Right now, the computer game I'm playing is Murder on the Orient Express. I took it out from the library. Initially, I put a hold on it, and it was pretty overdue and I thought it would never come back. Well, it did. The CDs need to be cleaned and some asshole tore out half the instruction booklet, but I'm enjoying it. I'm gonna check out the copy of And Then There Were None next.

I like the fact that I can take out games and other software from the library, but a lot of it gets stolen. Last I checked, Fallout 2 was still there, and I was quite surprised.

Yeah, because being from up north, you have an extra layer of fat built up and can tolerate such extremes.

I'm not trying to be insulting or anything, but that's just the truth. I'm a big dude and I can tolerate cold a lot better than most folks around here, but it's wind chill that bugs the shit out fo me, especially after it gets down past freezing.

Well... basically this thing is an oversized coffee maker. I've been studying it to figure out how it does what it does, and basically this is what I've come up with; it boils a quart of water passed through teabags for a superdense concetrate, and then pours it over a volume of 3 quarts of ice (equal to about 2 quarts of water, I think). The ice melts as it goes, and dilutes it perfectly.

I'm either going to have to invest in a few more ice trays, or an ice maker. I can't keep tea in the house since I bought this damn contraption.

They probably heard what he said, the only reason they didn't fire him on the spot was because they weren't in the room when it happened. Management HAS to be in the room for something like that to happen, otherwise they'd just write him up. But they'll be keeping they're eyes on the guy.

Here's where you tell the difference between people like me and guys like that; people who say they'll kick your ass are all bark and no bite. The only way you'll get him to actually throw a punch is to call his bluff and openly challenge him to a fight, in which case it's his pride on the line if he doesn't man up and take a swing.

Whatever you do, don't let him see you sweat. You've already got one over him on the promotion deal, if you can let him see that you're not physically intimidated by him either, it will drive him up the WALL.

Proteas recently stated that he should have become a psychologist, and this got my gears turning. I AM actually going to get a degree in psychology soon, so I was thinking, would anyone here be interested in a quick psychology crash-course? You could use your recently aquired skills to impress AND depress your friends (or foes for that matter, I don´t care), and you might even be able to mend your own mental illnesses!

So. Who is up for a free psychology class?

You can't insult me :)
THere have been studies done & Innu people actually have the ability to warm up extremeties much faster than we can. The layer of fat you speak of is more pronounced in women, even the skinny ones. But i was out shoveling the other night I got my truck stuck & I was in shorts, I had a pair of boots on a winter coat hat & gloves so being in shorts wasn't actually noticable, or at least it wasn't uncomfortable.

Today its above freezing & suppose to rain, tomorrow they're calling for minus 20 again :(

Oh well, I guess I'll load in lots of wood for tomorrow , that way I don't have to go outside !

We had a foot of snow the other night...in about a 10-12 hour period. Main roads didn't shut down.
Mess was cleared up by lunchtime the next morning, we've had freezing rain twice since then, getting hit again last night & expecting snow this afternoon & this evening.... then above freezing & rain on Sunday...then freezing & snow possible on Monday.
That's pretty normal for this time of year...and we're better prepared than you are.
But it really doesn't make it any better a place to live in these types of conditions.

The difference being the money usually spent on salting the roads ahead of forecasted snowfall hasn't been siphoned off to fund an Olympic games nobody wants. Didn't people learn from Hurricane Katrina - siphon off funding, and you soon find why you were spending so much on it when you get bit on the ass?

So D2K, what do you think of getting hit with some real winter weather?

When I find some summer weather to compare it to, as for the past two years autumn has started in June, I'll let you know.

Anyone in Government or Media "yelling" about the 'Global Warming' catastrophic problem lately ?

No, mainly the media are kicking the government in the nuts for siphoning off funding to pay for the Olympics - of course, they're missing the bigger picture that the British Olympics Comission are guilty of fraud, as the proposed budget for staging the games was spent two years ago - and we've got three years to come. So, nobody go within ten feet of the sea or a mountain, because doubtless the RNLI and Mountain Rescue will have their budgets shovelled up next.

Oh yeah... Are 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicles common in the UK ?

Yeah, Chelsea tractors are common. Rav 4 drivers are the worst hit, as they seem to mistake roads and driveways for "all terrain."

What this weather has proved most is the New Beetle (if it's "new" anymore) is a pile of shite, as I saw three of them abandoned next to each other on Tuesday.

I meant the vehicles on the street. My brother & I both own 4x4 drive trucks. Actually most of the pick ups you see around here are 4x4's. My car (a pontiac Wave) is front wheel drive & with studded tires it is impressive how well it tracks in up to 10 to 12 cms of snow & the studs allow for traction even on pure ice survaces.

What this weather has proved most is the New Beetle (if it's "new" anymore) is a pile of shite, as I saw three of them abandoned next to each other on Tuesday.

