US seems totally don't give a damn on UN anymore. US is going to war even when veto to against the war is applied. IS US is going to stop funding the UN?

I hope so. The UN is a waste of midtown real estate and they sure as hell have no clue how to park!

The United States wouldn't leave an organization it practially created. Besides, we're the backbone of it anyway. You think Bulgaria is going to be able to hold its own without the United States poking it in the back?

I don't think the US will leave the UN anytime soon. It would be a major loss of face, as well as an admission that diplomacy doesn't work for us. The UN may disagree with the US on many issues, but that's what it's there for. It is a forum in which countries may deliberate civilly. Japan left the League of Nations before WWII. I don't think that the US will like to give that signal.

League of Nations was a joke, though. But we rode that out until the very end, too.

Yeah, but we actually worked closely with the LoN in international affairs, like with limiting the battleship tonnage ratio for the world's leading fleets (In 1925 if I'm not mistaken).

Well, LoN was a joke, but it wasn't without its good points. Just like the UN is more of a figurehead than anything else. Blue helmets aren't very intimidating, and I've yet to see any of the UN 'police' ever fire a shot. But all in all, LoN and UN have both been productive and contributed to society.

i sometimes wonder. the UN is the breeding ground of tough talk with little follow through. it's basically a forum to see what every country thinks about anything in the world and to see if they'll do anything about it. and in most cases, they don't. or at least do anything to a great extent aside from "policing".

the only times it was affective was when the USSR left the UN and China was actually Taiwan and all decisions were made based on what the US thought was right. but then that brings up a whole new topic.

The United States gets most of the say because we have that "Well, if you're so good, why aren't you like us?" card to play. We're the superpower, so everyone will bend if we like the way something is going. Problem is, we're not always right.

Urm, actually America never joined the LoN. And they didn't sign the Treaty of Versailles, they signed one that didn't mean they had to join the LoN.

I don't see why the US would leave, they would have no way to protect Israel. The UN basically covers up the actions of the US.

Got any proof of that or is that just a deep seeded hatred of US that's been ingrained in you since childhood?

You have to understand that Terry is a pseudo-blowhard [you can take that anyway you want BTW]. And never ask Terry for "proof" either, she will only resort to asinine logical fallacies. To be frank, Eurotrash has no right to complain about America, considering that no one else has the backbone to enforce the will of the UN.

Well firstly an obvious point, the UN can not do anything that the USA disagress with. Ample evidence ( http://www.krysstal.com/democracy_whyusa03.html .) Now as for the cover, I'll take the current situation for instance. The issue was raised by the US, the US have moved hundreds of thousands of American troops to the borders of Iraq and it will be an American installed in the puppet regime afterwards. On this occasion, the first of its kind that I know of, countries have actually disagreed with the US plans. What will the US do? Well, from the noises that Bush has been making it seems they will go along without the UN if needs be, ie he was willing to use the UN to get his decision, it was the wrong one, so he'll go ahead without them, they were just cover.

Are you insinuating that the United States would so graciously enforce the will of the UN for the pure good of humanity? What a farce. The American foreign affairs agendy is basically the mass manipulation of world governments in order to secure and acquire natural and monetary resources. The European Union would do well without the Warmongering, Bloodthirsty beast the Bush administration will churn out in its term, or heaven forbid, terms.

I don't think the US will leave the UN any time soon, at least as long as the UN can maintain some semblance of importance in world affairs. Unfortunantly, that veneer of compotence and authority grows ever thinner. It is fast becoming the League of the United Nations.

Ah... nah... we'll never leave the UN... Not in my opinion.
And even though it is just a body of tough talk and no follow-through, it would be so funny, and perfect in t's irony if they kicked us out.

They more or less allready have, they claim they want it's directive and support, but really, all they want to do is prove that after they were denied UN approval of their idea, they went on to a decisive victory against the "axis of evil." Through doing this, they will prove that the UN is little more than a symbol that does very little really, making anyone who opposes the US in the future look like an idiot. And incidentally, the US did not practically create the UN, they joined WWI after it was 4/5 done, and didnt join WWII until 1942, about 4 years after it began, so really, the US wasnt interested in international organizations, such as the UN until they could use them to exploit for their own personal good
