They premeired his new comedy special on HBO earlier tonight. Basically he just screamed like an idiot for an hour and a half straight. How did this guy get so popular again?

I think he's pretty clever. He's has some very funny skits, and what makes him great is that a lot of the stuff he talks about is pretty original. Not some revamped joke or stereotype.
Some people think he's funny, some people think he's not. Personally, I think he's hilarious. Other people think Charlie Chaplin is hilarious, but I don't find him funny at all. It's all about peoples sense of humor, don't complain about other peoples opinions. Dane Cook just does what he does, if people find him funny, live with it.

Yeah I saw it on TV and was like "Hmm...this must be new", but I didn't watch it. I'll grab it and watch it another time, mainly because up in my room I don't have HBO, and my TV is older than I am anyway.

I made that joke up dumbass. It took me less than 15 seconds. My point is that his humor is very generic and takes no effort at all.
I'm guessin your style of humour just doesn't match to Dane's.
You were probably most likely expecting really clever puns or well-thought out stories or whatever. That's not really what Dane's about...although he does come up with clever ideas.
Dane's more about just the pure energy and delivery of the jokes. And brutally painful honesty. :P

He is fantastic, because he can take the most ordinary boring stories and turn them into stretched out epic, animated stories, and laugh your ass about the most smallest details. it's just how he explains things and gets into it. the whole yelling and acting like he is on crack is what voices his stories the way that it can only make such a poitnless story seem to have a point.
