By spicy food... you mean like Indian Cuisine?
Because a lot of Mexican food isn't so much spicy than hot.
There's only a few flavors that's repeats itself in the cuisine, whereas Indian food has the curry, and the corrindar, and the other flavors.
Mexican food is basically variations of corn, beans, and tomatoes. And sometimes chili peppers.
Not all Mexican people like spicy food... it's a regional thing. Border towns, and the people in the middle region of Mexico like chili peppers. Whereas people who live in more damp areas like near lakes... they eat less of it, and don't have as many recipes including chili.
For me,
I eat chili because it's delicious. I personally enjoy mild stuff, although I can do the hotter stuff.
But here's the thing... the hotter stuff usually tastes like crap. And people usually prefer the hotter stuff to show off their tolerance/masculinity/dick size... which makes no sense for me.
Eating is an enjoyable act, so why make it painful?

Oh, come on... you don't find that scene where Lampwick's hand turning into a hoof not any bit curious? I remember rewinding back and forward and watching that in slow motion...

I ended up getting into a lot of Disney and other kids' movies that I was "too old" for because I have three younger sisters, and even if I wouldn't have gone to see them on my own, we went as a family.
He followed me home, can I keep him?

I know it's not disney but we cannot talk about this subject without Land before time.
That movie was startilingly dark and violent in places.
And if you really want dark ta da!
We watched some screwed up things as kids.

Secret of Nimh was pretty hardcore for a kids movies, All Dogs Go To Heaven was a bit more mature in subject matter at least (the hero of the piece is actually a scheming scumbag for like 90% of it).
That's better then now with shit like Pokemon which I think is just teaching kids to be good little consumers and buy all the crap related to it.

I never saw that. Just the whole deal with the guy being a ghost kind of freaked me out.
I just thought of something else that was really heady for kids
An american tail.
Note there's one actor that appears in both this and Nimh. Dom Deliuse apparently liked disturbing the hell out of children.

Somebody made a blog post a while back talking about how violent childrens movies used to be just 15-20 years ago and how sickly comforting and protective they are today. I remember he had a pic at the end of a bloody faced rabbit next to shrek or something.

I've never had Indian food, unfortunately, I've heard tales though about their version of the spicy green chili sauce. My foray into spicey food is mainly limited to the local Mexican and Chinese restaurants. But if you're interested, I've got a rather interesting tale on the subject on my myspace blog.
At 3/10/09 06:57 PM, fli wrote: By spicy food... you mean like Indian Cuisine?
Because a lot of Mexican food isn't so much spicy than hot.
I'm not sure if this is the same everywhere, but in this area, "spicy" and "hot" are interchangeable terms. Judging by Seven's reaction, I think this term may extend to her part of the country as well.
These days I like stuff like Tiger Sauce (easy to find in most chain food stores) and Tobasco Brand Green Pepper Sauce. The Tiger Sauce is a mild sauce with a really sweet flavor, and the Green Pepper Sauce is fairly mild with a good peppery flavor.
-------
I took the machete I've been working on (the $10 deal from Wal-Mart) out in the yard a while ago and chopped on some downed tree limbs to test it's edge retention. Two or three minutes of good solid chopping did dull it significantly, but there's no major dents or dings in the edge. I'm going to increase the angle of the bevel so the edge will be a bit stronger.
But.... I did succesfully manage to scare a neighbor kid while doing this. While I was out in the yard chopping away, this kid on the property next to us was zipping around on a motor bike and saw me working. I didn't see his reaction, but my mother did as she was pulling in the driveway from work. She said it was priceless, that the look on the kid's face conveyed one of fear.
And for a change, I take pride being the resident machete wielding maniac. Let the news get out, I don't care. We've had issues here lately with attempted break-ins on this road, so this works out nicely.

I look back at some of the stuff I watched as a small kid, and I wonder why in the world my parents let me watch it so much. Mary Poppins I can understand, the Little Mermaid, sure... but... All Dogs go to Heaven, Secret of Nihm and Pee Wee's Playhouse?
No wonder people think I'm insane.

