O.K, if you look like a working man, a normal looking kid, or a redneck, you don't get stoped by a cop and get searched with out permission! If you are black, a punk, a goth, or whatever, you'll get blamed for all kinds of shit! and don't give me that "well america is the free'est country out there" bullshit! Please let me know I am not the only one who thinks this way!

Yeah, it's a damn shame we have all these "laws," why can't we be like the Communist states...they always end up so free and liberal, just like Karl Marx's beautiful dream...except for when millions are massacred....but that's a small price to pay for being allowed to steal someone's TV.

This country is a lot better than being dragged out of your house in the middle of the night and "erased" from the records like our buddy Uncle Joe did to people. It's a lot better than MOST countries here.

Perhaps you should move to Iraq and find out what a real dictatorship is like. Be sure to look for any of those "absurd laws" while you're there.

You guys ever watch COPS? You know what amazes me - every time some dude gets pulled over with drugs or guns or whatever in his car, he always gives up his right to protection from unreasonable search. I mean, if you have 50 pounds of pot in your trunk, and the cop asks you (which they always do) "mind if I search your car", for the love of god, say NO! If you're pulled over for speeding, having a broken taillight, being black or whatever, the cops do NOT have a right to search your car. Just say "I'd rather you didn't" and if they give you a hard time tell them you are just exercising your constitutional rights. If they search your car anyways, you have a case to get the evidence thrown out. Anyways, just thought I'd give a friendly tip to everyone :p

well, cops can see whether or not you are suspicious or not. they are trained to read voices and body language. so whenever they see someone acting in such a way that they would deem suspicious, they'll ask to check their car, and they can refuse. most people who have something to hide will try to make it seem like they have nothing so they allow it (before they run away as the cop moves towards the trunk).

Reasonable Suspicion is the best law out there. It catches those stupid people right in their tracks. Mwahaha. You can also reject an alcohol test, but you'll get arrested.

Is it illegal to refuse an alcohol test? Or is it just an automatic failure, meaning you'll get thrown in jail for DWI or DUI? Not that it makes a lot of difference, just wondering.

that isn't true. i refused a breathalizer and did not get arrested for DUI. i was actually fumbling to get some tissue for my girlfriend and swerved on the road. it was 3 am on a saturday night so i guess it makes sense for the cop to pull me over. probable cause at its finest.

"If you're driving in the city at 3 in the morning, it would be odd not to be pulled over." - Law professor.

That just seemed so perfect for the moment.

better how? where else can you find the same civil liberties as the US? saying "it couldn't be better" and not really saying how it could be is ludicris. it's like having sex with no foreplay. painful for eveyone. unless of course you wouldn't know...which is possible. no offense of course. or if you do know, i don't imagine you are large enough to make a difference.

reminds me of a sex and the city episode (my gf watches it. i don't even know the girls name i'm even telling the story about) when the diet pepsi commercial lady really likes this guy and they were abstaining from sex for a little bit, and when the time finally came, they were making out and she said something like, "i'm ready for you to come in!" and he replied, "i already am..."

No sullivan, you're the only one.

Even though it may be a stereotype, but from what I've seen, all of the so called "punks" in my school are all fucking douchebags. Usually being a dickhead in class, doing many illegal things, it would be legit for cops to suspect them because for some reason, most of them like to have anarchists symbols on thier denim jackets. The truth is, these dipshits don't actually know what the fuck they are talking about, becasue they've either done enough drugs to kill an elephant, or just fucking morons. If you don't like the country, get the fuck out. If I ruled over this country, all these assholes would get a brick to the face and a ticket to afganistan, fucking idiots.

Another thing about government....

Canadian people who speak out against the US, when they don't even fucking live here...are you kidding me?

Hey asshole, you don't know shit, shut your stupid fucking mouth. What do you care if our president doesn't make the best decisions, nothing you do will change what happens, and he's doing better than you would cock.

Oh man I hate people.

Im not familiear with America being a dictaturship since I dont live there, but its my oppinion that America is starting out a dictaturship over the entire world, I live in Europe and last time we had an EU/meeting America tried to force us into accepting Turkey as a member even though they dont follow the rules we have set as a standardfor membership.
Also America loans out so many money to poor states, but with the interest rate they require most poor countries cant even pay for them, I think thats just an wxcuse to hold possible enemies at their knees, I think if America just controlled a bit more of the economic market everyone would be dancing Americas dance. This dictaturship allready started with the Koreanwar, America didnt want them to turn kommunist so they entered the war, it seems to me in a democratic state everyone should have the right to choose their own governmenttype, but apperantly they couldnt.
Go to the American politics forum and write your oppinion, this is really just a resume, in that forum alot more have been written.

Unfortunately, the constitution states that all men were created equal, however it never said all men will be treated equal...

Noam Chomsky said once that if a dictator were to rise up, it would most likely be in America. And if you look around, you see how it could be true. Some Americans already think they are living in a dictatorship, saying things like whatever the president says goes. Saying things like even if they are wrong, you need to support the government. Americans are also willingly giving up rights for safety. The Patriot Act I is just a steping stone to taking away civil liberties. America is only America because of these rights, and with out them it surely could become a dictatorship.

Be careful of the "Patriot" Act II. It was said that shortly after the war is started it will be introduced, so that it will have support. This act is an attrocity, and goes even further than the first one. It allows secret arrests and suspension of the Miranda rights. Also, it allows cops access to all personal files. There are a few other parts to it, but they haven't been shown yet. This bill will allow for anyone to be arrested and imprisoned for up to 20 years without them ever being told what for or even convicted of that crime.

Security over civil liberties will undoubtably lead to a dictatorship.

wow guys i'm starting to believe that the time between the end of the cold war and the war on terrorism has spoiled us to believe that we can be safe without screwing someone over...unfortunately the Monroe Doctrine is no more so we have to be involved...

Speaking of Communism, has anyone read the translated (or, hell, untranslated if you like) version of Mao's Little Red Book? I flipped through it awhile ago, and I have to say, the cheese had slid just a bit off his cracker when that one was published.

It's a nice piece of history though, the 1967 version. Picked up the original and translated for $50.
