Oh, it was your other car that did it. I must have missed that.
At least I fully appreciate power steering now.
Oh yeah. I remember a few years ago on this same car the alternator went out on us, we had to cut the belt itself and drive the car sans power steering a few blocks away (happened in town) to a local mechanic who could work on it for us. That was a fun mile down the road.
Also; would it be in poor taste to make a macro in City of Heroes/Villains so that when I hit my self destruction power I yell "ALLAH AKBAR!"?
Just so everybody gets what I mean, this is the self destruction power in action.

I played through ToAU, was one of the best Red Mages ever to grace the Odin server (seriously, I played with a grand total of 4 good Red Mages in my entire 5-6 year stint in FFXI and me and my roommate were two of them) and got bored before Wings hit. I now wait for XIV and Old Republic...
And I did get some dirty looks from that macro... especially for the /shout since that cna be heard throughout whichever zone you're in.

Okay, I've got what I would think are two very reasonable questions with regards to the House tv show.
(1) In the episode where detective/cop conked his head on the desk and started spouting gibberish (not sure the name of the episode), why didn't they just hand him a pen and a piece of paper and ask him to write out what it was he was trying to communicate?
(2) The episode they're playing right now on the U.S.A. Network (Euphoria Part 1), house take a pistol and fires it into a corpse in the morgue, then wheels the whole thing into the MRI machine to test and see wether or not the bullet is magnetic, destroying the machine. Couldn't he have just taken a simple refrigerator magnet and tested the bullet on it's own?

It is 22 degrees right now with the wind chill factor, it feels like 11 degrees.

It was minus 7 degrees this morning when I went over to check the mail. I was in shorts.
My mail box is about a hundred meters from my driveway. Minus seven's not really cold in still air.
You get used to it. Unless I'm going to be outside not moving much, I usually wear shorts, the amount of 'warmth' that you get by having a pair of jeans on is slim to none. But having a hat on makes a huge difference.
You also should remember to dress in layers. So many people who come up here from warmer climes, will have a big ole pair of mukluks on their feet, a snow goose winter coat that makes them a foot wider... this works fine if your not doing anything. But as soon as you start being active you start to sweat, its when you stop being active , then you start to freeze.
When its really cold minus 20's & below especially with a high windchill , you need multiple layers, that way if you become active ,like walking up the hill pulling your tobogan/sleigh you can open up some outer layers , remove your hood or hat & allow that extra body heat to dissipate, when you reach the top, you bundle back up for your ride down ;)
I'm freezing. I don't know how all yall who deal with this daily can do it. I want some cocoa.
;;;
I use booze.
Nothing like increasing the freezing temperature of a liquid, by adding some antifreeze (aka alcohol) to get you through it...but seriously, alcohol is dangerous in cold weather.
Layer up Seven. make sure you have your head & hands covered, even putting an undershirt, overshirt, sweater & outer layer that's windproof will make a huge difference, much better than say just a t shirt & winter jacket.
I don't suppose you have a woodstove ?
I love mine...its my favorite winter sport...putting logs in it & feeling the heat from the burn :)
I'm on my way to town in a few minutes...the temp's now at minus 2 so I'll just wear a sweater over my t shirt, an insulated windbreaker ,hat gloves & shorts ;) with sneakers & heavy socks...& I'll be fine.

The cold isn't so bad, seven. Once you get acclimated you're good to go. (That and heating systems, utility bills be damned)
I actually have been keeping my heat very low this winter and I haven't been uncomfortable. My thermostat sits between 58 and 62, whereas last winter we kept it between 68 and 70. Now, if I put it above 65, I get uncomfortably warm.
I was watching CNN today and they had a guy giving a report from outside in St. Lewis, where it was like 20 degrees out and the meteorologist was like "if we let him keep talking he'd eventually be unable to talk right" and I'm sitting here thinking that although he was outside for what? 5 minutes for a newscast, I can be outside instructing for 2 hours in much colder weather and I don't find I lose the use of my lips all too often. I'm sure there's science about your muscles having less blood flow to keep the core warm but I don't think it'd become a problem unless you're standing still with nothing to keep your face warm in a bit colder weather.

