Gay! Still I might trade you your sprained ankle for my lower back spasms. God there was one day I was working and it was miserable. Of course too it's gotta be sneaky and not start until like mid-way through my shift so I'll be all "fuck this hurts! But money..."

You hit it on the head Stafff .
It was definately not the best effort, although I did like the job Tommy Lee did playing Two Face. The rest wasn't enough to keep me from nodding.

If he did have prescriptions for those medications, he must have gotten them either through a crooked doctor or by misrepresenting himself. They were certainly not legitimate prescriptions.
No clean doctor would prescribe someone a second prescription opioid painkiller when they've still got a legitimate prescription for one, and they certainly wouldn't prescribe three different sedatives AND Xanax on top of that.
Whether or not he procured them from a pharmacy, I think we can agree that it was intentional recreational abuse of the drugs that killed him, rather than a legitimate attempt to control his insomnia (which I've heard a lot of Ledger fans try to claim).

Proteas, does your new sword have the wavey line that shows where the harder edge meets the softer steel of the main body ?

Like in this photo.
Is it made of Damascus Steel? Yes. When the Japanese commissioned the Shin Gunto, factories were set up to mass produce swords, and the steel was typically folded by assembly line workers using pneumatic hammers. The one I'm buying is a type 95, and would have been given to a non-comissioned officer.
Is that pic one of yours, or did you pull it off google?

No it isn't one of mine.
I have never come across any (in person) except cheap knock off's & l don't want one of those.
I have seen some decent ones online for sale... but I'm not a huge fan of sending several hundred dollars to some one off e-bay.

I can't say I blame you.
I suck at taking pictures, and wasn't able to photograph this very well, because the blade itself is in pretty good condition and just mirrors back the reflection of me with the camera. But this is a picture of it on my parent's dining room table next to it's scabbard (which was actually repainted green, not black).

This one is a cloesup of the serial number, and actually turned out better than I thought it would... you can really see the detail of the damascus, the rayskin and cord wrapped handle, as well as part of the tsuba in this one.
A little bit more research shows that this would have actually been a 94 model, as the 95 NCO model would have had a solid cast iron handle instead of a traditional styled one.

The concept of mass produced swords seems so wrong to me.Serial numbers.... <shudder> kind of kills the Samurai mythos in my mind.
On a somewhat japanese related note I'm toying with the idea of learning Ninjutsu as there is a dojo on my uni campus. According to the website they actually teach you weapon fighting from everything from staffs to swords to the Naginata.

I can sympathize with that, but you have to remember that the actual practice of making samurai swords had been outlawed and most family owned samurai swords were seized by the state in the late 1800's. People were simply not making them anymore and there wasn't enough family owned blades to go around. And since Japan had decided to make it's officers as modern day Samurai, the responsibility of providing them with swords was on them.
I'm just tickled that I own a piece of history like this.

Pray I never end up in your neck of the woods and manage to find where you lvie. You will suddenly find that you will be minus one sword :P
DO IT.
Haha. I think I probably will, the ability to learn to fight with weapons is what's making me choose that over some of the other martial arts on offer. That and the fact the syllabus is less ' haaah Fight!' and more ' this is how you fall without hurting yourself and this is how you do a combat roll'.

That's the class I need.
I would take martial arts right now but I bet I need like a month of stretching/muscle conditioning so I don't pull stuff. That's like a large part of it right?

I used to do Thai Kick boxing when I was younger , along witha fe wothers which I didn't stick at, and, literally, I just walked off the street one day and started participating. Whislt stretching and the like is neccessary for all forms of excercise, as a general rule, as far as I'm aware, you don't need to get invovled with anything major league before hand. Do a few stretches a day doesn;t hurt, same goes for push ups and sit ups, but its not neccessary to do that to get in shape to do a martial art. In my experience the instructors and the like are quit eudnerstanding. They realsie that some people walk into the dojo without being in the shape they should be so they incorporate the getting into shape bit as part of the actual training. Over a quarter of the time in my Kick boxing lessons was just warm up activities and stuff that would be classed as cardio work outs.

Unless you're gonna try and head of and learn from the Shaolin Monks you'll be in mixed classes. They may ahev slightly different criteria for grading when it comes to women but that's about it. But even then I'd doubt it. In my experience is that if there's one palce Gender Equaliry exists its in the study of martial arts. Insturctors couldn;t care two shits about you and your background. If you listen and work hard they'll mvoe the earth for you when it comes to your training if they can.

I've thought about taking up some martial art but like the guitar and other such things I worry that I'm too old to ever get really good.
That being said, you have the opretunity to learn how to be a ninja, DO IT.

You'll never be able to beat a shaolin monk, but very few people can and that's just cause they train from like 5 years old. You will however easily get to a stage where you can call yourself good at it and easily be able to kick arse and take names if you need to. If you really are concerned with not being able toa chieve that much, go along to a local martial arts club and ask them what sort of level someone of your age when they start can achieve. Consdiering you're into your fitness and the like anyway, you'll probably find that once you get the basics down the rest of it snaps into place.

This isn't my moment dude, it's yours. Go and become our token ninja.
I did see some shaolin monks one, at Wal-Mart. Serisouly, bald asain kids(teenagers) in orange robes. They were looking at the magazines. It's possible they were just some kind of buddist but I prefere to think I ran into shaolin monks at wal-mart because it's just such a cool story.

Agreed, but I think at least one article mentioned multiple doctors.
Whether or not he procured them from a pharmacy, I think we can agree that it was intentional recreational abuse of the drugs that killed him, rather than a legitimate attempt to control his insomnia (which I've heard a lot of Ledger fans try to claim).
I disagree. There's a difference between addiction and recreational abuse. I do think he was abusing the drugs, and probably suffering from an addiction. I do not believe he was using them in a "recreational" manner - i.e. taking them to get high. I won't go into my personal knowledge of the distinctions between recreational and addiction-based drug use, because I hate to speak ill of the dead.
Anyway, enough of that. I have something cool and geeky to show everyone.

I seem to remember that the U.S. took ?& or outlawed those swords after they won in the Pacific theatre of operations. So there were a huge number destroyed.
Also it became illegal to own them & you were suppose to turn them into the authorities.
Its nice that some of the really old ones survived.
The folded steel pattern in your sword is a really great feature.

They're for one of the costumes I'm doing at DragonCon. A bunch of us are doing BDUs, a couple are doing flightsuits, and the two really tall beautiful women are doing Cylon flightsuits (from the last couple of episodes).

Nice sword man. That's awesome.
Yeah, today kids were chewing off my ears. When I tried to teach them math they kept on giving me the "i don't care" look and talking shit. So I gave them extra homework and a pop quiz. i hope in drove a message in their minds.
I should mention most of these kids are middle schoolers, but still, they need to learn some manners.

Little pricks deserved it. I'm teaching summer school and most of the kids failed a course during the school year. I got hired because I was one of the top people in my class that knows the subject quite well.
A lot of these kids are troubled and I try to help, but if keep on giving me attitude the entire summer I'm not going to put up with it. They need to learn you get what you give. They're not getting much because they're not giving much.
