Administration cautiously hopeful it can win necessary votes for U.N. Iraq ultimatum
By SCOTT LINDLAW
ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON, March 9 — Secretary of State Colin Powell says he is within "striking distance" of rounding up the U.N. Security Council votes needed to pass an ultimatum giving Saddam Hussein until March 17 to prove Iraq has disarmed.
But he said he would not be surprised by a French veto. Such a step by France, he warned, would "have a serious effect on bilateral relations, at least in the short term." Powell said he could not be sure where two other veto-bearing nations, Russia and China, stood on a vote that could take place as early as Tuesday.

Well, it seems like a possibility now, since Putin said he wouldn't use his veto; China won't for economic and world-opinion reasons; and France has recently said that it will not exercise use of its veto power. That takes care of all of the big anti-war people. Seems like the United States and its bullying has worked again.

So, we may actually get the resolution passed? That would be great. More international support for eliminating a brutal dictator and his weapons of mass destruction. Also, if the resolution passes, the UN will be able to come out of this without looking like a bunch of fools. Maybe the French are worried about looking like fools after the US rolls in, disposes of Saddam, and finds ridiculous amounts of weapons that the inspectors had no clue were even there?
And to be brutally honest, did anyone honestly believe that France was going to show up the United States on the world stage? :)

You know, I started off as possibly the biggest Anti-War advocate on here. Gradually, though, as Hans Blix (that evil tub) came forward with all of the stuff he has been hiding, and all of the missiles that have appeared, and everything I've SEEN through the various forms of media, my views have wavered. Iraq...no...Saddam Hussein needs to be dealt with, but a full-on invasion is not the way to do it. A few strategic attacks directly at HIM and the Republican Guard would do the trick.
And on another note: no, France doesn't have the ability to show up the United States. They know that we're the reason they didn't end up saluting the Nazi flag (for too long, anyway). They just wanted to get their names in the papers. Their leader is a fascist, for chrissakes. A known fascist.
nazi flag??
so who is behind this war all ultimatum
