New mods tend to be noticed more when they ban or take any such modly actions. People construe it as you being a hardass and judge according to that perception. Also sometimes people who are just modded get a little over zealous about "protecting the bbs".

for a while they have been saying suicide and depression shoot up during the christmas/newyears time of year...i dont think it has anythign to do with the holidays and lonliness...i think its just the sheer fact that college all have semester finals around that time.
