Anyways, here's the dragon bracelet v2.0 (the first was made out of crappy leather)

This one was hard as hell to dye, so I might keep it.

That looks bad ass. Almost too good to wear. You sure you want it?

No--
It's really sweet...

And BeFell has a point.
Leather is a big industry (my bull-jacking uncle sells hides).

Costumized bracelets appeal a great deal of young people... who don't work.
Costumized wedding portrait books, bibles, frames, etc... while hard to get a consistant sale, will very much likely get you more profits.

I would definetly start making very cute feminine belts and sell them to a store (upper class place, you know... girls buying all sort of cute purses and stuff place). Depending if-- it has appeal to them. I'm talking like Express for Men places...

And men-- well, there are wallets, but I've noticed that lots of guys don't like leather wallets anymore. They prefere the "funky" types made of synthetic fabric.

Funk,
Just go around looking at stores and then you could get some ideas...
BTW,

check out a few Celtic designing books. They provide a lot of ideas, and they show you how to draw other things too.

At 8/7/05 08:30 PM, BeFell wrote: Hey Funk as fun as your plan sounds I think there might be a better way to make money doing custom leather work. While bracelets are fun you're not exactly targeting the people with the money. Take one of my favorite wedding gifts as an example to really clean up in the leather industry... is it an industry?

I've done stuff like that before, coin purses, cigarette cases, etc. I actually designed a rather nifty little coinpurse with a reinforced bottom, as well as a couple of custom knife sheaths. I might even post pictures later.

Bracelets were actually a move away from the "flowers and vines" motif that most leatherwork is based on. I've given away most of my decent stuff though; that's the nature of the hobby. I understand how celtic knots are supposed to work, and why the have the visual appeal they do. I don't "get" the flowered motifs as much, so I have a harder time getting a satisfied feeling from making them. I'm slowly working my way into a snakes, monsters, and skulls style that I find a bit more visually appealing.

However, I could certainly see how custom leather bible covers/harem photo albums could make me a ton of dough in Mormonistan. The same could be said for knife sheaths and gun holsters around here.

Right now I'm mainly focused on the design aspect and getting designs to work with a piece. Bracelets are really just tiny belts, and studded and tooled belts are going to be in fashion for a LONG time.

BTW, I gave away the dragon bracelet to one of my apprentices at church. I'm making a design of 4 twisted snakes right now. The tooling's finished, and I'll dye it after work tommorrow.

That reminds me of that thread Dobio started that was basically the same thing, that Wade shut down with a "What is this shit? The topic starter has been banned and I don't want to see the forum mods participating in anything like this again."

Ooops.

But to ban people?
That's abusive-- hopefully they did the right thing and unbanned people.

Well, while both this and Dobio's topic is pointless (Mod forum?), RedCircle posted at the very beginning of the post that anybody who posts would be banned--it's not like they didn't know.

It's almost as sad as people who post in a topic that's obviously spam, then get banned, then go complaining about how the mods are such tyrants.

I'm supposed to be asleep right now. I'm heading out of town this morning for a little overnight trip. Isn't it funny how, when you need sleep the most, before a long day of driving or working or something really important, you never can get it?

It was supposed to be a 3 day, 2 night trip, too, but some jackass that doesn't know how to operate a motor vehicle rammed my car in a parking lot, knocking the right front headlight housing loose and putting a dent in it.

They drove off without leaving insurance info, contact info, anything. Now I'm going to have to pay up to $500 (my insurance deductible) to have it fixed.

I just hope it did a lot more damage to their car than it did mine, hopefully something that will affect the engine or something.

RedCircle is an asshole through and through.

Oh, that's cool then.

I thought they were banned 3 days. You know, the normal protocal...

Anyways.
Folks, very important news;

THUNDER CATS IS BEING RELEASED ON DVD--
I'm so gonna get it on my birthday this September...

As a kid,
I never really got to watch it. Because the school bus always came right in the middle of the episode. I wanted so desperatly to watch at least on whole episode.

In other news,
He-Man is out already. I'm getting it through Amazon.com as we speak.

And I mean the old school He-Man, not the crappy remake on Cartoon Network.

Ah,
childhood pleasures that I could have as a kid.

I remember when Joe and Bob made a thread where they were banning everyone who posted in it for every little minor infraction that might have broken the BBS rules. It was basically to show people that mods can be much much worse than they already are, so people should quit their bitching. I thought it was an amusing and clever way to get their point across. Also, everyone was unbanned after about 15 minutes. :D

He-Man started out as action figures, and then became a smash hit cartoon in the 80's. I watched it faithfully every afternoon after school.
