I made gumbo this year. Never had it, but it smells harty and delish... burnt the first ruex... i did better this time.
Made some corn bread... that's finished...
Now I'm making the buttermilk pies.

At 11/26/08 08:12 AM, LazyDrunk wrote: The man is a creature. He's huge. His ego should fit his body, just like how skinny pencil-dick nerds' ego's are fed by their pocket protectors. The man wrestled at an elite level, earned money in the foremost "wrestling" organization and tried his stature at football... in his adoptive hometown. I haven't met him recently, but early in his career he was EXTREMELY down to earth, and carried himself well in public.
Well considering some of his public actions since then, I'd say Brock's lost a lot of that humility. Money and fame can change people.
I went to see Brock's home finale collegiate match, the only match he lost that year, and got to see him bawl his eyes out after failing to live up to the hype. Have you ever been successful, avie? Brock's ego is not something you should fault.
Having confidence is fine, but this guy thinks he's God's gift to whatever he does, and if he isn't treated like a huge star, he gets pissy. Here's a guy that in a press conference with Frank Mir actually stopped the press conference to say "pay attention to me!!!" here's a guy that beats one dude in UFC and pisses off many of the crowd in attendance by disrespecting his opponent and acting like one win gave him a real right to fight for the UFC title.
The WWE is shit you fingerpuppet. Dropping the "F" was the fucking end. Period.
That has nothing to do with the whys or hows on Brock Lesnar quitting.
I'll take your bet that he quits, too. Name your price, up to and including your firstborn.
We'll just see what happens. Because Brock's M.O. these past few years since he emerged as a national sports personality has been whenever he isn't being treated like he's the tippity top of whatever it is he's doing, he takes his ball and goes home. Maybe it will be different in MMA because Brock won't have a script writer telling him that he isn't right for the title, but considering he already tried his hand at one real sport and when he didn't quite measure up he left, I don't hold out much hope here. Like I say, the real measure of Brock Lesnar I think happens in the fight where he loses the title.
I actually caught a segment of his fight surfing channels the night before he whacked his family. He was doing great, winning and stuff, then the predictable happened and he was smashed with a chair from behind and pinned.
His last match was a win, and all indicators suggested that the match he was scheduled for would be a win, which would have given him the ECW Title and the top slot on the Tuesday show, and he would have then been put into almost like an on the job trainer situation where he'd be in there with the next generation trying to get them ready and polished.
Roids can trigger temporary insanity, and I'd been under the impression Benoit was relatively docile when it came to his family. A psycho, no doubt, but if the juice didn't tip the camel, who really cares?
Because if you're going to indict the steroid culture of the wrestling industry, and use Benoit as any sort of example based on what he did, you need to be sure that steroids were the motivating factor. There's ample evidence they were not. Benoit committed his crimes over a period of days, killing his wife friday, his son on saturday, and himself that monday. Temporary insanity brought on by steroids that lasts three days? Nope, sorry, the cops have ruled that as implausible. There's also the diary they found showing progressive mental instability going back to the death of Eddie Guerrero in 05 (they were very close friends), and brain scans done post-mortem that showed extensive damage.
And that's where Brock and the UFC differ. Owen Hart's death actually curbed my WCW/WWF watching back in the day. I'd always think Sting was gunna fall from the rafters during every show.
Agreed, those sorts of stunts should never ever be done. These men are athletes, not stunt men. Pageantry is indeed a big part of the business, but safety and not risking people's lives has to be paramount.
Also happy birthday to Seven :)

