Amazon.com must love my fiancee and I. Every week there's a box from them filled with books.
and they the last two boxes haven't even been my discworld series..which just conquered it's own shelf on the bookshelf....nudged a few of my fiancee's books to the floor and left and we won't get into what it did to the poor Dean Koontz audio book....

I don't like that book, and my sister wants to see the movie...
100 Years of Solitude was a better book that deserves to be made into a 3 or 4 part mini-drama like the Thornbirds.

Why can't you people read books that don't have Spanish words in it dammit.
Read something by T.S Elliot, or Scott or Poe.
Just not Oscar Wilde, he sucks.

It's got a nice spicy bite to it (or a "good sting" as fli would say), it's not like some habenero sauces I've tried that leave you curled up in the fetal position, sweating and crying for your mother. But it was the morning after that made me think twice about ever ordering any of it... I'm still contemplating it, mind you, I think it would go great on a nice flame broiled hamburger, or grated up on some home-made tacos or something.
I think I've got you all beat as far as books go, to be honest. Behind me sits a 24 foot long set of bookshelves about 6'8" tall stacked to the brim with books, and that's not the only place we have them hear either. It seems like we each have our own miniature bookshelves in other parts of the house as well....

I really don't like Stephen King. When I want to read something ridiculus and funny, I usual work my way to the comic section of the bookstore.

Latin America is a WEALTH of literature and film that's been seriously untapped by the rest of the world. And I'm not talking about the big name of Garcia Marquez... Some of the neo-Nuahtl poetry is spectacular, which can seriously be taught with the English pastoral poetry if anybody thought of that.
Right now, I love scouting out on eBay for legit DVDs in Latin America that hasn't been imported here in the US.
But anyways...
Oscar Wilde... He's DIVINE.
If you remember, I named one of my doves Dorian... after his book, the Portrait of Dorian Gray.

Seven, it's okay to be friendly with and care about your students, but I think you also have to maintain a certain level of detachment. Mom learned that when she first started teaching. Since then, her students have had several things happen. One example is the girl that died after trying to induce an abortion with all sorts of pills. Yeah, it's okay to feel bad, but if you let everything get to you that much, you won't be able to function. I'm not trying to be a callous bitch or anything, that's unfortunately the way it is.
On a lighter note, Rob says he absolutely loves candy corn and is willing to take 10 pounds off your hands. Though I do wonder how much it costs to ship...

Fli.
I've read Dorian Gray before, because I thought I would like Wilde.
But, I just didn't. I didn't like his support for the decadent movements, and I just didn't like The Happy Prince.
But I did like An Ideal Husband though, wierd.
Anyways, I've always though Whitman was a bit better then Wilde.
And Burns was better then both.

You'll live Seven. Remember the end goal of teaching:
To help the kids as much as you can while you have them. It's not up to you to control when or how they leave your care, but do what you can while you got em and don't worry so much about when they take off. You've got other kids to worry about as well after all....

I think Wilde is the type of people you get or don't get...
But his many sayings are just absolutely memorible. Some authors come and go out of fashion. I really enjoyed Portrait, and when I saw League of Gentlemen... I was SOOOOO happy to see Lestat play Dorian.
Wilde, I think, is the type of author that gets a new league of followers every other decade... sort of like Graham Greene. Everyone is all about Graham Greene and adapting his stuff after 9-11 (after The Quiet American came out.)
I haven't read Burns and the who-whatz-it. Right now, I'm trying to read Anna Carina and I guess I can find a used Burns book somehwere.

Obcessed with alagory to the point that the narrative can get lost. Hit or miss really. Mostly in the case of the reader

The Who Whatz it?
But Burns is key, he's one of my favorite romantic era poets, and him being the national poet of Scotland, and my moms ingraining him in my head was also helpfull.
I consider him next to my love for Dylan Thomas.
