The origin. I mean yeah that's a lot but the fact that that source means he has to then sift throught it to find acceptable material is all about the origin.

Blood tests freak me the hell out. I never liked getting them. Unfortunately, if you want to detect something, those are the way to go. The porn industry quit using the mouth tests for a reason.

One of my friends used to be an EMT. He had to get them every year. One, he was required to have an HIV test every year. Two, when he was born, he needed a double transfusion, and this was back when they were still reusing needles.

I get my HIV/AIDS blood work done every 3 to 6 months.
I don't mind the blood work.

It's the oral that gets me soooo scared. Last time, I cried... I wasn't so sure, but waiting 20 minutes is much more worse than waiting 2 weeks for blood results.

I'll never do the oral exam unless that's my only option.

Okay... 950 flechettes to a pound. So that's a 1 inch nail, weighing approximately .47 grams a piece, right?

My ex-special forces friend said you could make your own using finishing nails or sewing needles, I'm just trying to figure out approximately how this would work. Scholarly purposes only, I've got hollow point deer slugs to tear up potential intruders with, remember?

I know this is going to sound cowardly or cheap but they test you when you give blood and that's how I know I'm good. It says right in the paperwork that they test your blood for h.i.v along with a list of other scary stuff and that one of the beinifits of participation is if you come up positive they will tell you.
Of course if you already know then it's all good but it can be a useful way to find out. This is the American Red Cross. They do not fuck around with this stuff.

Side note: I actually got a call from the red cross looking for more blood today. Apparently I've given 3 gallons thus far.

as far as I knew, I thought having anal sex, homosexual relationships, unprotected sex, many partners, etc, drug use, living in certain parts of the world, traveling out of country recently, sort of disqualified you from giving blood. I don't think it's all that easy to show up and give blood if you are worried that you may be HIV positive, since you probably have had some relationships where you didn't practice safe habits...which would come up during the interview.

They can and do. But the thing is you don't have to have lived a dangerous life to catch something and no protection is absolute. So having been tested beats the hell out of figuring you're safe.

My maternal grandfather actually contracted Hepatitis C in the mid-80s during a surgery that required several unit of whole blood. NIH actually considered him kind of a poster child - he lived 20 years with it, despite being over 55 when he contracted it and allergic to one of the two main drugs they alternate between.

As far as anal sex, they only bar of the gay type... otherwise, there would be a lot of women who could not give blood.

Side note:
a gay guy, in a monogamous relationship, uses protection, tests frequently.... they're bared from donation forever.

Where as a straight guy who cheats and does not use protection and doesn't know his status... he's banned for 3 to 6 months if he uses cleans up.

I would love to give blood again if they allowed me...

Just trying to make light of the situation, I didn't see the sig or anything. What was your referral to? As long as it wasn't like "come to this porno site" or something else NSFW, or a virus site or some such, I can't see why it would be deleted.

You know, I had similar experience. Once when I had been coughing up yellow and bloody snot for a few weeks straight, my family decided it was time to take me to a healthcare central. There, it was established that, indeed, I had to give a bloodsample, for obvious reasons. While the nurse asked me if I was afraid of needles, she tied my left arm up and desinfected the patch of skin where my pulsating veins now were clearly visible. I answered her that, no, real men do not fear anything. I was a bit chauvinistic back in those days, so the answer came naturally to me. As the nurse proceeded to inject the needle, I decided to watch the procedure unfold, partially for scholarly reasons, and partially due to my own curiosity. I was aware that I would lose a considerable amount of red fluids, since the nurse had no less than five vials neatly lined up on a nearby table, but I was anyhow rather content with the situation. The first four vials filled up in no time, but when the fourth vial was just about to fill up completely, something happened. I might have twitched to make the needle inserted in my left arm disaligne, or the needle itself might have been flawed, but no matter the cause, what happened next was rather gruesome. A red fountain of bodily liquids literally erupted from my left arm, tagging my surroundings with a vibrant, vivid, and chic red finish. Due to the nature of hospitals and their interior, the otherwise so white and sterile room made an excellent canvas, and it received much needed color in liberal amounts. "How unexpected" I said. "To think that a little red was just what this room needed. It is so much more cheerier and lively now."
The nurse smiled, extracted the flawed needle from my left arm, and subdued the fountain of human crimson paint from my arm with a piece of cotton and some of that hospital duct tape.
The fifth vial had to be filled up with blood from my right arm, but this time, everything went well. No red fountains, and no red paint. But this was fine with me, the room looked good as things were, more red would have been a tad overkill.

Thinking back like this makes me wonder if I should become a painter or an interior designer instead of some old, dusty journalist. As a matter of fact, the more I think about it, the more bloody fantastic the idea sounds.

Darling, you got to get stronger... if you're going to the armed forces, it's about taking a shot on the spot. When I was a kid, I remember hearing stories of soldiers needing to jam a needle straight through the hip incase of a chemical attack-- that was during the Persian Gulf...

I think there's a scene like that in Jarhead... they jab a needle ontop of their thighs. Just like... *STAB* They didn't even remove pants.

Although, I may have confused that scene from the movie with the book. The book had more details...

Is it wrong that I laughed my ass off at this? ;-D

A+ FTW!!! Less chance of me dying if I need blood at the hospital.

Also; I think I've got the reasons for my router trouble nailed down. I've got it to one of two things; the first one being that -- for SOME insane reason -- my computer and my mother's laptop were setup with multiple networks. Don't know why, I discovered that there were 4 individual networks on my comp, and after I got inexplicably disconnected just a few minutes ago I merged them all into one and let the computer do it's magic, and here I am (but then again, I'm plugged directly into the modem at this moment).

A good friend of mine at work advised to to find out WHAT frequency the router operates at, and see if I could change it to a different channel/frequency. The reason being that most cordless phones operate at 2.4 Ghz, the same frequency that most routers do. Pickup the phone to call someone, and the you'll get booted off. Now I've got to figure out just where to look for said switching option... because that's the only logical explanation left on the table right now, short of me blowing 12 gauge buckshot into the damn things and saying "fuckit."

And now for something no one has seen in quite some time; an obligatory Canada joke.

Mostly I'm just worrying about whether I'll get any assistantships, FAFSA help, or anything when I go back to school. I interviewed for a stipend job at school and the guy misunderstood and thought I didn't want it. How did THAT happen?

Yeah, that didn't work either. I'm starting to think there really IS a problem with the modem, especially in light of all these thunderstorms we've been having as of late.

So that's $90 on a new router I didn't need, now I've got to price a new fucking cable modem... YAY!!!
