Obversly when someone says the US, United states, america or the states we all no what country there talking about, but atually they could be talking about any country.
Mexico Are United states and there in America (United Mexico states)
So Mexico is really another United states of america. except it also has a proper name.
America could mean any country from south america, central america or north america. But the United states of america generally has adopted the name.

I still can't imagine someone saying:
''I went to America last month''
''Oh really? Where to?''
''Chile''
Although it means every country in SA and NA, i'm sure whoever you're talking knows what country you mean when you say US. It can differ with just plain America though.

But the USA isn’t technically a county.
Like the UK (There’s more than one United Kingdom in the world), / Britain (refers to the land mass, not the country) is a union of states.

But Scotland, Wales and England all are reall countrys, thats my point.
Were a Union of countries, america is a Union of states which makes up a country But the countrys name is not atually a very good one.
Mexico Is another United States of the Continent of america.

You have a point there actually. But people say New Mexico when there talkin' about the state most of the time. But then again your right, we could call it UMS or alska or something. I agree with you.

The US is a world superpower. We get to choose whatever name we want, and we're going to give common names to everyone else, too.
People aren't stupid. Common names have already been worked out for every single country. This isn't a politics issue, this isn't even an issue.

Umm... Mexico isn't a united states. Mexico is comprised of individual cities and not seperated mini-countries with their own gov't. Canada is made up of territories.

The United States of America is a unique name in itself. No one else is made up of united states, as i have already pointed out. Umbungo? What? Why not call cheese pears? It pertains to our continent. We are united states ON AMERICA.

The United States is usually refered to as "America" because the USA was the first independent country on the entire continent of North and South America since the Maya.
The US also is the highest profile in both continents (let alone the entire world). But what I think is funny, people are angry that Canada, Mexico, Brazil and other countries aren't usually considered America because they are overshadowed by the USA.
But the thing is, when some people around the world think "America" they think every white western country in the world, including UK, France, Germany and so forth. Also the reason alot of hatred is directed at "America" in this world is because everything Europe does is considered an act of "America" when Germany, France and the UK do something in the world, the world blames "America". Europe isn't even considered indepedent from America in most of the world.
When British soldiers were videotaped beating Iraqi children, the Muslim World called them "American soldiers from Britain". When France massacred innocent Africans in the Ivory Coast, people around the world called it "American imperialism".
Brits and Canadians who think their countries are more loved than the world are wrong. Its just that their countries are relatively insignificant without the US, and are reliant with the US to the point that they are considered to just be satellites of the US.
How does that make you feel about your fragile British and Canadian pride??? You are so pathetic in comparison to the US that everyone in the world (other than educated Westerners) believe you ARE part of "America".
Brits always say "alteatst the whole world doesn't hate the UK like they do America' well thats because you ARE "America' in the eyes of the world.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." If people would keep referring to a rose as "America" then eventually the word "America" would become synonymous with the word "rose", and whenever one would mention the word "America" others would think of a rose. The United States of America don't need a formal, separating name because they already have a few: US, USA, America, etc. Are these names unique? No, but when these names are mentioned people know which country one is referring to. So these words serve their purpose, they make people think about the country that the utterer wants them to think about. The fact that there are other United States or other nations in America is irrelevant since the words "US" and "America" aren't commonly associated with them.

Well, I can, maybe because I wasn't born in the US.
What I can't imagine someone saying is:
-I'm American.
-Really, from which part?
-Paraguay.

See I don't care if people hate my country, or hate me as an American. I'm secure with my nationality and I don't need to approval foreign countries to feel good about myself and my homeland.
I don't really think Canada and Britain are pathetic exactly, that was an exageration on my part. But the fact is that Canada and Britain are greatly overshadowed and insignificant compared to the prowess, influence, and power that the US has. But part of the reason the US is so powerful is because the US does have influence in Canada and Britain.
And i'm sorry to say The rest of the world doesn't think Everyone from the west are americans, thats what you would like to think. Your fuckin pathetic. Stop filling every post with you anti-world bollocks. Your not making Your beloved country look good, Your making it look ignorant and pathetic.
All those anti Americans you see burning US flags in the middle east usually DO consider all western countries to be part of the US. They believe the US controls all the western countries and therefore they believe everything that is done by these countries is just an extension of the American Government.
Read up about what Iran has been saying lately through Middle Eastern Media. Remember that package of incentives that Germany, UK, and France gave to Iran to persuade them not to continue enriching Uranium? The package that the US had NOTHING to do with? Irans President Ahmed Ahmadinejad rejected it as "American seduction" and never even mentioned the names of the European countries that were the people who really made the incentives. He never once said that he rejected what the UK, Germany, or France proposed, he just labeled them all as "Americans". SO all the brainwashed Arabs and Muslims in the Middle east hate America for something Europe did, this is true for many things that have happened in the past. America is the focus of all the blame, America is the focus of all the attention, therefore America is blamed for all the worlds problems and hated by the worlds people because of it. When really Europe would be just as hated if people around the world knew better.
Once again I am not anti-world. There are good people from every country, but the thing is, most people in the world are misinformed, misguided, and brainwashed, atleast all the anti-Americans who are misinformed enough to believe everything bad that happens in the world (things that are done by Europeans) is planned by the US.
Please say not all americans are like you!!
Only the smart ones, the ones who don't go out of their way to be polite to the likes of you. People who try and avoid hurting the feelings of the likes of you, who don't withhold the truth. Many people who AREN'T American believe the same thing I do, including alot of Europeans, Arabs, and Asians whom I studied with in Germany.

See, the thing is, while the rest of the America's were colonies of the Europeans, we were the first United States of America.

I don't really have any idea what the hell you people are talking about at this point but as to the idiotic non-issue of Canadians and Mexicans who feel bad that they don't have a term that identifies them as members of a particular continent, couldn't they just call themselves North Americans? It actually seems that would be more propper anyways so as not to confuse residents of North and South America with a blanket term like Americans.
