Well... Luis Valdez is one of the most recognizable founders of the Chicano movement... at least, in the theatrical aspect of it. No-- I take it back. A huge great deal of it.

Plus, he hasn't written a play in several years. This play is his latest, and it marks a break in his 14 year break.

And he doesn't license his plays to other people... ESPECIALLY his musical Zoot Suit. That sucker's copyrights gotta expire first before he will let anyone use it. (I guess... in a 100 years?)

My expereince is that the people most convinced they can sing are the worst singers. Example, the first few episodes of American idol.

Well... I've sang before. But it's certainly not my forte-- I usually stick with things that has a huge range of voice. For 2nd call back, I sang the old Mexican folk ballad "La Llorrona" and it's something that I don't have to use huge vocal range. In fact, I really love the old ballads because ANYONE can sing them because they are meant to be folksy. Plus, I thought that song matches well with the theme of the play (rapped women... rapped identities... crying women...) etc.

If you've ever seen Frida... you remember that scene where Frida is hearing a ballad at a bar? Yeah-- that's the one I sang.

And this dude sings?

There's always music in Valdez's plays-- although, I only sing because I taunt the main character.

I'm a bit Pennywise like that, I guess...
anyways, I think it's a really great character because you hate him so much.

Anyways, the play is about a matriarch, Mama Chu, who is dying. In the play, the family finds out that she has a mummified fetus in her belly that's over 50 years old... and the second protagonist tries to wonder what's their orgins.

In the end, we've discovered that Mama Chu, a Yaqui Indian, was rapped by Cosme and she pleaded with god to not give birth to children in a horrible world. So, she goes on with life carrying this fetus (who is represented a mute deer dancer in the play) and she adopts all sorts of children, nameing them after her original children that were killed by Cosme.

It's a fantastic play-- It's very cultural because everyone who knows Mexican history will see the obvious parallesims to the La Lallorona legend, and the rape of Mexican people. Very alagorical play, indeed.

OR visit Argentina. During the summer. And avoid the south. Go to the northern provinces, Misiones for example.

Or you could move to Florida; that'd be less complicated.

I fail at promoting tourism.

What movie should I go to tommorow? Will Smith in "remake of the omega man" or Hillary Swank in "Didn't Jennifer Garner make this same fucking movie last year? With the 'oh we're so in love. I hope nothing tragic happens" Then boom, something tragic happens and it's like 'dude. you gotta keep living. ' And when did they become the same person? That is fucking creepy"

Actually Staff, to be fair.

Omega Man had a very loose connection to the original I am Legend novel.

So, you can't really say that this is a remake of that.

So let's make some posts people

Ok, this is an idea I've been kicking around for a while. In the grand tradition of forum stories (now religated to user pages, as with this be, possibly with episodic posts here) I thought it would be cool to write a story about the lounge crowd. But just any story would not suit us, we need a spy action thriller.
The idea is basic slock action stuff with intended unapoligetic delivory for the sake of humor. The central character will be based on me, because it's my story, and other roles going to whoever wants them.
So if you think it would be fun to have a character based on you in this project then just tell me, here or pm, that you do and what clich'e you wish to embody. Examples of this are sniper, femme fatal, knife guy, dude who slides on floors while firing submachine guns and so on. Keep in mind that while the characters will be based on you they will also be extreamly typical to the genre. That means if one of our hispanic friends wants a character he will very likely call someone mano at some point. Remember that this is all in fun.
So, who wants in?

Yes, if you by loose you mean "guy has the same name, and thinks he's the last man alive" then yes, it is loosely based on the novel. This version is the Omega Man again with the "main character is like jesus" taken out (yay), but the pacing is far too slow I think and it just really didn't work for me. Rent or wait for it to hit HBO or something is my feeling on this one.

You know, I did a whole blog on the two prior movies made from the novel. Best adaptation I've seen is the comics adaptation Steve Niles did for Eclipse that IDW reprinted.

Also, volunteerage. But if I die like, first page, I'm suing for slander and misuse. Just saying :)

Don't forget, I can't die til near the end and have to escape at least one "insane you-have-to-be-immortal-to-survive-this death trap scenario " if the main hero doesn't anywhere else in the story. That only applies if 1 you're not a public figure for the community and/or 2 he's or anyone else is making any money whatsoever based on the project and/or 3 he's publishing it in such a way that invades lives. So watch out for that stafff and you're golden to kill him off as the person who dies in such a way as to cause the spy investigation in the first paragraph.

Only really gay Mexican people, as I've heard, use "mano"--
And it's nearly always the diminutive... "manito."

"Hermano" is a little less gay-- at least for me.
Sometimes when I play the stereotype, I will say something really lispy and Spanishy... "Aye, manitooooo-- tu, bruto..."

Poor girl, Venom... But, I think she's just after something she can't have anymore.
Like I've said before... play hard to get, and you won't be lonely for long.
