you guy's poor man's food is a lot richer than mine.

Ramen noodles. Tuna. DONE. Maybe peas. MAYBE.

Or, another step down: white rice+beans. You just can't beat it. Beans and cabbage cook up fast and simple, too.

I often find myself simply going into the fridge and taking out frozen pad thai from Trader Joe's. The BEST supermarket EVER...

Okay, following along the subject of food:

Listen up kiddies, it's story time!

Now, like most schools, the food my school serves is absolute shit. Ok, maybe there's the occasional pizza that isn't crappy (not often), but on the whole, the food bites ass. As another option, however, they put out bread (white and wheat), peanut butter and various types of jelly (the last two being in little paper cups in minute portions). So, the regular food being what it is, and in such small, unfulfilling portions, most people fall back upon the PB&J for sustenance. I mean, it's PB&J, how could you go wrong? (With cheap peanut butter, watery jelly, and crusty bread, that's how. But I digress.)

So, many a day, I have sat and watched people prepare and eat their little American standby, and became quite intrigued at the different methods of preparing the sandwich. Some ise white bread, others prefer wheat. Some put the peanut butter and jelly on seperate slices of bread, some just mix it all together. Some like iot with crusts, others simply abhor them. And almost no one uses the same ratio of PB to J. The list goes on.

So, my question is: What is YOUR method / recipe (if you will) for making PB&J?

Ramen by itself is fine to me, especially if you get one of those flavored kinds. I've never been a big fan of PB&J, I just prefer making nachos myself...

You know what? I think we've discussed this before in the Lounge, or something rather similar. I've got this terrible sense of deja vu...

My mom makes that every now and then, I can't stand it really, which really kills me because she usually doesn't go out of her way to cook for the whole family anymore except on Sunday's. But what is this "Odwalla Superfood" you speak of?

Personal favorite recipe; meaty chili. There is no exact recipe for what I make, but when I do, it usually goes as follows.

3 or 4 pounds of ground beef, cooked and drained.
Stewed or Diced Tomatos
Chopped Onion
3 cans of chili beans (mild)

I usually just throw all this in crockpot and let it simmer, make sure it has a nice thick (but not too thick) texture too it. Oh, I forgot the secret ingredient; use taco seasoning on the ground beef. My mother used to do this a LOOONG time ago, and I never could figure out what she did until finally I just asked her one day while experimenting in the kitchen.

PB&J preference; crunchy peanut butter, grape jelly, on white, WITH the crust. PB can be room temp for maximum spreadability, but jelly has to be cold. And a nice big glass of milk to go with it.

Odwalla Superfood is a gross-looking drink (looks like swamp muck...) that they sell all over the northeast...or, at least, wherever you can find a Starbucks. Most of the Odwalla stuff is good, but I wouldn't drink "Superfood" for a million dollars (hyperbole, but the point is made).

Superfood is a beverage that contains lots of tasty fruit juice and things like wheat grass and spirulina. Looks absolutely disgusting, tastes really really good. Kind of like a smoothie, with a thick texture. Antioxidants, vitamins, etc.

Very nummy. We have a big jug of it in the fridge. I've been drinking it in place of orange juice because OJ gives me heartburn.

Yeah, it's good. Tastes fruity, not at all how it looks. It's just the spirulina that makes it look that way - tons of chlorophyl.

you offend me good sir. i am by no means NEAR jersey. the thought disturbs me greatly.

and upstate vermont and boston? who the fuck taught you geography?

no, upstate NY, where i hail from is a cesspool of disparity as is much of upstate vermont. what you are talking about are the fucks who are FROM jersey and boston who show up once every four weekends to spend time in some nice fucking condo they paid a million dollars more than it was worth. THOSE ARE NOT RESIDENTS.

either way, we are a good 5-6 hours drive NORTH of new york city, new jersey, pennsylvania and boston. I live in a mountain range called the Adirondack mountains. Known for among other things, logging. the logging industry has taken tumbles in the last thirty years, and the factories have all gone bye bye. In fact, I'm only an hour and a half drive south of Montreal. That's closer than even the state capital of Albany. Burlington, VT (totally white trash, despite what you may think) is only a two hour drive/ferry from where I live.

sorry, i don't mean to sound angry or offensive in any way. What i'm trying to say is that we get nasty winters and we may be known for having mountains and snow and we may be some stupid place for rich folks to purchase overpriced second homes, but we are not comprised of those people. Those people dont spend any time up here if at all during a single year. They show up sometime after fly season and leave just as quickly. They maybe come up and waste $400 for a hotel room for a weekend to go "skiing" if you call that rigid and abrupt technique, sit in the bar all day, fall on their asses and threaten to sue for no good reason skiing. No, everyone says "oooh, i have a home in upstate new york, or a condo in vermont...wooo" but they are not a vermonter or an upstate new yorker. they're just another city slicker who probably put three families out of their homes because they wasted so much money on a tiny plot of land that the property values of the entire town rose and the taxes that came along with it were too high for the families to afford.

we are primarily white, yes, but we aren't the elitist WASP style of white. we barely make ends meet, our careers dont pay livable wages, ignorance and dropout rates in many schools are near 33%.

I knew a girl who was like that too in the 5th grade...
I also knew a girl in the 5th grade who could not simply finish a whole small to medium banana by herself. She would spend a whole lunch (45 minutes back then, if I remember) picking at it with her two front teeth. Not even going for her sandwich.

Then she would get upset because she didn't eat her banana. It was like, her goal, or something. Always complained how she felt full and wanted to throw up.

And funny thing was... her stomach did look distended often.
thinking on it now, I guess she had an allergy or something.

But it's still a mystery to me. Why was it important for her to eat a banana if it took her so long to eat it?

So I am now done my third year of university, just one more to go (unless I go onto grad school which I have not decided yet). However in the next few days I have been suckered into helping 4 different houses pack up and move (all girls too so you know I am going to be doing all the work).

Allah, please have mercy on my back.
