In the name of peace keeping, let's talk about the superbowl. My father and I have made a novel bet that whoever's team losses he has to buy the others powerball ticket, making it unlikely as fuck but possibly that we are infact betting hundreds of millions

I bet my old man an all-you-can-eat crab leg dinner that Seattle would win. He thought Seattle had the better team, but that Cowher's ability to motivate his team under pressure would be enough to close the deficit. Then again, Holmgren has been to the bowl before, and won. If I win I'll invite all my newgrounds friends to a kegger at my new large house. I'll make it a point to stock seafood for you

Remind me to invite befell to the kegger. With all that money I'll need conservative financial advice. Plus there's a possiblity grace could get drunk enough to do one of us if half of us aren't busy being her big brother. It's fucked up we only have those two settings with women. Yes I've been drinking

I'm starting to write poetry in Spanish...
Much more challenging for me.

Anyways, my first Spanish poem.

De la vista nace el amor,
Por los ojos se busca
Lo que complacerá al corazón.
Los ojos dan la bienvenida al amor
Que a nacido del corazón.

*stumbles in* One for the thumb! *THUD* Yeah, I'm buzzed.

I didn't walk through the snow like I said I might. Despite the raging blizzard outside, my friend drove me. School will probably be delayed or cancelled anyway, since it's so bad. Which is fine, because everyone will be hung over.

I live in Northwestern PA. Do the math. :D

Nice, I think Spanish poetry is easier than english because Spanish is a much more richer language. You really have to struggle to get things flowing in english. If I may make a suggestion, look to Pablo Neruda for some inspiration.

So... why didn't we meet dude? I know I didn't give you the wrong number bro. I was checking my cell frequently all that day to see if I might've missed your call. Que paso?

We're going to TJ... I was going to write an email... but might as well tell you here.

I really have difficulty with Spanish poetry because I guess many symbols don't make sense. I don't know why, but when I write in Spanish, "My heart is on fire..."

People actually believe that my heart is engulfed in fire.

Yes, the language is rich because of the rolling R's and the ease of making rhymes... but I still have difficulty with Spanish poetry.

Now Spanglish I can do. I can more or less mimick Miguel Pinero's brand of Spanish, English, and both of the cultural slang. (Read
A Lower East Side Poem )

I also like playing with iambic pentameter, and that's really hard for me in Spanish. So many words with 3 or 4 syllables and putting the stress and unstress to them is just Hell for me.

So whenever I write in Spanish, it's always in free verse. (Just like you saw up there...

Ah crap.......5 years of Spanish classes, here goes......

Of (from?) the view sprouts my love,
For my eyes search,
That which pleases the heart.
The eyes give welcome to the love
That was born of the heart.

I tried to translate with more "flowery" english translations (like sprouts instead of born for nacer). Hopefully I didn't muck up your beautiful poem too much Fli.....

Very well done sir!

Well... it's very close. Here the thing with me: Think English, Write Spanish. That's given me a lot of problems... One time I said to my cousins, "I love your shoes." They looked at me weird... (Cause they literally believed that I loved their shoes).

Anyways... when I wrote it, the poem in English was like this (more or less... I can't remember now.):

From the eyes love is born,
For the eyes looks
what pleases the heart.
The eyes gives welcomes love,
That is born in the heart.

There are certain rules and symbols in spanish which add or take away from the rythm of rhymes. Such is the sinalefa, dieresis, and sineresis. Look them up if you don't know about them, they could aid you in composing Spanish poetry.

Fli, don't take this as me patronizing you, but this is what my spanish teacher told me; translated directly into english, much of spanish reads/sounds like the Old King James translation of the Bible. Old English as it were. So perhaps that may help you out with your writings...

*sigh*

I'm writing congress and demanding that they declare last night's Superbowl Half Time show as violating the 8th amendment. It. Was. AWFULL.

It was the Rolling Stones, and if I had my way the company that produced the show would never work in the US ever again. None of the monitors were on, nobody's backup vocal mikes were on until halfway through the second song, the keyboardist couldn't be heard... the list just goes on and on.

Halfway through the second song, I was on the floor in the fetal position going "I AM THE LINDBURG BABY!!! I'll tell you whatever you want just turn it off!!!"

Don't worry, you won't get nearly as much abuse as I will when I say the Daytona 500 is much more thrilling to watch than the Super Bowl.

I read on accuweather.com that the commercials aired during the Super Bowl will cost consumers $150 million. If you figure around 60,000,000 households watched the game, that cost to consumers would be similiar to if they charged $2.50 PPV.
