If you weren't constantly high on excessive oxygen, then you'd realize where you are, and cry yourself to sleep every night. The Adirondacks are for weekend camping trips. People don't live there. You're mad, mad I tell you!

this place is pretty boring, but being near Lake Placid helps. I can pick up ice skating, bob sledding, louge, skeleton, biatholon, back-country touring in the winter. swimming, ski jumping, mountain biking, hiking, etc.. at any other time (the ski jumps go into pools in the summer, it's cool).

lake placid has its advantages...and since i work at a summer camp next to titus mountain, i also know where to go for night skiing. we're only an hour and a half south on the northway from montreal, an hour from plattsburgh, an two hour drive in the winter to burlington. hour and a half from albany. we go to a lot of places to avoid this place...but never have i heard of going to ithaca for fun....

My one grandmother grew up near Lake Placid, we scattered her ashes in some backwards town 'round there, where she and my grandfather were married.
Ithaca is just a midway point. After school I'm going in one of two extremes -- either moving back to Vermont, or heading down to the city. I need to drive a cab in NYC for a decade or so to get the creative juices flowing for my great American novel. I think. =)

this is my starting point, from here i'm getting the fuck to either the rockies in canada or colorado...or spending some education in potsdam, NY. i'm going on a six month backpacking trip through euorpe next fall and winter...deffering is a wonderful thing.

indeed, i do both.

in instruct at a nearby mountain (whiteface if you've ever heard of it...doubt it though).

i work with the little kids with skiing and snowboarding. all that fun jazz.

i began alpine skiing at the age of 3, dad took me to whiteface and began teaching me...and i've been skiing every season since, this is going into my 16th season of skiing.

i began snowboarding when i was 12. i asked for a snowboard for christmas, got a very cheap little liquid board (i still love that thing, its nearly indestructable). i taught myself.

when i was 13 i began volunteering, shadowing lessons, improved my abilities greatly, after three years i was 16 and able to become an instructor.

this season i plan on getting certified in PSIA/AASI in hopefully both skiing in snowboarding, level 1. i mean, technically i'm already a mumber, i registered and paid the fee and got the nifty little pin...but it doesnt really count twill you're certified level 1

kids do learn faster then adults

but my mountain began this program for adults called paralell from the start. it gets you started skiing with snow blades (refer to picture below) these go much slower and are way easier to handle then acatual alpine skis. They start you out getting the basic skiing technique down, but instead of learning a wedge, they begin with paralell, much easeir with the blades.

a few other resorts have used a program like this.

they have some weird garuntee that you would be at a certain level on the blades or you get free lessons till you get to that level

It's really depressing when you look at how many things you need to start at 3 to be any good at

no way man, i was barely an intermediate skier when i began volunteering at the mountain. but practicing every weekend and shadowing all of those lessons as well as professional clinics made my skiing abilities sky rocket in only a season. and now i'm a very good skier.

i had only been snowboarding since i was 12 and i'm a very good rider now.

it just takes dedication a willingness to learn and a little love for the sport

Yeah. in the end, I never learned how to play guitar. Apparently Kurt Cobain learnt at 14, but I couldn't learn at 15 :(

A friend of mine was playing guitar before he could even remember and now he's one of the most sought-after guitar players in the 16-20 age division of the La Serena/Coquimbo speed-metal scene. Fuck'im and his 215 notes in a minute.

Also, one more thing, just to make sure: You U.S. people also get those millions of "Get your Green card Now!" ads, right?

I'm getting one right as I type this. I'd say 1 out of every 5 ads I get on NG are "Get a GreenCard!" crap. I don't know why they bother, though. Us chileans don't emigrate to the US. We're pimpin' emigrants. We go to either Sweden, Holland or Spain. And then we set up house-burglary rings and get rich.

Real story.

then again i'm not exactly "normal"..i try most anything just for kicks despite what i felt about it before

It just occured to me that I can deep fry my burrito instead of microwaving it. Remember kids when (if) you get married a high quality deep frier should be the first last and only thing on your registry because only about 3 people will shop off of it anyways.
