Chain mail is the stupidest thing

Why does everyone freakin believe in chain mail? It's completely stupid and superstitious. I mean look at this.

A few years ago,a mother and father decided they needed a break,so they wanted to head out for a night on the town.
So they called their most trusted babysitter.
When the babysitter arrived,the two children were already fast asleep in bed.
So the babysitter just got to sit around and make sure everything was okay with the children.
Later at night,the babysitter got bored and went to watch tv
but she couldn't watch it downstairs because they didnt have cable downstairs
(the parents didn't want the children watching too much garbage).
So she called them and asked them if she could watch cable in the parents' room.
Of course the parents said it was ok,
but the babysitter had one final request.
She asked if she could cover up the clown satue in their bedroom
with a blanket or cloth,because it made her nervous.
The phoneline was silent for a moment,
(and the father who was talking to the babysitter at the time)
said....take the children and get out of the house....
we'll call the police...we don't have a clown statue...
the children and the babysitter got murdered by the clown.
It turned out to be that the clown was a killer that escaped from jail.
If u don't repost this within 5 minutes
the clown will be standing next to your bed at 3:00 am
with a knife in his hand.

What the heck...I've gotten so many things like this and it just comes down to crappy spam that some wimps who are scared of the dark believe in.
People turn on your brains a random clown won't come kill you if you don't repost something.

Chain mail isn't a steel plate, it's armor made from links of smaller parts of metal.
Also, it isn't as effective against piercing, so if you foined with your sword, it would perhaps break the mail. Also, a strong enough hit with a blunt metal weapon or a sword could also probably break part of the mail. It would in the least, hurt.

yes, but i said steel plate, not chainmail, in response to his medievel statement. chain mail wont stop a stab, unless the rings were very very very very very very very close together, to the point it might as well be plate.
if it was too thick, or too light, it would kill the purpose of wearing it, right?
most likely, a stab would at most puncture skin, not too far though, but striking it to the point it would break, the persons bones/vital organs would be screwed beyond healing anyway.
