That was really just something to fuck with the fans heads. It's impossible. Kentucky is NOT on the coast, Springfield is. Kentucky is NOWHERE near a desert or a gorge, Springfield is. The coast and the gorge/badlands are two of the few consistencies of Springfiel geography.

But in that one episode (I really wish I remember it now) krusty says "were going south of the border" and then somebody says back "you mean tennesee" and kentucky is above tennesee.
