Great Quote on Democracy 2001-05-22 22:18:13 Reply

Here's a great quote on democracy. It was taken from a page with quotes about women ( http://www.theabsolute.net/minefield/womqts.html )

Democracy is woman's greatest invention. Indeed, it even reflects her character: purposeless, irrational, subject to public opinion and passing fashions, rambling, confused, underhanded, scheming, in love with its own purity.

Why do I get the feeling I should be offended? ;)

Quote of the day: @Nysssa "What is the word I want to use here?" @freakapotimus "Taint".

That quote is quite representative of Democracy, I won't comment on it in relation to women...

Socertices once said "Democracy is dangerous in the hands of the weak minded". Anybody who's been in the deep South knows what kind of Trailer Park Trash inhabit America (ever hear of the KKK?). I scared, dude...

It's stupid to say women invented democracy. It's also stupid to say men invented democracy. Democracy evolved from nescessity.

Well Technically, The penguin ( stuffed animal ) acually is an anarchist. He's the one that types the " fuck you stuff " and I'm the one that's nice.

Anarchy: It's a quote. Obviously, democracy was invented by men, since it was invented in classical Athens, and you had to be a landowning, Athenian male to vote.

If anything is stupid, it's saying that democracy evolved out of necessity. No form of government evolves from any form of necessity except the necessity for certain people to have power. Democracy is merely about redistributing the power away from a monarch or tyrant. That having been said, in the world's great representative democracies (I don't know of any direct democracies), it could cynically be argued that democracy is really oligarchy. Democracy is not a necessity though. Plenty of nations have, and do, survive without democracy.

Anything that is controlled primarially by the people is very susceptible to corruption by those in power spreading propaganda. For example, special interest groups and the media, with political agendas.
