the store are interested in having pieces made. Not sure what I'm going to charge as yet, but I'm psyched about it either way.

Yeah... I suppose I've got to much time on my hands.
This is the piece my store manager told me I needed to get a salary job in order to eat up some of my extra free time for making. First pic is the piece overall, second is a closeup on the weave itself (a Jens Pind pattern made from #8 stainless steel split-lock washers).

On the eve of my attempting to make life absolutely suck for the bastards that run my job (hello call to the board of labor and the home office in sisterfuck, arkansas) I'd like to ask people who hold access to the "staff" forum on TEC to go over there and please read the new topic I put up last night and post stuff.
That's it...
Oh wait shit, that's like blatant self-promotion without adding anything relevant ain't it? Ok, Proteas, really happy to hear you'll be making some scratch off your hobby. That's the dream ain't it? To get mother fuckers to pay you for something you do in your own free time any way.

....?
The dream was to have a cheap way to make Christmas and birthday gifts for people when buying wire was far cheaper than buying an actual gift for them, and I achieved that easily and still am. I'm still doing this now because it's fun and challenging, and unlike my other weird hobbies, this one doesn't make people think I'm a psycho when I'm sitting there doing it on my lunch break.
I can't read my Anne Rice novels, people think I'm a moody goth person.
I can't read my military manuals, people think I'm a violent person about to snap.
I can't sharpen knives for myself or other coworkers, people think I'm going to get up and cut somebody.
I can't sit there and draw, because then I get people asking me why I don't go to an art college.
And GOD FORBID I can't sit there with my headphones on listening to something other than the awful muzak they play on the overhead because someone invariably will poke fun at me for sitting quietly minding my own damn business, especially if I'm sitting there doing it while doing one of these other things.

See above.

Well yeah...that one I could see people getting the wrong idea on and maybe making some noise...

Well, you could make some witty remark to blow them off...that's always fun...

Okay, maybe I do care a bit too much about what other people think or say about me. But dammit, if you're going to call me crazy, at least call me crazy for the right reasons.
That being said, I now return you to this week's episode of "As the Lounge Turns," already in progress.
