I've only gotten drunk to the point of throwing up a couple of times and that was enough. The thing is that unless your chugging a bottle of liqour you're going to know something's up before the point of no return. I mean I know the point of getting drunk is making bad choices but no one likes feeling sick. And just a guess, the friend who pulled him out of the fire hates him now. We all hold onto this little back of the head addreniline rush of sobriety incase someone gets hurt but it is not fun at all using it.

I can't get drunk like other people can, apparently. Every time I try, I just end up staying up for a couple of days watching people pass out and sitting in dark strangers houses waiting for them to wake up and lock the damn door.

What makes this so bad is that women tend not to drink as much as men, so their boyfriends normally pass out WAY before they do. Apparently nursing your drunk BF is a really feminine thing to do. At any rate, these girls spend all night getting all horned up on their man, and then he passes out with an obvious case of the whiskey dick.

And there I am. Totally awake, lucid, and telling jokes about kittens. Surrounded by horny women with passed out boyfriends. I've been sexually assaulted by THREE DIFFERENT WOMEN in the past 6 months because of this. And two of them were NOT HOT (I'm being VERY polite).

WARNING!!! TANGENT!!!

Wait... no... 4 different women, two of which were not hot. But Erica was consentual, so she really doesn't count like the other three. Blah.

Just friday, I had fucking Myra try to pin me to the pool table in the middle of the bar. And I'm actually attracted to her, but her current boyfriend is WAY too sensitive to deal with her cheating on him with me, and I'm friends enough with him not to touch her. Which is a very chivalrous stance. Which women find attractive. It also makes me "forbidden fruit", which again, women love. So it's only going to get worse, because I DO want to sleep with Myra, just not while she's with Dell. And, as we all know, women can tell these things without being told because they read your body language.

TANGENT OVER

Don't believe me? Ask fucking Avie, or Pox. Or Uber. They all know. Shit's crazy. I just don't sleep like other people, and noone else in my family is like that. It makes it really hard to feel like a human sometimes.

Polls were quite accurate.

Look at it this way: You people have the one of the female presidents that would take the least amount of beers for a reasonable man to find her hot. I mean, don't take me wrong, it would still take a fair amount of beers. I mean, DAMN. I'm all for that 5-bucks-a-trick-bimbo red perm, but her face reminds me of my aunt. And my uncle. And my grandfather.

So... getting drunk, huh? I think the most drunk I ever got was a couple of months ago, when we went to Valdivia to attend the film festival there. So we rented some cabins, and in our second night the guys are all like "yo man let's partay" and I'm like "okay" so I put on my cool clothes and go there. So I think I started off with two or three tequila shots. Big mistake there. Afterwards beers went down like water and I think I drank half a bottle of pisco because I thought it was Sprite.
The thing is that I somehow managed to keep face the whole time until I realized I couldn't feel my limbs move anymore. So I was like "I'm not losing my dignity in front of you suckers, fuck this shit" and I go back to my cabin to get some sleep. I was doing so well and I thought I was going to pull it off. So I stumble my way into the bedroom and let myself fall like a sack of potatoes into my bag. So I'm like "Man I can't believe I didn't embarrass myself at all this t-" Puke. Puke puke double puke regurgitate puke. So I'm flapping in my own vomit and I decide to take a run for the bathroom. I leave a nice trail of vomit all the way from one room to another, and suddenly I notice that the party had just shifted to my cabin. I think I flail my arms in my little puke pool before passing out.
Bye bye cool clothes. That wasn't a very smooth moment.

Other than that, I've never had a problem with alcohol, I think.

This sprig my brother & I dug a new well for my place, the old well would often go dry in the end of summer when it got too dry, not often , but enough to be a pain in the ass.
So while I worked on the well & hook up I was without water for 3 days or so.
Out on the highway there is a "bigstop" Gas station/resturant.
They are all over Eastern Canada, they cater to highway travelers & truckers.
& you can rent a shower complete with towels, face cloth, soap, for around $5.00. You can bring your own supplies & it then rents for about $3.00

Don't you have these type of facilities in the U.S. truck stops?
Its cheap & you don't have to go to an hourly rented hotel (what must the condition of those rooms be <shudders>)
The showers/Tub units are cleaned after each use & once I had to wait about 10 minutes for one while it was being cleaned.
They were very clean each nite I went there.

Wells?
What are you, Rustic Mountain Man?

The only wells I've ever been near too are the wishing type...
and the old one on the family's ancient family plot in Tepetclaoxtoc, in Mexico City.

Supposedly, my great-great grandfather on my father's father's side hid gold somewhere on the inner-walls of the well.

That's not the only family story that involves hidden treasure.
My great-great-great grandmother on my father's mother's side hid a huge fortune right in front of her house, under her door. My great-aunt sold that house, but my grandmother thinks the new owners never found the treasure.

My cousin/ compadre Carlitos has fantasies of digging both treasure out, but he's very superstitious. Supposedly, all buried treasure that's not yours will kill you if you go on a quest to obtain them.