I think that's the main problem most folks in our part of the country have with cold weather; the wind. It was 20 here yesterday and I was out in it when I was running errands, but it really didn't bother me that much because there wasn't much of a windchill.
Right now? It's 16 degrees with a windchill of 4 degrees, and it's snowing sideways (like just a couple degrees above horizontal), much worse than what Seven is going through right now. I just called out at work, since I live out in the boonies where the county DOESN'T come through and salt the roads, it's not worth it to me at all to even go to work today with the roads being frozen over the way they've been for the last day or so.
You get used to it. Unless I'm going to be outside not moving much, I usually wear shorts, the amount of 'warmth' that you get by having a pair of jeans on is slim to none. But having a hat on makes a huge difference.
You sound a bit like me during this kind of weather. My first job back in my teens was working the frozen foods department at a local grocery store, and I LOVED IT. Nothing like stepping into a frozen foods cooler at a brisk 0 degrees Fahrenheit when you've only got khaki's and a polo shirt on, or working the dairy cooler right above freezing in the same kind of attire.
The dairy cooler was a bit rougher to work, though, because the cooling system ran the entire you were in it as apposed to just switching off when you opened the door, so the frozen food cooler would warm up a bit while you worked in there. Although I do remember this one store I worked at where the frozen foods cooler didn't cut off when you went into it, THAT was sheer hell to work in.
You also should remember to dress in layers.
Read; thermal underwear, under armor, or failing that... getting VERY creative when it comes to the way you layer your clothing. I've worn jogging pants underneath jeans if I'm outside working in this weather (or inside if I'm just cold), two pairs of socks, an extra t-shirt on underneath the one I'm wearing, or the ever favorable grunge standard... FLANNEL.
I use booze.
Peppermint Schnapps + Hot Coco = delicious beverage, so I'm told.
They're opening a liquor store in town Monday. I'm on countdown.
I don't suppose you have a woodstove ?
I don't think wood-stoves aren't that prevalent in the U.S. as they are in Canada, I'm afraid. They exist, but the majority of heaters and the like that are sold where I work are either propane, kerosene, or plug-in electric space heaters.
I love mine...its my favorite winter sport...putting logs in it & feeling the heat from the burn :)
I have fond memories as a little kid of helping my dad stack firewood in the little pot-belly wood stove we kept in our house at the time.
Now? It's all central heat and air.

It's true, Seven: you just get used to it. I will admit that since I lived in a warmer climate last year I got a bit spoiled, but it doesn't faze me. We're in the middle of another snowstorm right now. The mayor declared a snow emergency, which usually doesn't happen here. I do wish PA would adopt Ohio's system of snow emergencies though. This one is vague.
We have had a grand total of 30 inches of snow since last Saturday here. Keep in mind that 25 were from last Saturday and this past Sunday. Other areas have had more. One place near where Gum on Shoe used to live had 50. While we are used to snow, this much at one time is unusual.
It is a good weekend to sit inside and do the crapload of work I need to though.

The ethics shown by Foreman and House in this episode were appalling - more than usual. Shooting a corpse in the head was shocking, but served no real purpose (to prove what would have been easier to test by just placing a bullet fragment in a sealed box in the MRI - it worked for Mythbusters.)
I knew it!

I find it astonishing that no one seems to be making replica Judge Dredd armor. No one!
I've already maxed out my costumes for 2010, but for 2011 I think I want to do a Stallone movie theme. Judge Hershey from Judge Dredd, complete with shoulder armor and Lawgiver, and Lt. Huxley from Demolition Man, complete with shock baton.
So far no luck finding armor replicas. Helmets are out there, though they're comic book style and not film style, but they should still work. Belt buckles and Lawgiver kits are also golden, plenty of places to get those. Might have trouble with the badge, as everyone seems to make Dredd badges and none for other characters, but the ARMOR is what I'm worried about.

