Yup. :'( That missed the mark a little bit.

This is quite a shock, even to me, and I don't get shocked that often. He was actually a good television personality and I can't believe he was killed by a sting ray and not a crocodile or venomous snake. It just goes to show how dangerous sting rays can be. Fuck.

This is kind of rare. I've never heard of a stingray death.

it's just so surprising that he died by bad luck when he managed to survive against highly dangerous creatures through luck and skill.

The way he behaved made him famous because of doing so. Although I actually never liked him - or his shows - I knew who he was. And yes, perhaps the typical Aussie.

we talked abou steve all night, the two girls i was with refused to believe that he was really dead :( i didn't believe it either at first. we just watched conan wrestle with steve, and it filled me with sorrow. steve, we love you man. you were always crazy, and a hoot to watch. i hope there's lots of crocs for you to wrestle in heaven man. i can't believe he's really dead.

we were talking about it, and one of the girls said he should have been eaten by a croc, but we all know steve would never die to a croc, he's got them at his command.

RIP steve, once again. you'll be missed man, we friggin love you :(

Seriously, mad respect to his loved ones and family. I always saw him getting taken out by a crocodile or maybe one of Australia's famous deadly insects/reptiles/jellyfish. Nope, just a pissed off stingray.

He was such a good natured man that he's laugh along with you guys with these jokes. He told conan he wanted to die in his work, even joking that his final moment would be saying "crickey" into a camera before being swallowed.
What isn't known as widley is that any money he made off of being "the croc hunter" went straight into conservation. He lived entirly off of running his zoo.
He was one of the best examples conservation could have. This is a guy who always had a smile on his face, could go through any shit you put infront of him and cared about the work. A great man.
