Prot, the recipe turned out great! They tasted just right, but the texture was different. Next time I'll try laying the batter out on a flat pan and folding it over, then cutting triangles, which seems to be what they do at the restaurant. This is the recipe I followed. Recipes that involve yeast kind of intimidate me, but it wound up being REALLY easy.

In other news, I was starting to lose hope about my potted pumpkin seeds. It's been rather cool since I planted them, and we're on the shady side of our building. I told my husband that if they hadn't sprouted by Saturday I would dump them and start over - seeds that don't germinate will eventually rot in the ground. They must have realized they were in trouble, because when I got home this afternoon there were tiny baby pumpkin leaves!

There were also some little bitty mushrooms in the pots, but that's probably just a result of all the rain lately and our proximity to a fungus-laden forest. I pinched out the mushrooms and cleared away some leaves and such that had fallen in.

I'm so excited for my baby squash vines! There are ten pots of pumpkin seeds and four pots of mixed small decorative gourds, and it looks like about half of the pots have sprouts coming up so far. It only takes a couple of vines to have three or four pumpkins, so I'm hopeful!

Correction: we went outside and poked around in the pots a bit. 8/10 of the Big Max giant-breed pumpkin seeds have sprouted, and 4/4 of the decorative gourds. Some of them needed a little help pushing through to so they were visible.

SWEET! I'll have to get some stuff to make them when I'm out tomorrow.

I'm not much of a gardener, so I can't comment on the budding squash except to say congrats. :-D

On the subject of gardening: My little neice has started in that feild. She got these little cups in school that are supposed to have the starters for seeds and she's just proud as all get out of them. Her face lights up like Christmas when someone talks about the pumpkins she's growing.

In the fall... when you see rose hips.
Tell her to take a few of them. Open them up.

And tell her put them in a baggie with a wet towel... and put it in the refrigerator (not freezer) for 3 to 4 months.

Then plant them.
The rose seeds will sprout...

Of all seeds, I feel this is the most satisfying to grow...
And the rose will be one of a kind too.

I know, it's addictive.

I need to clear out some space here and make myself a workbench, so I can start working on small projects on a regular basis. I'd LOVE to make the Hellboy Good Samaritan Pistol.

I could probably make it a break action, unlike his.

Does anybody know where you can buy unflavored gelatin? I want to make a 2 liter of ballistics gel, so I can have the closest thing to a "human analogue" (as they say on Mythbusters) to test my WW2 katana on when I get it done. But... I've looked for this stuff in the grocery store, and I'm not finding it like I thought I would.

I gave the two little girls next door one of the big pots. I picked one that already has nice fat leaves on it. I figure it's good karma, and they'll have a great time with it even if it doesn't do a whole lot - I told them to transplant it into a nice big pot (they're renting like us, and don't have a lot of space to plant it in the ground) when it gets bigger and hopefully it will be able to set fruit, even if they stay small.

Besides, all eight of them would be pretty excessive. We really only need three or four pumpkins for our Halloween stuff. The ones I don't have room for are just going to end up getting mulched, so why waste them?

When I was their age my mom had a huge garden, with flowers, vegetables, and herbs. I got to help her dig the holes, weed (hey, it seemed like a privilege at the time), prune, cut flowers, pick fruit and veggies, and all that stuff, starting as soon as I was big enough to help. Years later I still love growing things. I also have a strange fascination with earthworms, but that's another matter.

Anyway, I hope giving them that little sprout will give them a bit of the joy and wonder I had as a kid in my mom's veggie beds.

"A trip to the dump?" I don't know.

I am NOT saying anything bad about New Jersey, however, I have noticed (through friends from that area) and referrences in the media, that New Jersey isn't exactly looked upon with great admiration.

I thought about making a thread about this, but there's not much to say about it, so it would be kind of pointless, but I'll just leave this here for a laugh:

Serbian Priest Removed After Video Shows Him Beating Patients With Shovel

BELGRADE, Serbia - The Serbian priest running a church-backed drug rehab center was removed by his bishop Wednesday following the publication of videos showing him and members of his staff beating patients with a shovel.

The vast amount of butthurt in that single page proves that we are doing our jobs.

I like that one graphic though, that was well done and probably time well spent while on a ban for saying "grab her cock" in the fifth thread in a row.

I'm color blind, so similar colors like the mod's gold color sort of blend with the light user colors... the only one I can distinguish readily is the dark colors.

Oi-- and being color blind doesn't mean I can't recognize color.
Just need to clarify this. I don't see things in black and white.

It means my entire color spectrum is shifted so a lot of similar colors are just the same to my eye... So, I don't recognize a mod by the color. I have to match things up with the mod list.

Playing games for me was just horrible for me at times... especially games where you need to look at colors and match them up.

I remember I couldn't finish Phantasmagoria: Puzzle of Flesh because the last challenge was to match colored wires with each other.

After a gazillion times of literally doing it blindly, and not being able to find somebody to help me... I stopped.
