I bet many people here never knew that a holiday that they celebrate every year originated in Canada.

Labour Day: the holiday Canada gave the world
http://www.nupge.ca/news_2003/n01se03a.htm

So when you're out there celebrating or just sitting at home enjoying the long weekend, remember to thank Canada for this international holiday :P

Labour Day Weekend: Thank Canada

Eh, but we spell ours without the "u." That gives us more time to party rather than write 1 more letter.

Yes, Canada owns, but I'm just a country boy living in Texas. Mexicans own Canadians any day of the week.

Other than spelling the word "Labor" wrong, I'm down.

LoL. "Labour" ---- Lay-boo-er "Labor" ---- Lay-bore
Which one is right? How do you pronounce it?

Technically, we spell "labour" wrong, seeing how the spelling originated in England; birthplace of English.

They'll probably just forget about this and go back to thinking that Labour Day is an American holiday and say things like "what did Canada ever invent? All I know of is maple syrup, igloos and hockey" :P

Yeah I know, the point of this thread is that it originated in Canada... and Labour is spelt with "our" in every other English nation except the U.S.

Canadian: colour
American: color

Canadian: armour
American: armor

...and so on.

Did I say it was our biggest claim to fame? It's just one of numerous others, most of which you probably don't even know of.

Also, no meaning? Funny how so many Americans celebrate it then. I know my uncle in North Carolina takes everyone on a trip down to Myrtle Beach every Labour Day weekend. How many international long weekends is the U.S. responsible for?

Oh, jesus. I had to paraphrase a 2-page story on the history of Labour Day.

You can only imagine how entertaining that was.

I've been neglecting the BBS I've come to realize.
