Ok, it's late july so I can kind of understand that they're running back to school commercials. But I just saw one with the prom in it. Is that to make them think there's a light at the end of the tunnel? I don't get proms. Because I was fat in highschool

Private schools make it easy, so you are only competing against about 100 people in the senior class.
Still, I can't wait to be free from the highschool cliques after I graduate. College should be a little different.

There were still groups of closer friends at my university but I wouldn't really call it a clique culture, there are just always people who you're closer to than others. Me and three friends always sat together during classes and went on holidays and so forth, but we also regularly visited other people's parties and went out with them. There was kind of a clique culture in the first few years of high school but even that started to fade in the last two years (out of a total of six). Like Tri-Nitro, I don't know how you people behave in US universities though, could be totally different.

If you go to a dorm, you find clique culture..but that's mostly because the folks you find in dorms are usually lower classmen fresh from high school and people who really haven't grown up enough to live on their own...so it's a bit a maturity dip in the college psyche.
And in my search through universities and visits and such since high school and even into my Junior year, i have yet to find a place where greek culture is...wtf, where are all the frat houses?
Granted I went to a community college and am transferring to a pretty small university which is in pretty much a stareotypical main-street New England town, but I live near some larger universities (St. Lawrence, Cornell, some major state universities...etc) and still no crazy frat parties.
Maybe I'm just not all up in the college experience.

As part of my homeschool group, we had a senior prom, but I wasn't aware it was held until after the yearbook came out and I saw the photos. Pretty shitty turnout from the look of things, but DAMN did those girls clean up nicely.
Tidbit from my personal life; my younger brother has agreed to take on a local amateur UFC fighter at his drinking buddies' house this friday night, provided that there is enough liquor to make him so thoroughly tanked that he will not be able to feel pain. Number of fights my brother has been in, much less won; zero. Initially I was appalled at his decision to do such a thing, but now I am resigned to the idea, and hope that MAYBE I'll be able to stand back afterwards and say "I told you so" should he get the reality check/ass kicking he so desperately needs.
In other news, youtube has just made a decision for me; I will NOT be buying MGS4: Guns of the Patriots should I ever have enough discretionary income to buy a PS3, and it's all thanks to this video.
Reason #1; I liked the metal gear solid series because the camera was stationary, or it moved along a predetermined movie-style "track" throughout the room as you explored. The free form camera and the way it swings around in there makes me motion sick, and therefore unable to play the game.
Reason #2; that video ruined the hidden "surprise" behind one of my favorite characters in the series, namely how Vamp is able to survive fatal wounds inflicted on him. Nanobots. The guy who was made allusions to being a vampire in previous games has the technological equivalent of Wolverine's healing ability. LAME.

Likewise if he loses any teeth you can keep that as the sober moment memento of his idiocy. But regardless, it can't really be that much of a UFC match if he's that drunk.
I mean, yes both will be violent brawls, but there's a difference from a drunken fight and a more coherent fight.

My brother has never been much of a douche, but I still wouldn't mind watching him get the piss beat out of himself if he's dumb enough to agree to it.
I went to prom when I was in 9th grade. It wasn't too great. We danced for 2 hours in the Gym, then were forced into school buses for a 1 hour trip to some stupid hotel with an arcade and were left there and not allowed to leave until 7am the next morning, at which point the buses returned and brought us home.
and they didn't even provide cots or mats to sleep on! fuckers.
I helped set up for prom since my class was in charge of it (no prom committee, just the Junior class has to do it)...we had a cool one set up, but I didn't go because I realized that $50 I didn't spend to buy tickets was better spent on more exciting activities that weren't allowed at the prom >.>

The stipulation is that my brother will be tanked, nothing has been said about the amateur ufc fighter.
I look at this as a win-win situation. Either he gets his ass handed to him and it's enough of a reality check to let him know that he is not as invincible as he thinks he is, OR... he wins and decides to try his hand at Mixed Martial Arts for real, and that sets him on a course that will eventually lead to (somewhat) gainful employment.

If movies have taught me a anything it's that with enough determination someone with a couple months of training can beat someone who's done it since they could walk. It also helps if the trained guys girlfriend seems to like you. If your brother isn't a badboy with a heart of gold i don't like his odds here.

Fuck......
Past couple of months I've haven't been sleeping great, so I set up an appointment for today for the doc. Turns out I have a form of insomnia, which could explain my random night postings. Doc says it's also due to the fact I got Restless Leg Syndrome, (which you can read about here)
So now I'm on some meds that could throw off completely my body. So as a brief warning, if I make a post that doesn't make sense for the next 2-3 weeks, it might be the meds.

Well, the university may have hiked my tuition by a few hundred bucks, and cut the value of my dean's scholar award by 27.5%, but at least they're still going to cut elective courses, block off essential campus through-ways and demolish buildings so that they can build that new student centre that I'll never get to use (which they introduced a separate fee for).

Well... from what I've heard... it's good to have "small" earthquakes, because it means it's putting off the "The Big One." (The one that nearly leveled down San Francisco...)
Right now... the only thing I can complain is the air quality.
The many wild fires has really affected the health... people are getting "colds" but they're not sick. A few weeks ago, I was literally tired everyday when I went out an did my normal stuff. (I use public transportation and walking...) I had a sore throat for a few days.
Now, I know I ought not to bring politics in here, but...
people who are against emmisions control and other environmental stuff... Live here a few weeks with dirty air, and see how you like it getting sick without actually being sick.
Some days are hazzy... but not because of fog. But because of the pollution that being swept into San Jose.
