HAHA, you're all just now learning that New Orleans is as corrupt as a dead prostitute's vagina BEFORE the flood.
I knew a guy who drove down to Mardi Gras, and had his van mobbed by crackheads. They stole everything in the van (guitars, amps, radio, everything) and then held his pet ferret hostage. WTF is that?
THOSE are the kind of people that were in the Superdome. Do you think anyone who would hold a ferret hostage for crack would straighten up just because of a little flooding in New Orleans, the city that SINKS 1 inch every year? I know sure as hell that kind of person doesn't have any friends that would give them a ride out of the city in a hurricane.
Do you get it? The kind of people in the Superdome were the kind of people that didn't have a single friend that liked them enough to give them a ride out of town, let alone the kind of people could hold steady jobs and afford their own cars.
I mean, I understand about the sick and elderly, but why what kind of fucked up logic should a grown man be there? Hitching a ride out of town isn't rocket science, you know. There was a fucking caravan leading out of the city for crying out loud!

lol.
My best story in New Orleans was when my parents and I were walking along, and this guy comes up out of the blue and offers us this huge chunk of hash. Not as good as having my ferret held hostage, but it was something at the time.

Done and done. And what an intellectually stimulating conversation arose from that.
As far as the whole New Orleans goes, I'm not saying I'm glad it happened, but if it had to have happened anywhere in the US, New Orleans would have been my pick.

But it certainly doesn't make it any easier to get help. I'm not saying that they are completely blocking help, I'm claiming that they're making it too hard to give, too hard to recieve.

Didn't think I should post this in that thread, so I thought here would be more courteous.

I'd like to raise my IQ with any reg here. I think it would be interesting to see how some of the people here play chess, if it would reflect anything of their posting/debating habits.
Any takers are more than welcome; I play either yahoo chess or pogo.com chess (preferred). Thanks :)

My best New Orleans story is when I was standing outside of this souvenir/joke/sex shop waiting for my dad and his assistants to get out (it was like an office vacation/seminar), I was just wearing a modest tank top and some jeans, and this arab guy walks past me and shouts something in whatever language. It had a lot of hacking, like HHHHHHHHHGUAH HHHHEE! My dad got so pissed he was like "if I had been there I would have popped him in the face! You probably excited his lust and so he yelled at you for being an evil temptress woman. You should have said 'fuck you'..." etc. He got really pissed. It was amusing.
But I agree with funk. Not only were the citizens corrupt as all get out, the govermnent was just as bad if not worse than Chicago. If they had had the mob running things like Vegas has, they'd have the citizens in CHECK.

I HAVE been playing around with the idea of investing in property in New Orleans... This idea intrigues me greatly. I'm going to need some Italians and some Cubans, stat.

I didn't go during Mardi Gras. In fact, I tend to avoid places where huge numbers of stupid people are gathered, which is why I stay off the strip during New Years.

He can make sigs, just not put them on NG. Because a certain mod, who will not be named, sucks.

Yeah, they got an injunction against me.
Nah, I can still make them, but if I can't continue to make people angry, there's not a WHOLE lot of a point to it.
I never did get around to making my Jeff Weise sig. That would have been great.

I feel so proud...
Some know that I really like gardening. But I haven't really told you that I like to hybridize my own plants.
And so last year I crossed two tomatoes. One was yellow. The other was red.
And this year I raised a red tomato with yellow freckles.
The feeling is awesome...

Well, these specific ones won't be eaten.
I'm saving the seeds to see if I'm able to make an evenly stripped tomato in the future...
Anyways,
Yeah-- tomatoes aren't the only type of plants I hybridize. I also play with corn, roses and beans.
Before I did English at Santa Clara University, I wanted to do Horticulture at Texas A&M University. But after a while, I just didn't want to do anything with Texas (because of political reasons).
But I still play.
Here's a picture of a rose that I hybridized last year. Single petaled, very unlike the florist roses at stores.

You couldn't get Zukini?
My God! That like one of those plants where even neighbors lock their door and duck on the foor, so that you don't bring anymore extra Zukinis...
Well,
I believe that pollination isn't taking place. I don't know why, the wind and bees are good enough. But if that is the case, take your pinky finger and rub some pollen on it. And pollinate the other Zukinis. (The females have the little 'bulb' behind the flower, while the males lack this.)
Well if you aren't getting Zukini,
Eat the flowers. They taste very good in quesodillas.
Any squash (including pumpkins) have edible flowers. Just put it in salads...
Pumpkin Flower Soup is one of those esquisite pleasures about Spring and Summer-- I don't know how to make it, but my mom does. I tried to do it this once, but man, it turned out bad.
Even the flowers of garden beans are edible. They're sweet and a little beanish.

Fli, you are quite the gardener. I can't say I've ever had much gardening experience growing up. My mother had something of a black thumb when it came to caring for plants. Sounds like you have quite a bit of expertise.

I know in Ohio, during the summer and autumn, people lock their car doors to avoid having their backseat filled with zucchini.
I've eaten so much sauteed zucchini, I want to never see it again.
Those tomatoes are nice looking. Are they Romas? I've played around with Heirlooms and Grape tomatoes. Also, had an interesting potato/tomato hybrid at my old house. Tiny potatos, and cherry tomatos, all edible. All on the same plant.
The rose is gorgeous. I don't have the patience to deal with roses, so kudos. :)
