Seriously. Why not just adopt from a local shelter? Much cheaper, and you're doing the world good.

Most shelters probably wouldn't give her a dog because she CAN'T TAKE CARE OF IT.

So she plops down six hundred bucks to someone who likes money more than they care about their puppies.

My one friend isn't necessarily a trainwreck, but she's immature. I guess I didn't realize how immature until there was an incident in September. My boyfriend wants absolutely nothing to do with her. I gave her the silent treatment for three months. Her birthday was on the 6th, and I've been debating calling her, but...I dunno.

I can understand where Skunky is coming from. This friend for example...one incident in college, she plopped down $250 for manga at Borders, then wondered where she was gonna get the money for a doctor's bill.

That's one of the things that upsets me the most, not just with this friend. I had some friends who could barely make rent and defaulted on the wife's student loans and yet every couple of months they would talk about how they were driving x number of hours to go to y anime convention, where they would make maybe $200 selling the wife's artwork and end up spending just as much on other people's stuff.

If you do not have money to pay for important things, like the roof over your head and life-saving medications, you do not need to spend money on frivolity. I can totally understand wanting to take your mind off your troubles with things or trips or whatever, but you can do that without spending a lot of money.

My own mother made me really angry this past summer with this. She has four properties, and thus four mortgages. Only one property was generating any rent money. Her husband has been unemployed for probably five years now, and can't even get his renovation projects done on time, so the houses aren't ready to be rented out or sold. My mom offered to help pay for my sister's wedding and encouraged my sister to do a lot of expensive stuff she might otherwise have elected not to do, and then wound up borrowing three thousand dollars from my grandmother to pay for it. Then she took a trip to Hawaii. Now she's months behind on her payments and it's entirely possible she'll lose at least one of the houses to foreclosure.

In all of these situations, the solution is obvious. But people seem to have no fucking self-control.

A good slap across the face would work.

But I've seen that kind of waste in my own family, so I can see where you're coming from. The most recent example would be my brother's purchase of a firearm for home defense. I tried talking him into buying something that was (1) cheap (a) in overall price and (b) cost of ammunition, (2) effective, and (3) easy to work with, namely, a shotgun. What does he go out and buy? One of these, with 5 different safety's on it AND a trigger lock on it if he should so choose to use it, in addition to being fucking expensive to shoot. That was 2/3rds of a paycheck for him in one go... all because he wanted a "cool" weapon.

Well, actually, I think the conversation the two of them had was that they wanted to be able to keep the ammo separate from the gun to keep the kids from getting their hands on it, but they wanted it to be easy to load if something happened, thus they got something with a clip. I didn't think it was that difficult to load up a shotgun in a hurry, myself...

nothing beats home defense than a sword. at least once you realize it's your daughter sneaking in at 3am you have a better chance of stopping the sword from bashing her face in than you do stopping a bullet.

I have to say, I've done a lot of stupid things with money. went on a trip in the summer, got a $600 cat, my wife got a car with inheritance money instead of savings, I've bought sports equipment or we have cable tv when we could just get a digital antenna. the list goes on. But we work while attending college full time, so I think we have more discretionary income than most college students, and we aren't buying things like ipods or phones with money from student loans (Ie purchasing with debt) and we managed to save over $10,000 in 2 years to pay for our wedding almost completely on our own. I think I asked my mom for a deposit for a band and my in-laws paid for part of the reception, but nobody had to borrow from somebody else in order to make it happen...either way, if only I had that money now, you know?

But that's how the cookie crumbles. We make due and we live comfortably and can support 2 cats, even giving them expensive wet food on occasion as treats.

also, to those of you on your own and grocery shopping: your grocery bills aren't high because of veggies and fruits. they're high because of the useless crap you buy in the frozen food isle and the other isles in the middle of the store. true fact: you can purchase all you need, for very little money, along the perimeter of the grocery store. Go ahead and look. veggies, dairy, meats, are all along the walls of the store, and everything in the isles themselves are unneeded junk.

I went grocery shopping today. It's amazing what I can buy for less than 40 bucks. I forgot my coupons again, but grabbing the sale/reduced items works nicely. Also, shoppers cards? Use them. I have ingredients for my own chili tomorrow, and that was roughly three bucks for all the ingredients. I already have the seasoning.

I'll admit that I load up on frozen dinners, but having those and a salad at lunch keep me from eating the rest of the afternoon. Meat is probably the most expensive thing I buy, but I generally wait until it's on sale. I haven't bought chicken in a long time. May do that soon, since I have something I can fix it with. If I do head down the aisles, it's to buy other ingredients to go with dinner, like canned veggies.

Of course, the expensive, frivolous stuff I bought today was when I went to the liquor store, but it's nearing the end of the trimester and I've had a rough one. I'm saving what I bought.

