I was supposed to have one hour of classes today, because the association of teacher's unions declared strike, but our Biology substitute teacher (aka Quirrel, because he's bald, thin and shy) turned out to join the strike, so no school today. So I went to a friend's house, and he had Rome, the series that HBO made, and I've watched till the 3rd episode of the 1st season. I don't know whether any of you have seen it, I like it so far. What did that have to do with black coffee? Oh, he made a cup of very strong coffee, so strong that I had to put 5 spoonfuls of sugar to make it drinkable.

Yeah, Steve spotted him first (my visibility wasn't so great from the chair) and we flagged him down. There are more pictures of the two of us, actually. These are all the Oracle pictures, and this gallery is more Catwoman pics. And the only photo of me and Steve in our Men in Black costumes is here. You like my big gun?

Admittedly, I'm kind of tiny.
We only saw that one Batman the entire day I had the Catwoman on. And by the time we found him, I had started to get uncomfortable and taken off the hood and gloves. When we spotted him, I raced to stuff myself back into the accessories so we could get the picture.
Of course, the next day, when I was in the Oracle, there were a ton of them.
I was amused by the number of people who asked Steve and I to kiss while we were in our Nightwing and Oracle. Would have been even funnier were we not together.

Happy first day of class to those that started today.
On my first day of senior year?
I remembered why I always try to take upper level courses.....and stay the hell out of the 101s and 202 intro courses.....
Much more fun, much more stimulating, and the company is 20x better. I'm more comfortable with the grad students sometimes 2x my age than I am with the damn kids 2 years younger than me......

Dante's Divne Comedy was a collection, or more exact, three books written in the vernacular at that time and place. Italian. It was also written in prose.
But, I have only read the English versions of all the books, I never knew you were interested in the Divine Comedies, Solly.
Which one is your favorite?

Most people are only aware of The Inferno. I guess because hell is more hardcore or some such shit. Why would I read about people doing well? I forget is the third one paradisia or paradicio? I know I misspelled both, consentrating on the ending.

I've read the complete Divine Comedy...
Hell is definitely the best of the three... Paradiso is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring.
The best translation I believe has to be John Ciardi's. It's not literal, but poetic.
I think that's the best type of translation. I hate how clumsy literal translations are... especially Robert Pinsky's version of the Inferno.

Jock classes are always the worst. I always hated them, cause I felt the profs had to dumb the class down to their level to accomodate them. I paid for a GOOD education, not to have brilliant professors describe addition to the fuckin linebacker on scholarship who's gonna end up at McDonalds....
this semester i'm taking "State and Local Government", "Sociology of Addiction", "Principles of Biology I" and "Popular Culture"
Sociology of Addiction sounds disgustingly interesting......
My most interesting this semester is:
"Culture, Racism, and human nature"
Of course a runner up is:
"Love and affection in the Ancient world"
I wanted to take as well "Anthropology of Religion"
"Culture, Thought, and Meaning"
and "Reading clues and evidence of Violence in Modern History"
But as usual all the classes I want to take conveniently meet at the exact same times, on the exact same days......

Italian is the original language, and it's ALWAYS better to read something in the original language. I didn't realize how sweet Caesar was until I was reading it in Latin. English just doesn't do justice....
It's like how Hollywood can take a spectacular book and turn it into an absolutely god-awful movie. Same concept.
