Eeeh. In that case, we're probably the ones with the least holidays in the Southern Hemisphere--- But we're the ones who produce the less in comparison to how much we work, so I guess we can't really complain.

Also, the first labour demonstrations, such as parades, started up in Canada in 1872, with the Americans following a few years later.
As I recall though, it was the Americans who first made it into a day.

Oh no, don't tell me the Americans are trying to pass off labour day as theirs too... is there NOTHING they won't claim they invented?!?!?!
And to think, they even had me brainwashed... *sigh*

so? the canadian national anthem was written by a quebecen, and a US military officer for some giant trading kegger in quebec. long long ago.

leave it to the US to waste an entire day for getting drunk.
which reminds me of a great quote
"give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour. teach a man to brew and he'll waste a lifetime"
it was on a sign of the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery. it apparently was awarded best brewery in the US or soemthing special. they have good chicken sandwiches

I'm back from Florida. We decided to drive back since my grandmother gave my mom her car during our visit. We stayed about 75 to 100 miles from the coast in order to avoid the hurricane damage.
Going through Mississippi and Louisianna, one thing is clear, there is definately a gasoline shortage there. Seriously, if any of you need to drive through either state, fill up when you get down to half a tank and definately don't get caught after dark. We were driving through both those states at about 11:30 last night and there was not a drop of gas to be found in Mississippi and we found one tiny run-down place in a pretty run-down town outside of Shreveport, LA that had some gas, all the places around it didn't. We were told by any gas station clerk we asked that they were going to get gas delivered in the morning. We're talking dozens upon dozens of gas stations that were completely out of gas after 11 and probably earlier. The pumps were roped off, bagged, or barricaded with trash cans to let people know that there was no gas. It was insane.
Think you're pretty clever...

I didn't even know they were a band until about a week or two ago... I was just reading Guitar World last summer, when they showed up in the little pullout-poster section.
Is it to early to be thinking about Halloween outfits?

Well, some people are dependant on their jobs. Losing it would just mean she would have to find another, and that's not always easy.

At Costco, we've had Halloween costumes on the floor for about a month or two now. Then again, Costco if fucked up.
I had an idea about two years ago to invest in a cheap gas mask, and to wear it with my double-breasted suit with my black gloves and head out to a party lookin like one of the Merrovingian's henchmen from the Matrix series, but I couldn't find a cheap one that would look kick-ass.
Haven't dressed up in years, but Halloween has been, and always will be my favorite holiday.

Notifying the labor department would only result in the boss' ass getting kicked and/or fined. If he turned around and fired Fli's mother for Fli's quite legal actions, you've got a wrongfull termination suit on your hands. And my money is on Fli's momma winning that suit if it goes that far...

I'm planning on going as Mankind for a halloween costume contest at school... I can get the rest of the outfit easily, I'm just looking for a good mask.

In normal circumstances, yes, but it depends what position Fli's mother is in, what the job is, any other legal issues. If her boss loses whatever business he's running, there may not necessarily be someone to replace his position, thus, the whole company collapses and Fli's mom loses her job reguardless.
Oh well, that's something for Fli and his mother to decide.

Prizes? And if so, do you have to actually go to the school to win?

Oh, so you're fat then. Haha, fatty.
If you can't find a mask, make it yourself. One or two leather belts and something to stik them together should be enough.
Also, Americans don't celebrate Labo(u)r Day on May 1st AS CIVILIZED COUNTRIES ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, so that means you're all nuts.
