My mom is fucking insane...but she made a damn good turkey. it was probably the first thanksgiving turkey that actually wasn't bone dry (in fact, it was perfectly moist!). god I love her cooking.
it's too bad she was plastered by 3pm when I got there.
She also has a boyfriend...where the hell did he come from?
happy turkey day. I'm going to go level up now. I don't like the 30 icon much though...but I'm only 5 points away.

I didn't know our friendship was being strained...
I mean... we're gonna be on way different sides of the spectrum, of course... but so what.
Okay. I admit that I may be a bit aggressive on this issue.
But wouldn't you when, literally, this is something that's tearing up your family?
I haven't really said anything about this, guys... but I'm afraid my father is may be quickly deported. With the recent movement in congress, my father may not qualify for a new visa.
I guess I haven't said anything because of the heavy conservative view on this issue in NG-- and people like me just don't want to say anything because it's a sensitive issue that's personally affecting us. I'm also trying to be very careful of what I say now because some asshole (many of us know this person) said something cruel about my dead son. And I don't want people say anything cruel about my father.
Because I will transform into an ugly ravenous bitch, and I don't want to do that. But this thing happening with my dad is killing me. I know I have a strained relationship with my dad, but I've always loved him. And I would do drastic measures because I love him. But about his situation:
You see, years ago he got into an accident that resulted in a young girl's death. Of course, he was illegal back then with little English. It didn't matter whose fault it was (I've pieced together some facts: she stole her parent's car. She was drunk. She was going way past the speed limit.)
So my dad spent years in prison. Sure, he shouldn't have been driving but he wasn't a reckless driver like the girl. But because of this, he's considered a felon. And since he's a felon, he cannot apply for a new visa. So once the old one expires, he'll be good as deported to a country that he's no longer familiar with.
And because of this, he's decided to not reapply for his visa and risk getting deported immediately... but stay in this country for a year or two at most. At least, until ICE catches him, or something.
My godson Troy's parents... they're illegal. Yet, their son DeAndre is like me. And his sister Hailey. They're worried too about the future of their children. I beg them that if anything happens... that I would take care of the kids with my sister and my husband. I think I would especially miss DeAndre most because he could look like my own son with the dark hair, light skin, and the certain facial features such as the big brown eyes and heart shaped lips. I know he's not related to me by blood at all, but I love him nonetheless. And he's always known me as "Hunkle-Ree-Kay" (Uncle Enrique). I mean, I've tutored him as much as my cousin Isreal. When I go teach my bratey cousin, he stays by my side and wants to learn. Such a great boy... he'll grow up to be a compasionate human if he makes good choices in the future.
But if his dad and mom goes... then he goes.
I don't know how I can handle it, Proteas. I've handled so much death in my own family in Mexico and my heart broke so much when my grandparents, my uncle and aunt died. Then my son... And to have the rest ripped away from me?
Boy, do I sure sound like a bleeding heart Liberal. But if I do sound like I got a stick up my ass... it's because it's my family I'm fighting for. If you're fighting for your family, you wouldn't care about sounding PC. And you would probably resent people calling your family as "aliens" or social ticks, especially when you know that they're one of the hardest working people in the world. It's family.
The only thing I ask for is, first... be true to what you believe. Don't think I wouldn't care for you if you believed one thing. But most important is to know how to have class... be the most scrupulous person you can be. Be tactful. And be especially sensitive in the way you say things. Because, in this situation, the way things said can hurt people. Be an opponent of illegal immigration, but just show tact and don't be like a cunt like Anne Coulter.
And so-- now more people know my personal situation. And I guess all of you may guess what I may had prayed today. (Okay... I maybe atheist, but I wanted to show my thanks.) Today, during this holiday... I rememebered my beloved dead and missed them. And then, I thank my blessings for having my family and friends for this year at least. And I hoped that next year, I will still have a complete family to do this. Although we're a Latino family... we celebrate Thanksgiving just like any other American family.
As much as we bitch and moan about our family... we still find ourselves fighting for them thick and thin.
But anyways...
I'm ranting.
chillax proteas--
because I am.

There's a rudy gulianni ad where he spears illegal immegrants who've commited crimes. The p.r department would tell you they were talking about the "real" crimes like the drug dealer meantioned in his speech but we all know that these people, your father a prime example, don't get a fair shake in American courts.
Prayars are with you and your family.

Was that supposed to be a PM to Proteas?
I feel wrong for reading it. so until i hear "OMG, i'm sorry guys that was for proteas' eyes only" or "i just wanted everyone to know" I'll hold off on mentioning it, if pruning is needed for Fli's privacy sake.
Anywho.
I didn't sleep at all last night. Early morning news starts at like 4am. what the fuck?! what happens between 11pm and 4am? there's not even enough time for anything to happen. "oh, er...the sun hasn't come up yet, more at 6:58 WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO FUCKING COME UP"
I have a headache and apparently my town can't handle three inches of snow during what looks like half an ice storm....there hasn't been a plow all night and there are 2inch deep car tracks all over the street. glad I didn't have to work in the morning....although, the mountain does open today...I don't think I really want to go riding on this crappy stuff...it's really touch stuff to ski in, especially for a first of the season.