Cursed treasure has a way to add mystique to family history...

I didn't know you came from pirate stock. One is forced to question the motivations of hiding, or stories of hiding, monitary rewards in places you'd have to dig away your heritage to get to. Maybe to be the kind of person who'd do that is the curse.

We used to have well-water at our house for a while... we didn't dig the well itself, mind you, but it's not uncommon for people in this area to drink well water and the like. It cut's down on the monthly bill for "City Water." ;-)

I remember when my grandmother had to switch over to City Water because the lake she got her water from became polluted after some construction in the area... she liked to have had a fit. 40 or 50 some odd years she had lived in the house that she and my grandfather built from the ground up, and she would finally have to pay for water. She got over it once she was able to wash clothes and they would actually come CLEAN, though.

Supposedly, my great-great grandfather on my father's father's side hid gold somewhere on the inner-walls of the well.

Well, the inner walls of a well are mostly brick and gravel in order to filter the ground water. He could have hidden it behind the wall, but that would have been quite a task.

Cursed treasure has a way to add mystique to family history...

My uncle supposedly hid $500 cash from the profit of his pot plants in a coffee can somewhere in my grandmother's backyard before he died, but no one has been able to find it. We've had metal detectors out there and everything, can't find it for beans. That's about the large and small of "secret" buried treasure in my family...

I bought the Alice in Chains "MTV Unplugged" album at Wal-Mart today, I about freaked when I saw it sitting there though... I've been looking for some of their stuff for a while but haven't been able to get to the mall in quite some time, so this was a welcome treat.

A little bit of clarification; although I have never dug a well, I am familiar with their construction. My dad collects this series of books called The Foxfire Books that are a collection of interviews with people in Eastern Tennessee and the Appalachian Mountains, and articles about crafts and the like. it's like the "Steal This Book!" of Appalachian life and culture, pretty much.

And as I was thumbing through one of the books one day, it covered Well Construction.

I think I may get him the 40th edition book for Christmas... but don't anybody go snitchin' on me, I'll come after you.

Well, my grandfather said that it wasn't uncommon for people to hide money and gold. One story sticks out in particular... gold in stoves and BBQ pits.

In my grandfather's town, they are famous for it's BBQ because they cook it in the ground and they use maguey leaves to give flavor and moistness to the meat. My grandfather said that people often hid their gold in these pits or sometimes in stoves. But then it got to the point where when a burglar wanted to rob your house, he'll check the backyard BBQ pit or stove first.

So, people had to devise ways to hid their gold... it just so happened that my great grandparents hid them at a well and in front of their door.

I remember when I was a kid I used to kick ash and backed dirt from these pits. Including my cousin Mauro. And sometimes my uncle Pepe would come in and help us before he said that if we wanted gum.

Then he would give us money to buy gum, and then he would sweep up our mess when we were gone.

Yes.

As followup, my car cost me a grand total of $36.02 to fix. Bad battery contact and corroded wire was killing my charge. Alternator isn't great but it'll work if I don't run the rear window defroster (wtf). Yeah, apparently the rear window defroster uses more power than the rest of the car (minus starter when starting) combined... lights, radio, wipers, etc. Crazy.

Anyway, holy shitload offa my shoulders. Woulda been near $500 if I had to replace the alternator. Which would have meant near time for a new junker (and a new job).

I've been sexually assaulted by THREE DIFFERENT WOMEN in the past 6 months because of this. And two of them were NOT HOT (I'm being VERY polite).

Hawtness, there is an Internet Video collection just waiting for publication.
Hell I might even consider entering a credit card number or two just to sponsor the effort

What are you, Rustic Mountain Man?

well...actually....

The only wells I've ever been near too are the wishing type...
and the old one on the family's ancient family plot in Tepetclaoxtoc, in Mexico City.

man, most people I know in the area grew up with well water because most towns simply don't have the infrastructure, or because our towns are useless at maintaining water service.

in my home town they found out that there was a leak which degraded the soil underneath a major road, and if they hadn't found it, the road would probably have collapsed this winter.

where I live now the town failed a number of water tests in February and didn't give us notices until June (they had to fail 3 tests in 3 consecutive months and had 90 days after the third failure to notify us...so we had bad water for at least 3 months after February)

Actually, at the outfitter I worked at this summer he was off the grid, had a couple of solar panels on the building and a generator to run the water pump (which pumped water from a shallow well right next to a pond) the water wasn't potable so we had to bring in potable water every few days.

He has a composting toilet out there. basically, he has a box with a toilet seat and it's over a hole in the floor of the building, 2 scoops of sawdust when you urinate and 3 scoops of sawdust for a Cleavland Steamer.

we had to dig up his gray well (actually, it's not technically a well, it's just where the gray water emptied into) and replace some plywood on top of it.

it was a cylindrical hole with cement blocks for the walls and plywood over the top to keep soil out of it.

As I write this report, I realize that a rainforest must be a biologists wet dream.
