Considering the fact that I've never gotten one in three years here, I'd have to say that, "no, it's not automatically sent out."

Live it up, wanker. You'll die a cold, lonely death. =]

I was skimming through a book I had to read for a game theory-related class and I saw it mentioned Borda voting in the introduction. I figured that, since we're posting in the politics section of the BBS, it would be neat to experiment with an alternative voting system rather than to simply go with majority winners like we did last year. Let's say we have three surviving nominees for the "President / Best Poster" category, Dranigus, Penal-Disturbance and goozebump. If we had the following results we'd have a draw between Dranigus and Penal-Disturbance:

Poster 1: Dranigus
Poster 2: Dranigus
Poster 3: Dranigus
Poster 4: Penal-Disturbance
Poster 5: Penal-Disturbance
Poster 6: Penal-Disturbance
Poster 7: goozebump

But if everybody stated a preferential ordering and we'd award one point to the least prefered candidate, 2 to the one in the middle and 3 to the poster's favourite, and if we'd elect the one with the highest number of points as the Borda winner, then Dranigus would win the election (Dranigus - 15, Penal-Disturbance - 14, goozebump - 12) :

Poster 1: Dranigus, goozebump, Penal-Disturbance
Poster 2: Dranigus, Penal-Disturbance, goozebump
Poster 3: Dranigus, goozebump, Penal-Disturbance
Poster 4: Penal-Disturbance, Dranigus, goozebump
Poster 5: Penal-Disturbance, Dranigus, goozebump
Poster 6: Penal-Disturbance, goozebump, Dranigus
Poster 7: goozebump, Dranigus, Penal-Disturbance

We could elect the majority winner, unless there's a draw in which case we'd pick the Borda winner. Alternatively, we could go with the Borda winner and pick the majority winner in case of a draw. In both cases a draw (like we saw in the "Best Dressed / Groomed" category of last year's awards thread) would be less likely. The latter method takes more information about the elector's preferences into account than just his most favourite and Naura and Kiribati have already implemented this voting system (oh yeah).

We could also go with something like Range Voting but it's said to be very vulnerable to strategic voting and it might make the voting procedure overly complicated (although if I understand correctly partial votes, such as 1/2 vote for him and 1/2 vote for her, were accepted in the 2004 awards). Then again, a voting system that requires a degree in Mathematics to comprehend would perfectly show that we're more pretentious than the General board.

So .... what do you think? Fun experiment or unnecessary chore?

Naw, the USPS is where it's at. Don't have that shit-brown color scheme.

Man, what did I make? I think I was making $12 an hour as a clerk. Sorting mail and packages, stuffing PO boxes, etc. Plus I always got a few hours of overtime a week. Man, it was a shitty job but it paid well and physical to boot.

I'm thinking about reapplying after graduation, being a letter carrier this time around. I think starting pay is in the $16-18 range, and ya get great benefits. Still be able to freelance on the side.

How did you do that?

Noob. =D

How do you get this type of job.

Did you do it in College.

Do you need any type of training.

My father worked at the same Post Office. Now that I have experience I could probably get hired at most anywhere they're hiring. But an "in" is definitely needed because it's such a gravy job for requiring nothing more than a high school diploma. Also, if you ever serve in the military than you've pretty much guaranteed a supervisor position too.

I did it two summers ago for a couple months. Business at these places ramps up in the second half of the year, so they start hiring more seasonal sorts of people by the end of the summer (when the holiday catalogs start going out). But the office I worked was totally understaffed. I ended up working six days a week and was pretty much THE clerk during most of the day. I received virtually no training because I was just there for a few months. There were three of us there just for the summer. We were told to follow around someone else for a day, and then were pretty much on ourselves. Needless to say, mistakes were made. =P

I worked from 7am to 6pm with a huge lunch break thrown in so I wouldn't get too many hours... But anyone who was here back then probably heard enough moaning + groaning, so I'll end with that. =P

What I want to know is what a "driver's helper" does at UPS. Is it as obvious as it sounds? Just sort shit? I've never seen any little helpers with the UPS vans.. Maybe just a seasonal thing tho.

SevenSeize, I had the exact same thing happen once when I had Launchcast open. I had to remove the Verizon Launchcast application from my comp, though, since it posed a security risk. Pity.

BTW, I'm curious--whereabouts in Louisiana do you live? My sweetie lives in Kenner.

Playground monitors deserve combat pay. That's all I'll say on the matter, anything more and I'll start sounding mean.

I got home this evening, and my Mom told me that they were going to have Dr. Oz on Oprah tomorrow (which I will miss, due to work), and said the tag for tomorrow's program was the good doctor saying "MEN: Lose 35 pounds and gain 1 inch in penis length!" Then she wondered aloud why that was... my Dad made some crude remark about belly fat and eyed me like I was going to back him up or something. After he did't get the response he wanted, he started arching his eyebrows at my mom.

Her response to his crudeness; "Face it, honey, if you lost 70 pounds now you'd dry up and blow away." ;-D

Me; 5'11", 330 pounds. (I have a large frame, so I look about 50 pounds lighter than I actually am, but I'm working on it).

Dad; 6 foot even, 190 pounds. He wore 28x32 pants when he met my mom, now he thinks he's "fat" because he wears 34x32 and has a small pot belly, never mind that he'll be 50 in March.

lol...Well, Fli has both of us beat....

I don't do that sort of thing...
I'm noticing I'm filling out my shirts so that's when I go insane aerobic.

But at one point, I used to run 10 miles per day 5 days a week when I used to wrestle in high school. Man, they were brutal...

my friend Palamino even went to the Olympics...

I know I have a pic of me in my gear... my girlfriend (I had girlfriends at that time...) was the one that took my pictures. When we broke up, she kept them. When she found out who I was, she burned all the stuff that reminded of me (as I was told by my old friend... you know... post high school gossip) and so I'm pretty sure all my pics of me in my gear are gone... up in smoke.

I could of sworn I saw one single negative of me posing and I was gonna scan it, but I got distracted and now it's misplaced again.

*sigh*

I'm feeling less bitchey right now-- got to watch Rampo Noir and MAN-- that's fucked up stuff ala David Firfth. J-Horror, but not really... I'm so getting this for Christmas.

BTW-- you have a beautiful smile.
I think only certain women can find that good shade of red.
That's yours alright.
