Ugh... I seem to have come down with teh flu... or at least I think it's the flu. I only have 2 symprtoms:
A chest so congested it feels like there's a spike in it... and my skin hurts.
... I mean wtf?
Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

In the past 36 hours I have spent 21 in the library. I think I've got another 6 to go and I'll have finished all my work.

we've had 2 days where it has been raining in the morning, and then snow/freezing rain by noon.
yesterday I was teaching a ski lesson at the bottom of the mountain and I kept getting hit with these breezes of really warm air, and then really cold air. It was strange.
then it went up to about 30 degrees for an hour or so. Then right at 3:00pm it just dropped ten degrees out of no where.
today It was raining and you could see grass on the ground and by 11am it was snowing and the roads had ice all over them.

You could come visit me, I'll wrap you up in a towel and force an eye dropper into your mouth to give you antibiotics, like I have to with the rats for the next three weeks.

oh, I forgot to mention, I got my acceptance letter from Plymouth State University today.
I'm glad I got in, although it wasn't like I was biting my nails about it, things are different when you transfer...it's a lot less hectic and usually if you are passing your courses you'll get into the other school. and they have a database of credits they've transferred or not transferred from past students transferring into their university from my community college. so I already know a number of the courses I took were already accepted (they even have a row with the year the course was accepted). So I'm happy about that, because it looked like most of the courses they had for general education credits were pretty much word for word the same courses I've been taking the last two years. I expected it to be OK since they both have some of the same accreditations. I also liked how they said if courses from my college weren't accepted, that way I know that they may have taken all of those courses and what about ones they didn't accept? those were mentioned as well. none so far ^_^.
I'm going into their criminal justice and i'm going to probably minor in Pre-law, and then move onto Franklin Peirce's law school in Concord, NH.
they also have a cool program where you can take courses at other colleges at the price you pay for plymouth state. so if there was a course at franklin pierce, and I wanted to take it, I could at the same price i'd pay for a course at plymouth. nice. Reminds me of a state school out this way that has a program like that with Clarkson, St. Lawrence and another state school next to St. Lawrence at the same price you'd pay at your school. they all would let eachother into courses at each school. So, pick the cheapest or nicest campus and you can still get the same level of education as the neighbors.

do rats care?
I remember when my snake ate a woodchip and got a mouth infection, we had to hold her mouth open and spray this antibiotic down her throat.
either way, she got about a million times as much human contact as she would ever need as a baby snake (so she's really docile even after we are unable to handle her for a few days as she gets older) and got way too used to us messing around her face and head. She also had problems shedding at the same time and her eye scales weren't coming off properly, we also put goop right on her eyes to help them keep moisture in, which would make it easier for the eye scale to come off when she shed.
needless to say, she didn't take well to being squirted at, so we eventually got live pinkie mice and force fed them the stuff and then fed them to her. now she's pretty damn docile
grant it you can never say your snake will not bite you, because they are always wild, but she's much more tolerant of us than I bet she would have been without that month or so of 2 times a day of intense holding and forced mouth opening and eye poking. she got better and seems to enjoy contact, even when I put my hand in to change her water, she'll mousy over and want to climb up my arm or at least get a pet.

If it tastes bad, they'll try to spit it out, but if it tastes good they swallow it when you squirt it in their mouths. They're also more likely to lick up any that gets on their face or paws.
Atahualpa was really mad at me for trying to squirt grape juice into his mouth. I don't want him to get dehydrated, and he's not really eating much, so I figured fruit juice was a good thing. He kept wriggling down into the towel, so instead I held him by the scruff, and since his paws were free he kept pushing the eyedropper away. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

When I need to administer antibiotics to the doves, I use a syringe and shove it down their throat. Takes a second.
Only one bird is tricky-- Dorian.
For some reason, she has the ability to close her esophagus when the other birds can't. So, I have to administer her medicine several times in very small does.

Well, medicine or no, it was too much for Atahualpa. He had a stroke or something this evening, and had lost most of his back leg function. He was listing to one side and his eyes were unfocused. So we took him in to the e-vet and made the hard choice.
Rest in peace little buddy.
We took this picture while we were saying goodbye. They took him in the back room and put him in a tank flooded with anesthetic. The nurse said he took only a few breaths and then was gone.

Ah shit = (
I can imagine what you're going through. I dunno if commiserations is the right sort of thing to be offering but I'll offer them anyway.
It sucks when you have to put pets down. I remember having to take one of my cats to the vet to be put down because he'd developed incontinence, was basically pissing and shitting blood all the time and could barely walk.
I felt like a guard at Auschwitz marching people to their deaths as I was walking along the corridor to the vets room.
probably didn't help that I'd been studying the Nazi's all day in my History class so had that image in my mind anyway and I was actually dressed all in black as well.

Lo siento, seven--
I hope my birds never feel a thing when they pass... the white ones are already half way on their life span. (8 years).
I never treated my birds as humans like how people treat their pets like humans.
But, still-- I would be so sad once they've died.
They've always been there as a comfort, especially when they sing.

I have never treated any dog I've had as human.
But that has never stopped me from considering them as a 'best friend'.
While I have never cared for a Cat or Hamster, Ducks, or budgies & paraket's like other members in my family have & still do. I have seen the hurt they experience when one of their 'friends' die or have to be put down.
I get the same way when my dog gets to a point where, killing them is a far better thing than seeing them suffer.
As sad as that act had to be Skunky, at least it was as painless as possible.
While I would never want a pet Rat, bird or other creature, I believe I can still understand how you feel, because of the love I have had & the friendship of dogs in my life.

Weather wise, it's been ridiculously windy in the English Midlands today. There were storms smashing into the building I was in for a lecture at college. It sounded cool, but also freaky. I've heard some accidents have occured outside of town, which is not good.
In other news, my Internet has been pathetic for the past few days. It's more falut for getting a wireless connection really. Don't worry though, as Youtube provides, ahem, "relaxing" music for those stressful moments.

*hug* Sympathies to everyone, including Van Buren, who's going to be lonely.
Anyone who's had and really cared for a pet knows that you don't have to treat them as human for them to be part of the family.

Flu season
Is absolutely insane.
Staying on a horrible note, a puppy of mine fell down some stairs today, broke it's neck immediately and... never got back up.
Ugh, wonderful week.

I realize it's been months since I've frequented the politics forum, let alone the Regulars thread, but it seemed appropriate to post here. I've resigned my modship, and likely from Newgrounds as well. I've enjoyed my time here: the people I've met and debates had, particularly in this forum, but I just don't have the time for it any longer.
I remember when the Lounge thread had its first page, and I felt I had to put my last post in it as well.
All the best to everyone.

Takes a lot of gall to step down once you've moved on, seems more than half the mods have still yet to do so.
Good luck and such, buds
