Elizabeth Smart has been found

Wow.

This teenage girl is VERY, VEEEERRRRRRY fuckin' lucky to have even lived through her ordeal. If you think about it, she was very lucky that she was kept alive for so long considering the fact that her kidnapper was willing to kidnap her at gunpoint.

I think it's great that she's back safe, but I also don't think that she should be getting the attention she's been receiving, especially from the media.

Someone named Robert had posted the following message on a website which I stumbled upon and I fully agree with how he felt about the situation back on 6/7/02 a few days after the news of Elizabeth Smart's kidnapping had been reported to the media.

According to the US government, in 2001, 840,279 people went missing last year... out of those cases, 725,000 are children. That's basically 2,000 children per day that go missing in the United States. What's wrong with this picture here? How come we don't hear about the 2,000 children that go missing each day? Are they not important too?

Why do we care so much about Elizabeth Smart? Why does the media in the US care so much about her? Is it because she's white? Her parents are wealthy? She lives in a good neighborhood? She's a good Mormon girl? What's wrong with this picture? Why doesn't anyone give a damn about anyone else that goes missing? We're all human beings here, shouldn't we care equally about those that go missing, or is it that we're all so judgmental about other people, that if they don't meet the right criteria, nobody will care?

Don't get me wrong, this is a terrible situation. I hope that Elizabeth Smart is returned to her parents unharmed, but just realize that there are a whole bunch of other people out there that deserve every bit of attention that she's getting.

So many things could have happened to her and I'm sure many things did happen to her. Luckily she's been given another shot at life. Let's hope she grows up to become a person that makes a difference in society as opposed to becoming just another parasite that has no passion for anything all while letting their life waste away.

(this is responding the to the first few posts) ya, that girl is incredibly lucky....they say that less than 2% of cases of abducted children actually end in the child being found alive.
and to me the abducter looks like he's been livin on a desert island for a few years....
