OMG! It's snowing! It's just real light, and it's not sticking, but it's snow none the less. We're under a winter weather advisory. I don't ever remember it snowing this early in the year here.

So Minnesota's been getting hit with snow constantly for 24 hours now. There's a foot built-up on my car, and roads suck. The worst part? I went to open my window, and lo, snow decided to plummet of the roof and blow into my room. I've got a good shovel-full of powder peppered over the floor. I never thought cleaning up snow would be so tough :/

I like snow, but I guess it's only for the novelty of it. Here in Atlanta, we get a significant snowfall maybe once like every other year.

I have a feeling though, that if I had to deal with feet of snow and bitter cold like you Minnesotans do, I don't think I'd like it so much. I remember Superstorm '93, we had a foot of snow in our yard and winds up to 45 mph. It was such a violent snowstorm that we had thundersnow--it was lightning and snowing at the same time. Other places had it too. It was pretty spectacular to watch, though it was a mess afterwards.

I like that pic too . . . just something about having the dewpoint exactly at freezing, 100% humidity, and a nice little lightning and snow icons overlapping.

It's usually the sloppy wet snow. It very seldom stays on the ground for more than a day. In fact, we usually get more ice storms than snow storms. There's a pretty good one gearing up tonight into tomorrow, but it looks like we'll miss anything real inconvenient. Though last winter, we got an inch of ice accumulation, knocking power out for a day and a half. The picture below was how thick it was on a bridge near my house.

Oh, it was. When the lightning reflected off the ground and snowflakes, it was like the air was filled up with white hot sparks. It was awesome to watch.

Wow, that's gotta suck. Up er' in Edmonton, the weather is actually not all that bad. The grass is showing in fair patchs, and it's not all that cold yet (could go easily without a hat/touque).

That bridge ice is nasty stuff. My old man used to with the DOT on a bridge crew, and his words of wisdom were" always beware of bridges, especially in the winter. The temperature of the cement is usually above 10-15 degrees colder than the rest of the roads, making it a haven for ice" .... or something like that.

The other big road problem is at stoplights; cars idle waiting for green, while their exhausts accumulates and freezes clear on the road.
