It's all done, cellar is eating a ban (what a shock) and if people can't see that as good enough reason to drop things, I can always give them a couple of days away to make sure they're good and over this little bit of drama. Ok? Ok.

No, you never liked me. You can't tolerate just about everything I represent that you hate: gay, democrate, liberal, environmentally conncerned, not extremly pro-capitalism, etc.
I am literally the winter of your discontent, yet... I am able keep a much more open friend base that has Neo Cons. While you... you stand alone. Not even with the people who believe in your beliefs!
Not wanted here. Not wanted there.
And when I get BITCHOLA on your ass and call you something that I regret after I've said it, I still maintain good friendships because, ultimately, they can forgive a racist slip of the tongue than the racially motivated bantar that you've been spewing over and over.
I like to say it's pizzaz... chrisma... attitude. But it ain't that because I'm not sly.
I'm honest.
And I've been careful to say that I regret it (although, I don't apologize to you because, in our case... it's was tit for tat.) And I don't don't do a Bush thing and nominalize my words and thus my actions. "Mistakes were made." Versus... "I made a mistake." That's how I am.
Slip of the tongue in a moment of blind rage.
Yet-- people look at you, and though they haven't said it... they know you're more at fault. For what basis do you have to say I belong to Nation of Atzlan? Or La Raza. When the only thing I done was to enter the fourm and asked a friend to protest together in SF? You started everything.
As far as Whitey-- I don't use it anymore than most regulars use the term fag (which is a word that I also relish in using.) And it's cognate is far less worse than any derogative term for people.
You have no basis in my posts to say that I belong to them. So what do people like Fabulous assume? You're just accusing me of this this because I'm Latino. And upon my discovery that the NoA are a homophobic group (who wouldn't accept my open homosexuality)-- you lose even more credibility. They just see you attacking essentially my character and also my culture. And you, darling, have posts and POSTS of evidence showing your raciist ignorance.
And what you got of me darling, huh? Just me calling you half terrorist. And then there's an apology right afterword. But you-- I can close my eyes and point at any of your posts and show your cracker jacking, intolerent western-centric thinking, prickish-making IGNORANT attitude that are more inherent to racists.
Cunt, how do you think how I felt when you accuse me for being a group of people who are homophobic? How lovely, tell the Latino to move to Cuba. The only motivation I see in your atttack on me is that you can't STAND the fact that I love being Latino. This is just the only basis you have to associate me with them. That I have, the audacity of protesting with illegal immigrants! That I believe we shouldn't ban languages. Or that I compare readily the illegal immigration of Mexicans into US territory to the arrival of the Forefathers. That I talk, ad naseum, Coke's horrible actions against the culture of Mexico's last indigenous peoples... or the Conquest of the West.
You can't stand it. Because, my fellow kettle, you're a racist. Although, not in words like I had been once. You're racist in attitude. And ultimately, your attitude is much more worse than that one instance where I called you half terrorist. Being upset and trying to find a way to hurt a person with words is more forgivable than a person who is actually ignorant in attitude.
And it became much more apparent that you're were racially charged. When you kept losing face on your claim that I was part of the NoA. You couldn't prove it with actual textual evidence in my posts. In fact, you refused to even look for it. You lost more credibility when I was even so darn kind enough to give you the date and post count number of my post!
And when people found out that NoA were homophobic, you lost everything. They couldn't believe you because I'm gay and which openly gay man is willing enough to be part of a gay hating group? And yet you still insisted that I belonged to them! And how do people percieve you? They think you're a racist fuck for accusing me of being in the NoA because I'm Mexican.
And what about people of color?
I know what they're thinking: "WTF is this craka thinking?"
So, Martyr Marry, I am so sorry to make you suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous racist slurs. Milk it as much as you can because who knows how long you can keep your sympathy votes. But I speak for so many people whom you've made very upset in the past that ultimately we were stronger than you for not being such great huge pink pussies like you. For we've endured your racially motivated bullshit and never have anyone of us have mentioned it.
And despite the fact that I rolled in deep shit,
I still come out smelling like a rose.
I'm still more accepted as a friend. Because my attitude is more inclusive. It's more, "Live-and-let live." I have friends who are Mormons, gay, Republican, female, male, White, Black, Arabic, Chilean, etcetra, etcetra, etcetra...
And you... you're still hated.
Like I said, I wish I could say it's charisma but I aint sly. I'm honest. And I made an honest mistake by calling you half terrorist. I was uber-pist, and they forgave me because I hardly lose my cool.
But people see you as an intolerent cunt. (And man, how am I still getting the many kudos via PM's.)
And also... it's good to remember that I did the ultimate act of friendship by offering to adopt your unborn child as my own son or daughter.
And... that pretty much counteracts whatever racist statement I've said against you because... why would I be so nice to raise a quarter-arabic as my own son or daughter?