No...
I just wanted to share everyone. Truthfully, I did feel like I am becoming overtly aggressive in immigration discussions. Okay-- asshole, sometimes.
But I'm living in the midst of this very political problem in America. I know my dad doesn't have to worry right now... but what about next year? He'll lose his residency either way. He could do the right thing and apply. But lawyers say he won't get it again in this political situation. So for him it's like this: apply and get deported now, or don't apply and live nearly like a fugititive for a year or two and then get deported. He's opted for the second choice.
And at first I was gonna write up on it... until I said to myself, "Somebody's gonna use it as leverage against me." Or some insensitive asshole will make fun of me and I don't really like losing my cool. Because as nice I am... I can be a total dick if I'm pushed over that point. And it makes me feel I've compensated in what I believe.
I feel I can share things with people in here.
And I do feel better saying it.
So there... people know more about me. At the same time, I would like to think I've given a face to this issue because it's happening to a friend instead of a stranger you hear in the news.
And I don't ask anyone to change their opinions... just show a great deal of sensitivity when expressing it. And in some way, I think I care for Proteas even more for showing that he knows a great deal of tact. Don't know if it's natural ability on his part, but I believe it's Proteas showing everyone here that he's a great human being who cares for others.
So... kudos, amigo.
Ciao-ciao... adios.

well, I find your situation really bothersome, because the way I see it...if you are legal enough to be put into jail, you should be legal enough to stay.
But you're right, the legal situation, especially where you are, is not very kind and what politicians want to do is try to show they are for the "good" illegals and against the "bad" ones, who unfortunately they feel your father is because he has a criminal record.
My thoughts are with you and your family as life can get pretty unpredictable when his visa expires. Good luck.

Oh turkey sammich...
how I fantasize thee.
In my hands... in my mouth... all yummy in my tummy.
How you tantalize me.
With your turkish delight, delictable dressing, and sweet cranberry attitude.
I will have you...
for a week and two.
and sure. I will tire of your deliciousness.
Until-- you're gone. And then for the rest of the year-- I will fantasize your tantalizing goodness.
I'm your slave.

Were there any threads about Elliot Spitzer's plan to grant drivers licenses to individuals w/o social security #s? It was meant to solving the sort of problem that fli just described, but the media spun it as the Democrats trying to give illegal immigrants the ability to vote. Despite the fact that (legal) immigrants can currently get driver's licenses and that they're not a valid piece of identification to use to register to vote...
Spitzer's polling in the 30%s now because of it.

God dammit man, now you're ruining mah e-cred!
*grumbles*
In real life, I'm actually a nice guy. The kind of nice guy that's easily approachable, very sympathetic, makes a great sounding board, and gets along with everyone... and subsequently has never had a girlfriend because every girl he meets usually sees him as being that one guy friend they can't rant about other men too, which SUCKS. On the occasion I do swear or get pissed off, people are actually shocked to see it happen because it's kind of out of character for me (in public anyway). Which is not to say I live vicariously through my e-persona, which itself has mellowed out considerably since I got on medication for OCD I've noticed...
I've always tried to approach the issue of illegal immigration with tact because I know the vast majority of illegal immigrants are good natured people, all I've ever done is worked in the customer service industry, you see people at their WORST when they're going through the checkout line at a grocery store and Mexican immigrants (regardless of legal status) are usually still nicer than most white people I've dealt with. My only issue with immigration is the cost to the American Government, and their hypocritical stance on it. I'm not going to sit here and pretend Mexican immigrants are monsters or anything, and to borrow from Violent Jay of the Insane Clown Posse... Anne Coulter can suck my nutts until her teeth fall out.
And as far as your family situation goes, fli... I was close to tears as I read through that. I've been looking for excuses to get blitzed tonight because of work today (it was a lot busier than I thought it would be, believe me), but if anyone deserves a good strong drink around here, it's you. You are made of stronger stuff than I, because I would have hanged myself by now if I was in your shoes... or been committed to a mental hospital, one.

As someone who sliced raw jalepeno's and gotten the juice all over my hands and not realized it, I feel for you.
However...
I couldn't help but laugh at you, though. My best advice would be to avoid direct sunlight for a few days. ;-D

i started doubting wether or not it was because of the jalapeno, it had a weird feel to it and would start burning everytime that area got wet. though may just be what it feels like when you get it on your face when everything is dry cause of a cold. grah.
took me by surprise, i generally consider jalapenos pansy peppers.

I worked retail today. I didn't get the worst of it since it was an afternoon to close shift, but still pretty bad. The boss is cool, though. I got time and a half for working Black Friday, and caterers were in and out of the breakroom all day.

That must have sucked. But, look at the bright side: You have the weekend ahead of you to rest and do nothing! Besides, there's one year until the next Black Friday (except you're counting the christmas eve, of course)
Have a nice rest this weekend!

Sympathize you...
oooh baby-- I know how retail feels (and waitering) during the crunch holidays. (And banking...)
It's cool where I work (beside of a few episodes.) They didn't call me all flustered begging me to come, or anything like that.
Today-- I just played Final Fantasy 7 all day and did nothing really constructive. No homework... no work... no nothing, really. Shoot, it felt like high school again during the holidays.

Pansy peppers? I'd hate to hear what you consider hot then. But yeah, the juice from a fresh jalepeno will burn you if you're not careful. Not like a chemical burn or anything, but it will sting you. And the worst part is that it will stay in your skin for a few days, and any heat (like direct sunlight for example) will activate it and warm you right back up again.

No, you got it right. It's just not one of those words that firefox spell check recognizes for some weird reason.
Yesterday our store was budgeted to do about 100K in business because of black friday... we did 60K by 1 pm, 99K by the time I left at 7 pm, and my brother informed me this morning that they somehow made it to 110K in sales for the day by the time the store closed. We did in one day what we would normally do in 3 days, which shocked the hell out of me. It was by no means a madhouse like what you see on the news, but we were still fairly busy throughout most of the day.
And the pathetic thing is, I didn't buy anything because I came to the logical conclusion that there wasn't anything on sale that I desperately needed for cheap. Then I promptly got my paycheck, went to Wal-Mart, and spent $50, of which $30 of it was on junk I really didn't need. I don't advise buying the little "Forever 80's" tin box compilation thing they sell if you ever see it, though, it's a tribute compilation and not the actual songs by the original artists... fuckers.