I just came in from getting the mail. I haven't bothered going to the mail box since Tuesday..its been a busy week at work. THe whole area is....frosty, everything looks like it has a coating of frosty sugar on it. on the walk over to my mail box, 3-4 hundred feet or so from the top of my driveway . Every step crunches, the fine ice crystals shatter when you turn the key & open the door to the box. But it is damn cold, minus 12 & the air is as still as it can be.
I for one, wish the people who claim global warming is raising the temp. we're right & it was happening NOW...but the truth around here is same old, same old , frosty freezing cold January !

hmmm double post...but they are a couple hours apart.
I have just checked my e-mail.
I have a g-bot message from Newgrounds saying that someone has tried multiple failed login attempts. And that the person has been locked out.
& gives me a link to log in if it was me.

Well it wasn't me, & everytime I've been here lately I've had no problem logging in. First time every time.
B U T
I would like to hear from some of you here...Should I change my password ?

I've recently been told of something similar happening to other accounts I have elsewhere, multiple login attempts & they advised me to strengthen my password .
My e-bay account even has a rating on how secure your password is in their opinion.

So although Newgrounds didn't recommend that I go for a more difficult password , should I do it anyway ???
Especially like some input from the more experienced members & Mods

Thanks in advance guy's.

Trust me. Someone's trying to hack you. Eventually they're going to try to use hacked database info from Yahoo or Google, and if your using one of those mail accounts for your email on this account, they'll get you. There are probably database hacks for most major emails, so good luck keeping ahead.

What youre describing is pretty much how my account got hacked, and I just didn't have spare time between bands to change my passwords until it was too late.

Also, when I say "change password" I mean your email passwords TOO.

Someone attempted to hack my account.
I'm wondering... how are people picked. Is it totally by random, or is their some finesse in the art.

anyways...
pick a password that has both numbers and letters. and don't make it obvious. "password" "123456789" "987654321" and etc.

Although, I may change my passwords in my other accounts now.

Sometimes, I feel like I wish I could have all my posts erased because people do actually go back and try to read your posts and try to figure out your password like that. My password, in anyway, cannot be construed from my posts. Nonetheless... the desire is still there.

Thanks Funk...I already changed my e-mail password & I did combination passwords for my e-bay & paypal accounts.
I was told that combination passwords were the best, seeing as that's pretty much what I'm now using everywhere...how difficult are they really to break ?
WHy would anyone want to hack my account ???
I'm not a mod I'm just a peon like so many others here !

I don't know anything really about this stuff. I am glad NG has put some safeguards/informing system in.

Maybe Rydia...you haven't pissed people off

;;;

I've got a younger brother who's into computers, He long ago gave me some hints for passwords & I followed them, more or less. I certainly have never mentioned them anywhere except in the box provided by the site so you can log in.
But this is the first time I've ever had this problem on NG, & I remember some others here having been hacked...or whatever its called when someone attempts to log into someone else's account .

Seems pretty fucked up especially if all they do is lock out an IP , I know my brother has set himself up with a floating IP address's ,I don't know exactly what he's done I do know his number changes all the time.

What i find confusing is that hacking my account gets you nothing...It's not like hacking a Mod's account where you could ban people etc.

One thing I am considering doing is changing the email account here to an account that's more secure. I haven't necessarily pissed anyone off, but there is someone who might want to do something to spite me.

On an unrelated note, I screwed up my neck this weekend and it's been triggering migraines, which I never have. If I can just fix my neck, they'll stop.

Fallout, fallout, fallout. And I'm going to try to figure out the last fight in Dragon age origions. What's sticking me is that there's these weird glitch i've ever seen before here that delays your reactions to things. Like if you hit someone it takes a few secodns to regester. You drink a health potion, it takes a few seconds to regester. If the game just plain slowed down yeah that would suck but I could read the situations better.
Also, to anyone who isen't played but wants to, have someone on your team learn traps. Somehow it relates to ballista repair.

Work on my mother's birthday necklace while watching movies tonight. Not really in the mood to play City of Heroes right now, because somebody alerted the devs about the mission I was farming and they took it down, which is a bummer.

I'm also going to go and scrounge around for some ambesol. I was playing with my parent's pit-bull about 2 hours ago when she jumped up and hit me square in the mouth, hard enough to rattle one of my eye teeth.

just because you have multiple failed attempts at your NG account does not mean that somebody got your email address. unless your password is easily figured out the email can be safely disregarded. However, some other tips for safety include making sure secondary email accounts you may have listed as password recovery options in your primary email is secure or deleted. Gmail allows you to set up a text message recovery option so that if somebody tries and fails at cracking into your gmail, you get sent a text message with a recovery code. if it wasn't you, you can safely ignore the text message, sometimes if they think they got into an old email of yours that might have been linked to your main email, they'll do a password recovery attempt which they hope will be sent directly to that old email, and then they can get intoyour email and do a password recovery of your NG account.

long story short: be worried about password recovery emails, not the "somebody failed X number of times and were locked out"
