I may get to present the paper at an academic conference next February.

I am excited.

Yay for you!!!!!

Do you know which anthology it's going to be in?

Hope you get to present it, that's awesome.

It's called "Ages of Heroes, Eras of Men" and it's being put out by a couple of faculty from Rollins University and a professor from the University of Albany. Not sure who's actually publishing it yet, or if there's any money involved for me.

That's the way of academic publishing, though. A lot of it's for the prestige and to look fancy on a resume, with no actual paycheck. My first publication netted me a whole $25. I could probably make a heck of a lot more money if I stuck to fiction writing.

If I present it, it will be at the 2009 Florida Conference of Historians - the conference where the idea for the anthology was first hatched. My only concern is that I will have already been awarded my master's at that point, and won't be a student anymore, so there's no way to get my school to pay for the trip.

But that's a bridge to cross when I come to it.

He followed me home, can I keep him?

It's finally getting to the point where they are nigh on having Rockband concerts.

For shame, America, for shame.

At the annual Microsoft conference in Vegas this year, they had a Rock Band tournament, and my boyfriend brought home a free X-box 360, so I'm not going to complain.

Score.

I was referring to (too lazy to link you gaiz) that when they release Rockband 2, they are having a competition in which the winning group gets to open for Panic at the Disco.

Seems rather *facepalm*-ish in my opinion. =P

Seriously... who would want to be associated with Panic at the Disco anyway?

Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I am rather fond of them, myself, when I am in the mood for it.

Plus, who would say no to being in front of thousands of screaming fans?

I do, because at that point in time the 500 posts in politics minimum was still a rule for the lounge, and I was scarred as hell that someone was going to ban me for it. Clicky.

Speaking of bans, what ever happened to that ability? Is it only reserved for trolls now, instead of a Poli-shaping tool for intelligent, guided discussion?

I thought the starndard was lower at the time since this one user who must not be named posted there as well, but then again the forum was a cesspool back then so it wasn't surprising but I didn't help either.

I can only ban that which I see (hint hint) and is in clear violation of the rules.

The forum's always been a cesspool, but at that point in time 500 was the minimum post level.

===

My brother's fight didn't happen the other night. Apparently the whole idea was his drinking buddy's, and this particular buddy did not ask the amateur UFC dude if he would be willing to do an exhibition match. The guy got there, took one look at my brother, and said "Unless I'm getting paid for this, I'm not fighting."

Then everyone got totally wasted and played cards most of the night, in celebration of a friend coming back from Iraq. :-)

I want a five string bass so badly right now it's not even funny. They recently came down off the price on the Squier 5 String Jazz Bass, and I'm half tempted to dig myself deeper in debt to buy one... must resist...