Well the mysteriousness of the online forum allows a person to vent what would normally be unacceptable social actions without repercussion (Freudian jargon). Of course people would not be this obviously harsh in a face to face environment, as the power relationship there would be far different and would not allow such assaults to occur (Foucault jargon). If anything, the lack of discipline for such dehumanization of the individual coupled with the anonymity of the attacker fuels the fire, creating a pseudo-realm of "State" sponsored violence.
If these boards were to adopt a stricter approach to such social interactions the "State" would be further able to monopolize violence and would enable more stability (multi-authors).
Simply put:
The reason it occurs is because there is no punishment to curtail the behavior. Moreover, the popularity one gains through such actions of insulting others creates a reward by which the behavior will only be reinforced and occur more frequently by said user.
Solution:
Ban personal attacks and major use of swearing and the problem will cease (along with about half the fun though....).
Maybe better solution:
Stricter rules on staying on topic. Hand out bans for repeated infractions, which would at least curtail direct flame wars and keep the flames somewhat related to the overall debate. Plus, there would be less grudge matches, as "spill-over" flame wars from other threads would be considered "off-topic" and thus a banable offense.
Of course, we always reserve option #3: Status Quo.

Dude, you have obviously never talked politics outside of these forums or you have talked it with people who have nearly the same views. I generally tend not to try to even begin to talk politics with people because generally people my age are retarted (for instance, I got called a right wing fascist by a friend of a friend when I argued with him that the WTC was not felled by the government. He realy liked Loose Change. I exploded on him and was four seconds away from whooping his ass. Luckily he sulked off to smoke a joint or I would have). Most people are just not capable of holding rational debates, probably includes me, because often we have to much personally vested in the result. Like I explode on Begoner when he insults our troops because I have friends over there, good friends. I cant stand to see assholes insult them, it hits to close to home for me to stand.
To make it short, people get heated talking politics and take it real seriously. That why I dont bother with it outside of here. Which is sad because I agree with Montaigne that the best conversation is not the mindless jabber we engage in almost 24/7 but the intellectual debate between friends. Sad to say, but most dont care to bother with anything intellectual nowadays or anything that would cause people to think for themselves. For shame.

Dude, you have obviously never talked politics outside of these forums or you have talked it with people who have nearly the same views.
U of M offers lots of controlled environments for exactly the kind of debate you seek. Hence my emphasis on "academic" debating.
In fact just yesterday I had a 3 hour debate about "the Dirty War" in Argentina, and the use of state sponsored political violence.....
Not once did I want to punch the professor or a fellow student.....
Most people are just not capable of holding rational debates, probably includes me, because often we have to much personally vested in the result
I think it has more to do with the setting. Had you been debating Loose Change in a classroom, I highly doubt you would have exploded, regardless of your personal feelings. The heightened power of situation would have curtailed that behavior.
To make it short, people get heated talking politics and take it real seriously.
Only if allowed to do so. ;)
Sad to say, but most dont care to bother with anything intellectual nowadays or anything that would cause people to think for themselves.
Unfortunately I DO agree with you here. I think the biggest problem is that people don't understand that debate is not all about the 'win", it's about making the other person understand your viewpoint. There's two ways to win, one that is substantially more effective. One is to prove your side, the other is to get the other side to prove your side. If neither side is willing to listen to the other though, it becomes a stalemate. Hence the reason flame wars can last 100 pgs.
I'll praise the Heathenry thread one more time, as a way of showing how a debate SHOULD be. Rav is agnostic, I'm Roman Catholic. There is no flame war, and yet we've got a lot of content there. It's the ability to accept and understand the other's rational that creates such an environment, regarldess of what we believe.
Hence the reason why that conversation is not about convincing whether there is/is not a god, but is about specific parts of religion/theology, and the constitution of a "religious experience" (specifically music, miralces).

Impugn (im-pyoon)
1. to challenge as false (another's statements, motives, etc.); cast doubt upon.
2. Archaic. to assail (a person) by words or arguments; vilify.
3. Obsolete. to attack (a person) physically.

Your probably right, its just I dont ever bother much to try to do stuff in school. Probably should get involved in something that would allow me to do stuff like that but I would probably rather spend that time playing b ball or video games or being with friends. Maybe when Im off my break I will try all that.

I tried to bleach my hair a long time ago.
Little did I know back then it is that it's impossible to bleach pure black hair to a near shade of off platinum WITHOUT turning it orange or having it break at every surface.
Sigh--
I was trying for the "Sickboy" look from Trainspotting.
But after I went to a saloon...
I looked like Freddy Prinze Jr. from Scooby Doo. My friends who I used to work with the bank wouldn't let me live it down until I quite the bank. I had to hear once a week, "Freddy."

Wow, i completely forgot why i wanted to post in here.
for one of my classes we need to do this ethnography...i guess we're studying some sub-culture or whatnot. i thought it would be sort of cool to study my own sub-culture. the whole Internet forum/flash artist sub-culture. I need some reasonably intelligent people to respond ot a few of my questions and provide their own opinions.
I'm not a flash artist myself, being underfunded and unusually poor at art, so i may start dicking around with Flash at my schools and a few pointers would be nice to getting started with that.
My teacher has a pretty negative opinion on the whole internet culture that is growing from things like myspace and AIM, but what i've found here at NGBBS and some other forums is a much more well rounded group of users, which i think portrays those who truly are members of the internet sub-culture. This is a huge project and i'm going to be doing it for about a month - I'll have surveys and interviews (dear god i may need to talk to some of the more popular general posters). all information i get from any single individual will be anonymous unless i get consent and is purely for an educational purpose.
if any of you guys would like to help me out a little bit, i would greatly appreciate it. just send me a PM or something and I'll try to contact you when i get things started.