You don't see many VW 'Bugs' on the roads here in winter. Same with the Mini's you see them when the roads are clear, but they're not good in the thick of it.
But often in my travels back & forth from the city, you see a lot of 4x4 SUV's flipped over & in the ditchesbecause the drivers go to fast for the conditions. Just because you can safely travel on roads that are sheets of ice, covered in deep snow...doesn't mean you can still go 110 kms per hour.
But every year you see them in the ditches flipped over in the meridians etc.

People who drive Chelsea tractors are morons, as Ken rightfully said they are. Who needs a 4 X 4 to commute to London? All they do is pollute and block roads.

7Cs doodle-art

Have I told you how much I love you lately? Cuz I do..

So HIllary Clinton finds out she's pregnant, and she is PISSED. Livid, she rings up Bill and starts cursing him out, "Do you know what this'll do to my career! It's over, and ITS ALL YOUR FAULT."

After a solid half-hour of verbal abuse and admonishment, Hillary pauses for a moment and inquires, "Well, Bill, do you have anything to say for yourself?!"

Very softly, his reply, "..who is this?"

We gladly feast upon those who would subdue us.

so, I spent all day in Richmond yesterday watching this Prostart competition (think high school iron chef), because I've spent the past 4 weeks helping my Chef's students train.
It ended up paying of, as they got 2nd out of the state(which surprised the hell out of us).

When we found out the scores, we(myself and the teacher) were pissed; the team lost 1st by only 1 point. Turns out they lost cause some judge took 3 points off, because their dessert was named sorbet instead of sherbet.

So, due to a technicality, they missed out on the chance to go to San Diego and compete. That sucks.

In happier news, I found out I got $8,000 in renewable scholarships from the college I hope to go to, and i didn't do shit to earn it.

you know what I don't understand, what dumbass Ford CEO found it a good idea to make the econoline vans after 1995 NOT have an option for 4x4. you have a vehicle on the same chassis as their full size truck and SUVs (F-150 and Expedition) which all have the option for 4 wheel drive yet, my E-150 (full size econoline van) can't have it? It's just as front-heavy! There's still no weight in the back! Yet he thought "ooh, hey, it doesn't need traction during the winter!

The thing used to get stuck constantly. Last winter, I literally slid backwards down a hill at a stop light when I tried to start going, and the back wheels started spinning.

Got some studded tires and moved to a less hilly area into an apartment with a real parking lot, and I'm doing much better.

My wife's Camry is actually pretty good in the snow. She has this fancy traction control which can tell when you're spinning a tire like crazy to no avail, so it shifts the power to the other wheel. Can't tell you how often the van just sat there spinning one tire on a sheet of ice, while the other was perfectly fine with plenty of traction. And once you put snow tires on that thing, it can go through deep snow nicely.

I would like to state for the court records that I was full figured when I lived up north and out west as well.

Also, that I'm not FROM down here. so hah. hole in that theory.

Everything thawed yesterday & then refrozen last night. the upper driveway has a lot of ice. So I went up at 11am this morning minus 10 degrees with a wind chill makes it feel like minus 17 .I was in my red shorts ,sneakers & no socks, with a winter jacket on. Spent 20 -25minutes salting the driveway so my honey could drive out onto the road with no problems.

Never even noticed the cold on my legs, but man my fingers were suffering at the end.
Winter sucks.
Fill figured women ROCK ! ! ! !

On another note are we not just 4 Days away & then Skunky ties the knot ?
I seem to remember a Friday the 13th Wedding date...or am I losing it....mentioned back in January ?

I meant the vehicles on the street. My brother & I both own 4x4 drive trucks. Actually most of the pick ups you see around here are 4x4's. My car (a pontiac Wave) is front wheel drive & with studded tires it is impressive how well it tracks in up to 10 to 12 cms of snow & the studs allow for traction even on pure ice survaces.

As I said, the majority of them are as all terrain as a stick of chewing gum - if you have a Land/Ranger Rover, it'll probably do the job. If you have a Rav 4, you should be thankful the zombie apocalypse hasn't broken out.

People don't then to have one car for clear days, one day for snow days over here. Maybe in the wilds of Scotland (where it reached -18 last night in some parts of The Highlands), but mor eoften than not it's just the same vehicle.

As traffic ground to a halt due to the only passable bits of road being dictated by the grooves in the snow made by the driver in front of you, nobody tried bombing it down the roads. Although, a week later, the roads finally cleared - because of heavy rainfall on Sunday night and continuing today, rather than the roads being cleared - and some pavements are still lethal by this point.

Well stay off the roads man.
Its bad enough driving in tricky road conditions when your somewhat used to it. But having so many of your drivers who are not used to it ,sounds like it would be taking your own life in your hands just crossing the roads.