That's why I said "I think" because even though I only am in the mood for that ocassionally, there's folks like you that are always up for it.
He learned it from that damn Jew Goldberg, you know that, right? Goldberg was always SO concious of his "career" you could tell he didn't just love the sport of it. Besides, Brock in the UFC is just a gimmick in the end. Eventually the UFC will pull one of it's REAL champions from the Pride merger like Sakuraba and execute his ass. UFC fighters aren't in the same league as the guys from Pride, and everyone who's ever watched Pride knows it.
Never seen Pride, but sure, it hasn't escaped my thought process that they could just be building Brock up to beat him down pretty spectacularly. But I don't really see where that helps their business. Basically when they signed him they had a win/win proposition. If he failed they could say "see? Our guys are real fighters unlike the phony pro-wrestlers!" but if he succeeded (and I think you really do have to quanitfy what he's done thus far as successful) they now have a new marketable star. Far as Goldberg, yeah, I think he was a bad influence, but I think that based on what Brock did when he didn't make starter for the Vikings where he just left, it would suggest there's something about Brock in general that says "if I'm not number 1, I'm going to walk away".
watwatwat!? Scott Hall was fucking wrestling MAGIC. DRUNKEN BOXING!!! Him, Diamond Dallas Page, argh what was his name... ECW... Sandman I think it was? Iceman? But seriously, I liked Hall a bit MORE than Nash, BECAUSE of the drunkeness, fake or otherwise. There's just something NATURAL about a guy stumbling around the ring while at the same time managing to get all his moves off... it's the whole "getting it by the skin of your teeth" thing that makes it worth watching! If I wanted to see a fucking ballet, I wouldn't have shown up to a wrestling show!
I just think it's sad to watch a guy get exploited for his personal problems (and WCW certainly exploited Hall's alcoholism). The guy in ECW was the Sandman, and yeah, he was good for what he did, just swinging weapons around with minimal wrestling skill and moves. But he was never presented on the level Hall was, or made the kind of money Hall did. I guess I just don't have an affinity for people who've been accused of some of the things Scott Hall has been accused of, and done, during his career.
I disagree. After the WWE, Benoit CHANGED, and NOT for the better. He damn near doubled in size, almost overnight. All of a sudden, he had all these stupid emotions that he was too professional for in the WCW. Plus, and this is the clincher HE DEVELOPED A LARGE PAD OF MUSCLE ON HIS FOREHEAD. What does this mean? It means that his muscle mass was increasing INDEPENDENT of feasible exercise. There's no "forehead press"! Big forehead muscle=massive steroid use ala Big Papa Pump and all that nonsense.
That he was using insane amounts of steroids there's no doubt. I'm just saying that you can make that case of a lot of guys, Benoit's death is on Vince indirectly because of negligence of not having drug testing earlier then he has. Had he had stringent drug testing he might have saved the lives of Pillman, Guerrero, and Benoit. Owen I would categorize differently from the others BECAUSE you can directly attribute his death back to WWE. It was their idea to send him up there, even if the harness malfunction can be blamed squarely on the harness maker, the chain of negligence has to start with Vince since he's the one that approved and made Owen due that stunt as part of his contractual obligation to Vince. Vince directly put him into the situation that killed him, those other guys indirectly were lured into based on an unfair expectation of how they should "compete" within their work environment.
Yeah, but Japan also has an ANCIENT history of legal blood sports. The japanese fans are just too smart for all the bullshit american fans will put up with. In japan, you fucking deliver, or you're worth LESS than shit. And I don't care HOW big of a scumbag Von Erichs was, that's no excuse for Vince.
I'm not excusing Vince, I'm just saying that it's been a cruel and scummy business long before Vince got involved. It's just that based on who Vince is, and his position, it's a lot easier and more in vogue to look at, and condemn the evils he's done then it is to go look at someone like a Fritz Von Erich who had to know how fucked up his kids were, but he didn't stop them.
Whatever. Motherfuckers damn near WERE selling their souls to Vince with "exclusive development deals" only to end up black balled from every other organization than the WWE because of it. I PERSONALLY know a guy who had to build his own organization from the GROUND UP because of that dickwad. Memphis is wrestling Tennessee, in the great words of Andy Kaufman. We aren't just fans... you can run into wrestlers at the local Piggly Wiggly like Koko Beware any given saturday in this town. So you see, I'm not just talking about shit I read in an insider wrestling fan mag; I'm talking about sitting around, drinking beer with my buddies, and watch a guy like Tony try and put a brave face on how Vince McFAG screwed him, and pretend it was all good because he's too upstanding of a guy to say it like it is.
And all of those guys like Koko were paid pretty handsomely, and how did a lot of them spend that money? On their vices, because the culture of the business has always been shit, and the WWE culture in the 80's was definitely a culture of excess which even Vince himself participated in. My whole point has been that it isn't just Vince who screwed the wrestlers, the wrestlers have also screwed themselves. There's guys like Hogan that came in doing pretty well in their home territory, became mega stars, saved their cash, and got to where they could give Vince the finger and do what they want. Then there's guys who just didn't save, didn't think of the future, broke themselves down and it's everybody else's fault that things didn't go they're way. I tend to find when it comes to the wrestling business it takes two to fuck people over. That is also based on some personal experience, I have a friend who was a referee with Afa The Wild Samoan's promotion (and apparently Afa is pretty carny in his business practices when you get down to it).
You have to remember, I was watching on local TV the first time Kurt Angle stepped in a pro-ring in front of a crowd. Sid Vicious STILL hangs around this town! Memphis is where wrestlers are born, and it's where they die, too. Why do you think guys like Quentin Jackson came up to DOMINATE their sports? Because Memphis is a violent, bloodthirsty place, and to us, pro wrestling seems like a pretty normal thing. Our normal citizens are all wrestlers just under the skin; it's always a bit of culture shock when I leave here, because that's just not the case in other cities.
I'm well aware that Memphis is definitely a world onto it's own when it comes to pro wrestling, and so much of what the business has become did start right in your home backyard of Memphis. But that doesn't excuse the wrestlers themselves for making poor decisions, or just not having the "it" factor to make it on a national level. It sucks that Vince has basically killed small time wrestling to where guys can't make a living unless they work for him or for The Carters, but that's sadly how business works, and had it not been Vince, it would have been someone else.