Well, shit. It turns out that I messed up something on my grad school application. I thought I took the MAT in 2006, but I took it in 2005 in an entirely different month than I put down. I don't want to be rejected for lying on my application or anything.
Is it a big deal if I got the date wrong? Everything else on the application is correct. I'm gonna try and get the date straightened out tomorrow. What happened is I thought I took it at the end of senior year and my memory was wrong. I didn't even realize I still had the paperwork on me. I just found it.
Shit. I hope I didn't screw anything up. I signed off on everything being complete and correct.

I've been to your area & the food was hot & spicy...but it was FLAVORFUL !
THat's what I like. Hot food ,that has nice flavors.
You go to Hooters as I did once & order their hot wings & all it has for sauce is dried cheyenne peppers in a runny tomato sauce , gives you 1 flavor "dried cheyenne pepper' yuck.
I can't eat curry.
I went into anaphylactic shock in Montreal when I had curry for the first time as a teenager.
I came to ,in a Montreal Hospital, strapped down to a bed, with tubes 'flushing' my stomach. While people spoke in a language I couldn't understand :)
When I was tested in N.S. my skin scratch test showed violent reaction to curry, but no such violent reaction to the different types of main ingredients !?!
So I just stay away from the stuff.
My favorite bar food is nacho's or potato skins & I like the fresh jalapeno's because of the slight burn, but it doesn't overpower the other veggies & cheese.

I've eaten there once, but it was a LOOOOONG time ago, so I can't comment on the quality of the sauce you get in the restaurant. But I've gotten the retail sauce they make (usually kept with all the BBQ and Hot Sauces) and it's pretty good, if a bit greasy.

;;;;
F^(# that !
I was tested, they then sent me to a specialist & was tested 3 times & I can't stand to be itchy inside my own skin.
They figure its got something to do with the way 2 or more ingredients combine. I show a slight reaction to tumerick, a bit more to curry leaves & cummin. but nothing like when they scratch me with just a bit of what is called 'curry'.
My skin blisters as the needle scratches it. You can see it redden almost instantly.
I grabbed a chicken wrap off a tray of them at work about 2 years ago, there was a little curry in the mayo for flavor. When I bit into it I realised it might be curry so I immediately spit it out. I also almost at the same moment hives broke out on my face , then my neck & arms & I started to have problems breathing.
There are so many different ways to make curry, I may not be allergic to them all, but I really am not that interested in it. there's lot's of other food i can eat.
Like I said earlier, I just stay away from it as best I can.
I'm also one of those people who find that lemon grass in anything tastes like it has SOAP in it, but I'm not allergic to it.

I have someone else I can ask for a reference, so I'll try to get ahold of her first. Then I'll call the admissions department, which I needed to do anyway about something else. I called Mom and asked for advice, and she said no, all is not lost, just be honest about why the lady couldn't be a reference. We were both blindsided by her refusal, though.
The other reference is in South Dakota, so I'll just priority mail the sucker when I send it.

Rydia... pull through-- just don't give up.
That was a punk move when that person said no to you for that reference, especially when you're good for it.
Don't worry too much... the worse that could happen is that you'll need to do it again for the next semester. So, don't lose hope...

I recommend Indian food for sometime, just so you can taste the difference. They do have a few dishes that have a bit of a bite, but are fairly easily "treatable". I almost covered my mouth and felt my tongue while reading that blog entry. I know similar foods I've had with a delayed effect, but my overall unpleasant experience with a Mexican dish last time makes the thought worse. I salute you for trying that stuff though. I probably woludn't have.

Yeah, I was going to investigate that once. Then I thought to myself, why would I want to investigate something like that? But yeah, I'd go for your theory.

I'm not sure if I ever watched any truly freaky stuff when I was little. My Mum and Dad keep recalling a time I was frightened by a film/TV adaptation of The Witches by classic children's literature author Roald Dahl. I never saw Watership Down, though clips of it I've seen since would probably have been enough to scare me.
Good luck on your reference crisis RydiaLockheart. I'm not sure how to help what with minimal knowledge of how the stuff works, but I'll be reading your updates.
