I'd say Metal Intros > Rock Intros.
For example Hell Was Made in Heaven by Helloween has approximately a minute and half worth of intro time played higher up on fret board and is far far more melodic than anything rock can come up with in a lifetime. Let's see Enemy Within by Arch Enemy has one of the coolest intros ever. Keyboards playing in the beginning making a creepy yet melodic intro that lasts until the drums kick in. With the rythm guitar coming grinding the first set of chords. Then comes the lead guitar with an amazing melodic intro that makes the whole crowd shake with excitment, then the double bass kicks in going full brrrr...
Go look up Helloween, Iron Maiden, Stratovarius or Blind Guardian if you want some mouth watering killer intros, and if you want something that'll drive you wild. Go look up the video for Enemy Within by Arch Enemy on youtube.
Lastly the only songs that I can see that hold any leverage over Metal as for intros go are "Sweet Child of Mine" and "Paradise City" by Guns N' Roses.

Sheer creativity and cheeky cheesiness - dragonforce -fury of the storm
Sheer menace and just, mint ness - machine head - davidian
Sheer beauty - pantera - cemetery gates.
Tho sweet child is mint, i got tired of it, i've yet to tire of these 3.