I enjoyed their fight with Sharon Osborne on Howard Stern a few years back if that helps. Especially the part where Violent J kept repeating that she was a "frompin' London Bitch" and she kept calling him "a retard with a two inch dick".

I guess my whole defense of Brock relies on the observations I've made since his college days. It seems to me he holds HIMSELF to the highest standards possible, what you would call "I'm number 1ism" or something detrimental of that sorts.
I see it as a healthy pride, overflowing from the beast called Brock. It's hard to call a guy out when you've shaken hands with him as a fan after his greatest defeat up to that point.

Not really. How'd you spend it? I basically spent the whole time chasing my little neice around. She's at that point where playing with her means following her around while she makes up scenarios that don't pan out because she's already making up the next one. She's an angel.

I'm not going to lie. My first instinct was to throw down with you. I am horribly overprotective with my neices to the point where I pity any daughters I might end up with. I have another who's a teenager and dating now. I've told this story to a couple of people here and I might have posted it I don't know. She came over and brought her boyfriend here once. She pointed out my massive dumbell to him and suggested he pick it up. He refused. I proceeded to pick it up and try to hand it to him. The point was made. Beleive me when I say part of you will always see that girl as a 6 year old.

While you're here I just have to ask, has the gay community embraced "the starter wife"? I see commercials for it and the whole premise that people from L.A are rich and essentric seems like gay bait to me.

I had to wiki up "The Starter Wife"--
You know, there isn't, I think, a demographic for the LGBT. It's not an easy group where as you can say, "Oh-- this teen is 15 years old and is male and likes video games, he most likely will watch the line up in Adult Swim..."
Even shows like Ugly Betty, with it's obviously strong gay slant, doesn't attract as many gay people... The problem is that when people say gay, they think of the stereotype. Hell, even networks like Log On and Village TV have some of the worst programs and the gay guys who watch them usually flip over to E! after a while.
Yeah-- sexuality isn't a really good indicator for TV ratings demographic.
You know who are some of the most conservative people who watch Lou Dobbs and those type of lining? The really old gay guys (beyond age 55 plus.) I mean... it's odd, but it goes to show that sexuality holds no distinct or recordable demographic (or at least, a reliable one...) Age is a better thing.
I would think that guys from the ages of 18 to 35 may enjoy The Starter Wife... and a lot of them will be gay too.

Hey, it's better to be overprotective. That way in the future if they know they've got you to count on for help if they need it. :-D
It's going to be interesting if I ever have a daughter/s. I'm not the violent or menacing type, I'm more of a giant teddy bear, but... I've talked to more than a few people at work who are more scarred of what I would do if seriously provoked over what my overly aggressive loud-mouth brother would do.
And while that bothers me, the thought of me being the dad who's sitting there reading MCWP 3-15.3 or TM 31-201-1 when my daughter's significant other comes to pick them up on a date, does not bother me.
She pointed out my massive dumbell to him and suggested he pick it up. He refused. I proceeded to pick it up and try to hand it to him.
How heavy of a dumbell was it?

Yeah--
I'm protective of the girls in my family too. My niece Bianca and I have a wonderful bond. We got to know each other late in our lives (well, I didn't know I had another sister till like... 2004?)
She has a lot of "growing up" questions that's hard to answer sometimes, but I think she appreciates the honesty. The hardest one was, "Hey, ti'rique... have you ever smoked weed?"
I sort of said no immediately, but then, I told her the truth. I thought that, maybe, she may had been at a crossroad decision.
It occurs to me right now that the next time she visits, she won't see Agustin... He used to love her too, and he used to play soccor with my nephews. I wonder how that will affect us in the future. Isaias isn't exactly "people oriented" in the way how when I meet people, I can make buddies pretty quickly. Yeah... Isaias is like a cat sometimes, just sort of by himself when people are around.
I'm in the mood of watching Mean Girls right now... we used to watch that Bianca and me... baking some of her "Wacky Brownies" (the recipe uses vinegar, hence "wacky.")

I went paint balling for the first time ever and it was a great experience. I accidentally shot my teammate in the head because my mask was covered with cold air and everybody went on after being shot. It's a bit expensive though but it's worth it.
