I'm begging Hollywood to have a new idea...it's not hard people. Far as I know Jennifer's Body was a new idea (and not a bad movie, though I think the advertising and the general feeling that will instill of "Megan Fox acts all bitchy and slutty and you MAYBE see some nudity!" Which no, no you don't, will turn people off), but there in be a rarity. Certainly you can't seem to find much in the way of new ideas in summer blockbuster fair...oh well. I guess as long as people seem to have this mistaken idea that material isn't justified as "cool" or "worthy" until somebody makes a movie of it, we'll keep seeing this.
Also, somebody needs to start systematically beating these people I just mentioned.

I got to speak with Diablo Cody (sorta) during the spring when she came to San Jose--
She is intense bitchy ala Jennifer's Body.
She's got an intense lesbian vibe too (not so much as lesbian... well... let's just say she's got this power thing going on.) My friend Sasha got to know her better.
Megan Fox's character... is essentially Diablo Cody.

It works for her...
Very cute, and very strippery (which she used to be.)
I think she someone's who will stay in writing world. I had my misgivings when she won for Juno. So much of that movie had been re-written and improvised, I didn't think it fair that she could be credited as a writer (be that it was her original idea, but whatever.)
What I really hope she'll do is make movies.
I'm reading a graphic novel called Rent Girl, and I see her making a damn good adaption of it.
BTW--
Do you know that there's another Ghost Wold movie coming out, folks?

I never saw the first one. The ads made it look like something that was desperatly trying to keep the 90's alive.

Oh no, you know what they're going to do? they're going to get some pale 20 year old (or someone young enough to play 20) with a completly tacked on love interest, give him a sword straight out of a manga reproduction and probably a baseline comment on society.
Watch them turn it into a royal clusterfuck and cast Johny Depp. He's young enough to pull off that 20 to 30-ish age that Duncan McCloud would have been in when he became immortal, can EASILY pull off the dirty grit needed to look 400 years old, and hey... he's really fucking popular right now.

I sense a disturbance in the force.
Somewhere, staff is having a stroke at the idea of Johny Depp the Highlander.

I'm a fan of the guy but really hesitant to think of a name actor in this role. You want someone who you can look at and see the character before the actor. Plus with someone like him you know they'd stick in a joke about how he ages so well he probably is the Highlander.
It's comperable to Keanu Reeves in a way. No matter how many time Keanu shows us he can act it's still way too easy for lazy critics to be like "whoa"

one would think that if that's all they want to get out of him being in the movie they'd cast him as some insignificant immortal who's super old, but not a main plot point

You're crediting the people remaking Highlander with good decision making skills?

In the future...
they're gonna remake the remakes.
and digitally put a better child actor for Anakin Skywalker...
*sigh*
And Nightmare on Elm Street got remade.
Although, I'm optimistic.
Although, there is good news.
There maybe an AIDS vaccine looming in the future.
but the natural pessimist in me says, well... it's several years too late.
BTW-- I've never seen Highlander, although I got to see the TV series back in the 90s once in a while.

I don't remember that show, but I remember thinking that actor was very handsome back in the 90s...
I'm going to rent Highlander and then probably get the first season of the tv series.

They did a tv movie a little while ago. Highlander: The Source. When it was on we ripped on it pretty heavy in this very topic. But in all fairness the guy does still look the part.
The show was great. I liked how they really got into how complex being immortal could be. There was one episode I loved about a couple that renewed their wedding vows once a century. That plotpoint itself was predictable but it was brillaint how their guests would come and just catch up after a century of life. Would it even be in the human capacity to have memories that far back?

Yeah, I said it. How exactly someone that dark skinned passes for Scottish is beyond me.

Well, they're immortal, and the laws governing the function and capabilities of the human body are thrown out the window for that simple fact.

I'm on countdown right now. I work one 8 hour shift today, and then I'm on vacation for the next week. YAY!!!!
Also; I wove about an inch of chainmail last night, inverted round pattern. Weaving was actually fairly easy, the difficult thing was getting it started. I would up having to use a cheater by placing the whole piece on an ink pen and working around it. Pics to follow later.

Remember, in the movie they had an ACTUAL SCOTSMAN playing a spaniard and a french dude playing a scotsman... casting to nationality has never been part of the Highlander universe. :P

Finally getting to listen to MY tunes while driving? PRICELESS.
And as promised, a photo of my chainmail work thus far. The most difficult thing I've found thus far is getting started, one wrong move and you wind up with a jumble of chain in your hand that can't be discerned for anything. I had to restart this twice last night before I got it going, then it was fairly easy.

I had a similar problem the first time I tried to knit in the round. Wound up making something that was more like a Mobius strip than a hat.
I had some friends who were heavily involved in SCA and did a lot of leather and metalcraft, and the guy who did most of the metal work eventually got so good he could work chain mail without looking at it. You'll get there!
He followed me home, can I keep him?

Somebody needs to explain to me the Carnagie Hall joke...
I've heard it many times in life (read it in Stephen King's On Writing) and seen it... and still. I don't get the punchline or understand the context.

Carnegie Hall is the most respected music venue in New York City.
The joke goes:
Man walks up to a cabbie, says "Hey cabbie, how do I get to Carnegie Hall?"
Cabbie says "Practice ya fuckin' dink."
As in, the only way to PERFORM in Carnegie hall is to practice. You can't just go up there and ask.
It R a "PUNNE" or play upone wordf.

You view your life as a dark and dank bog, through which you are forced to do research on insignificant things, and are saddled with an overbearing intellect which won't allow you to do otherwise?

Without meaning to be offensive Elfer, trying to read that had my eyes drifting...left, no he has no photo....right....nothing boring grey sides, usual NG page look....see words...nothing interesting, making no sense.
Sorry ,but I for one didn't find it interesting enough to finish, I literally couldn't get through it because my mind wandered away,( I just tried to read it again, same thing) my fault one might say, nothing interesting there , is what my brain counter argues !
