Fuck my English ancestors.

Also. I'm making it a point to avoid any and all election coverage just to keep myself from going nuts. I voted and now I don't want to hear about it until it's all done.

That's what I'm doing. There's a House marathon on the USA network that started about 7 this morning and is going on until 11 pm. Central.

I'm reading a lot of Stephen King at a unforgivable pace.
I got done with "On Writing" in two days, and it's a actually pretty good memoir.

Although, I'm not a fan of the Dark Tower series... read the first two books, and decided to not read the rest.

*sigh*

Or a better author.

I like The Road a lot. It was even better then No Country for Old Man. Cormac Macarthy is a good author, kinda like a Hemmingway, very short and to the point words and can be at times for non descript.

----

I wanted to find the actual video I had of this at one point in time, but I can't seem to find a link for it anywhere. Remember that Illwillpress cartoon where Germain was listening to angry music and Foamy ranted about how much Metallica sucked?

The band playing in the background was "The Missing," and it was Scary Kitty specifically. But I had a video of them performing this song live that I wanted to show everyone. That ominous evil drone you hear in the background? The bass player has a bass with just one string that he plays with a cello bow to get that sound, it's not a synth/keyboard.

I figured if anyone here was a big fan of Jimmy Page's same use of a cello's bow on "Dazed and Confused" they'd get as big a kick out of it as I did. BUT I CAN'T FIND THE %#&*@&^ VIDEO TO SHOW COOL IT IS TO SEE IN ACTION!!!

A lot of people put down Stephen King because he has soooo many books, but, at the same time, I say that he must have something good going on if he's written so many books.

Some stuff is more for the die hard fan, but I loved re-reading The Green Mile.
And On Writing was very fascinating and dead useful.

As for Hemingway. Meh--
I re-read The Old Man and the Sea last week. I don't know why-- I saw the book on the shelf and went, go ahead.

I'm rereading East of Eden, which is one of my favorite Steinback's because it's good... but I keep saying to myself, "there is soooooooooo many problems with this."

Mostly, with the character of Katey Ames. One of the best villains, but at the same time... just so full of problems.

Today, i've been reading some of David Mamet's plays, mostly Faustus (I saw the world premeire of this one at San Francisco's Magic Theaters) and Sexual Pervasion in Chicago.

I was impressed by both speeches, actually. It finally seemed like the McCain I liked from 8 years ago came back out of hiding only when he lost... which is a shame.

But yeah, Obama's speech moved me in ways a political speech hasn't in years... maybe ever. Here's hoping he can deliver, eh?

I'm just glad an Irishman won the election. I mean, after almost two hundred years of discrimination against the Irish, FINALLY a proud irish name like "O'bama" is in the whitehouse. I'm certain Irish the world over will do a shot of cheap whiskey chased by even cheaper beer in his honor.

The Kennedies weren't Irish? Or are you counting them as examples of the discrimination?
