Yeah, but you'll have to draw it, not just a tool...

You can turn that item to a MC and then duplicate it, place it a little bit differently than the original and change the alpha lower

Nah, that effect bothe sucks and lags.

The best way is to save a few frames of blur in some separate image editing program, then import them back into Flash.

Soften fill edges only really works on single fills; and they need their own layers for it not to suck.

By far the best method suggested yet (other than using an external package). Requires a lot of FBF work to pull it off effectively though.

I disagree. Soften Fill Edges does not make a good blur effect. In my opinion, the photoshop idea was best (As you've said already, I think.) because you can actually pull off more realistic blurs by using external programs. I recomment the Gimp. Its a pretty big program if you're going to be just blurring stuff, but it's freeware, and can do to images what audacity does to sound files and so, so much more.

Yeah, the only real use I've found for it is in glowing effects, which it actually pulls off exceedingly well. I've made heavy use of areas of bright light and darkness which glow outwards for a cool effect in the thingy I'm currently working on (it still sucks :P).

If there's another use for it, someone please tell me.

I'll tell ya, it's not the best, cuz MX isn't supposed to do it.

Make a circle with the circle tool with a black line. Make a new color in the collor panel, make it radial, now make the inside of the circle orange, and under the r, g, and b, there's alpha, set the alpha to aroung 70-90. No make the outside of the circle white, with and alpha of around 20-40. Fill the circle, and with the black arrow tool, select and delete the black line. It kinda looks like a blur, but it's the closest you can get in MX.

soften fill edges sucks and when your graphics become more complex flash fucks it up and doesnt know how to soften it.

i dont trust it.