I loved that movie...my lover thinks it's too campy.
The clan of cannibals was a highlite
The armor was a bit over the top though .
Proteas, for the record I do have centralized heating, I have a hightech boiler, that heats my home & my hotwater, so I don't have to have two seperate systems. The woodstove is for when we're home & when were using it, the 'furnace' almost never comes on, its set for 70 degrees & when the woodstoves going, its usually 77 to 82 degrees, we can't turn it down low enough to get the temp. below 77.
Not complaining, wood is cheap about a third the cost of oil.

Well, it's based on a comic book, so it's kind of allowed to be over the top I guess. Not like it would really protect you at all, since it's just shoulder armor (and a codpiece for Dredd).

I went & looked at lawgiver replica's...there are quite a few, I was surprised.
From a cheesey one offered in Britian...or at least the prices quoted were in pounds, for 4.25 pounds. It was similar to a cheap squirt gun & looked it. To cast solid resin one for $67.50 which is a kit.
Then i found some nice ones...one a Lawgiver MK2 by airsoft with a 25 round mag, working slide action & led lights(via a small micro switch under trigger guard) for $375.00

You do what you've got to do, man. I think we had the same configuration in our house where he had the pot-belly stove, though (stove/fireplace in the winter for heat, central in the summer for air). Do you use an maul or a log splitter to cut lumber with?

I looked into what More was talking about, airsoft replicas of the lawgiver exist, but you're going to pay a pretty penny for them. I think the one in that video goes for anywehre from $300 to $400.
I've never been much into airsoft, but I've been parusing RedWolf Airsoft and Cheaperthandirt.com for them today, but I'd love to have this little gem, or maybe this.

This is the one I was looking at. They had a "hero" Lawgiver from the film (i.e. actually carried by Stallone) that had genuine lights in it and was controlled by remote, but someone bought it before I could see how many thousands of dollars it was. I'm not really interested in an airsoft one - you can't carry them at cons unless they're peace-bonded. A solid kit one is fine for me.
Your hobby can get expensive fast Skunky .
Cheapest costume to date was Poison Ivy - $30 for the basic components, $15 for the thong I wore underneath it to prevent wardrobe malfunctions, and $8 for the silicone nipple shields I bought for the same purpose. Probably the most costly in terms of labor hours, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 total hours. Most expensive costume to date is the Sinestro Corps I'm doing for this year - $300 for the basic suit, and then I have to buy boots and figure out my ring. The ones we have are far too large for me to wear, unfortunately. Catwoman was about $250 for the suit, boots, goggles, belt, and whip. I want a better whip, but genuine braided bullwhips are pretty expensive - as much as the whole rest of the costume, or more.
Steve's biker scout armor cost him roughly a thousand dollars.
It's definitely not the cheapest hobby out there. You've got the cost of the costumes and accessories themselves and then the price of hotel rooms and badges for conventions (since there really aren't many more places to show off your work), and travel expenses to get there in the first place. That was the first thing to go when we decided to buy a house last year and cut costs, believe me.

That's waaaaayyyy over up there. And they experienced the worst damage.
I'm pretty sure 3 in a row is uncommon in the same general vicinity... 2 could be common because of aftershocks, but they tend to be less powerful. With the Big One in 89, I remember the aftershocks were strong enough to wake me in the morning.
I mean, there has to be an earthquake every day or every other... somewhere in the world. I mean, there's a solar eclipse everyday in some part of the world...
We're due for another Big One sometime with in 30 years, I heard.

I've heard Cosplay could be very expensive, but it doesn't need to get out of hand if you're highly imaginative.
Only Cosplay I ever done... I went to a Harry Potter Party for the Order of Phoenix. At that time, I had very long hair... and since my hair is black as you get, and I dyed it to make it the sorta black that has blue sheen...
I parted it in half and greased it up with V08.
I went as Snape...
I know I got a picture somewhere..........

Yiffing only applies to furries. Nyah.
I don't get too pedantic about the costume/cosplay thing, but technically you're only cosplaying if you are role-playing as the character. When I dress up as Catwoman I don't pretend to be Catwoman.
