Well I live a 30 to 35 minute highway drive (that's at 120kms per hour) from Halifax, once you reach exit 9 & that's about 10 minutes from my door. There are about 300,000 people living in the greater Halifax area, which is bit more than 40% of the population of Nova Scotia & the biggest City in all of Atlantic Canada. Atlantic Canada is -(NewBrunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia ,& Prince Edward Island...the smallest Province in Canada, with the biggest name).
So I'm not far from the 'Big City' Malachy...well as far as Cities around here go anyway.
Here in Elmsdale there are about 1400 people , I'm on the outskirts of Elmsdale & when they closed our post office my property was included in the village of Lantz's postal zone, While most of Elmsdale became part of the Enfeild Postal zone. Enfeild is about 2 miles away going SE & Lantz is about 2 miles away going NW.
So I'm pretty Cosmopolitian, In Atlantic Canadian terms LOL

I hadn't joined then, I got divorced in May 2004 & My profile says I joined in March 2005. Although I had been here before that to watch flash etc. I just didn't bother with the forums & when I decided to respond to something you had to join.
I found a Newgrounds link on a Foamy page that a friend had e-mailed me just before christmas 2004 with that great Foamy "No Christmas for you" flash.

I don't remember for sure but I think I got myself banned in my first couple of posts by Freakapotimus or maybe it was Maus. But I deserved it & it was their job.

Okay, everyone, I have an announcement to make;

CHRISTMAS IS OVER, PLEASE QUIT FLOODING THE WAL-MARTS NOW AND RETURN TO YOUR NORMAL ROUTINES.

I went in last night and it was fairly bustling, I meant to go back in tonight to get a few things I missed and I didn't even bother because the parking lot looked about the same.

But last night was worth it though. There was this cute cashier up there, petite little girl with mousy brown hair... and a little sticker on her name tag that said "Please don't eat me!" My mind raced with possibilities and double entendres.

I would also like that, especially because we don't have anybody working there assholes! We're trying but we're getting fucked over so if you could just bare with us a bit.

It's a weekend, and it's the weekend after christmas. People are returning the shit they don't want, and probably also doing some stocking up for New Years. Try back Monday, it should be a bit better then.

But last night was worth it though. There was this cute cashier up there, petite little girl with mousy brown hair... and a little sticker on her name tag that said "Please don't eat me!" My mind raced with possibilities and double entendres.

Did you hit it?

Hey, we've got five days to gouge whatever's left at Woolworths. I'm taking the counter, light fittings and some floor tiles. A tenner should cover it...

Didn't Woolworth's , start as a 5cent & dime store, & he had a statue of him in New York holding out a nickle.
Maybe you should get a bag of nickles & go on a spree...or whatever the monitary equivalent of that is in England.
Happy Shopping.

I was shocked to hear any of those were still operating as I thought the company completely shuttered years ago.

You have to re-evaluate your approach to women when security cameras factor into them.

Yep, it works very much like my family reunions that way...only now any bitterness is probably more public then at those functions.

I think it does make some sad points though about how little people are really reading the whole forum anymore though, and really just staying in their own corners with their own cliques. But some categories too are just naturally narrow. Like the mod one, how many mods are there really in this forum being active? It's a pretty narrow field to choose from for any award like that.

I get what your saying, but as Ravariel had said, it helps to limit the people who will be being voted on. I don't think there is a good way we can get it so people are being nominated once, but it can still be only 3-4 for each category. Maybe next year it should be set up like elimination rounds.

Looking at it through that lens... it almost feels as if this years' nomination thread has been tainted, as people are all picking their obvious choice, shaggy, while other, lesser known trolls are being passed up.

Well, I would have nominated contipec(I consider him a troll) but he hasn't posted in a while, so I went with the obvious one.
who are some lesser known trolls?

Well, whatever, maybe I can host it next year? It's not like we have an official rotation- whoever gets to it first, and doesn't completely screw it up, is the host.

I think you should host it next year; you've made some good points about this year's process, and you could improve on it(overall).

I wanted to keep the nominations completely open so that my own views wouldn't taint the finalists. Since I wanted to keep the finalists to 2 or 3 people (I eventually chose 3), I wanted the chance for others to have a louder voice in who got on the list.

Yeah, some of the categories are a little narrow, and I did mention my willingness to re-do the whole thing to better flesh out some areas, but that didn't seem to be something people wanted done either. Like I said, I just tossed up a copypasta of last year's thread without really doing my own work on it to make it my project. And for that, because I could have made it much better, I'm sorry.

That said: voting topic now up.

Chavez should conquer Latin America, just because Venezuelean cultural imperialism would beat European one, in the sense that we wouldn't be eating all sort of winter foods for Christmas, we would be drinking colorful fruit juice or sth of the sort, which would be much more gentle to one's poor body at 38ºC temperatures (The only AC we have is going to commite suicide soon) Im literally covered in a layer of sweat, and I'm wearing the minimum not to be considered ridiculous in public. The wonders of the subtropic.
I am typing from my old, ignored, ex PC, a 2001 Duron, 700mhz, with windows Me. My relatives are too lazy and uncaring to mantain it; its mouse no longer works, and they can't cough up 6 dollars to buy a new one, so I have to tab my way through windows. It's quite the pain in the ass, especially for such a link-rich page as NG. The PC also randomly crashes, just for teh lulz. Oh well, can't blame it, since it constantly operates at borderline temperatures, and has received no mantainance since it was brought here.
Apparently, I missed the nominations; I have only paid attention to the Alan Greenspan one, and I'm kinda shocked that I am competing against Proteas and Elfer, no offense, but Minarchist, The Pretenders or n64kid, even Smileyz would've made MUCH more sense. I was gonna nominate Minarchist, solely for his profile pic.
And there's something wrong with my leg, after I ran the 6k (19 out of 23 go me! =D) and I can't run, so I'm merely walking. I'm also reading a lot: I read Facundo by Sarmiento, and I'm almost done with Niebla, by Unamuno, which is teh lulz. I have the Oddissey, and also 1984, but in German, that shall keep me busy. I want to write an essay about the effect of the liberalisation of factors markets in wealth distribution in a country, a topic that came up in my discussion with Smileyz in Proteas' immigration thread, and another on a complete reform on the Argentinian welfare system, based on Milton Friedman's proposal. I need to get Acrobat reader, it will look more professional, and I can e-mail the pdfs to my professors. (They say hello to me when they see me, I feel loved. Especially after my full marks in my Math final =DDDDD).
So, I'll be seeing you less, and I congratulate Proteas for his luck of meeting cute shorties.

The outstanding faults of the economic society in which we live are its failure to provide for full employment and its arbitrary and inequitable distribution of wealth -- JMK
