There has been some controversy over Sony's PSP ad on the new white model for the PSP. Some say it is politically incorrect. Here is the ad that is being talked about, although more photographs have been taken for it.
Seeing it for an artistic point of, I would say the photograph itself is awesome. As a civilian, I don't find it necessarily racist but sexist (women seen as mere objects). What do you think?

I agree. I understand how people can find it sexist, but not racist.
Acknowledging people’s differences is not racism.

I think it's a bad ad in general. I feel no need to go out and buy a PSP.
So, I don't think about it.

It's sexist because it has two women and um... well there's gotta be something wrong with it.
It's racist of course because white people cannot engage in fair combat with black people because God forbid if they win then redneck somewhere might be able to say, "Ha, I told you."

The ad would be okay if there was also an ad where the black woman was dominant and also one where the two were on equal footing.

It must REALLY be a slow news day when people decide to pick on video game advertisments.

It's an even slower day when they pick on a month old ad that was shown in Europe that has allready prompted an apology from Sony. They should have known better than to show a racially charged ad in a country that doesn't really give a crap about race, the whiny Americans were bound to find out eventually.

There is another one where the black woman is in the dominent postition...
But of course no-one picks up on that. I can't even find it on google images.

If it's this... yeah--
The only PSP commercials I find rather racey are the "Squirrel pu-lease!" and the Mexican dust balls...
And wasn't there the Jewish mice one?
Hey... I dunno...
We should get a bunch of talking Ritz crackers that say, "PSP: Git her don..."

Here's the other one.
Why it might be considered as sexist?
1) Catfight
2) Why is it two women (!?!) in black and white and not just the video game system itself?
I really hope you aren't referring to me posting this post about "Americans making this a big deal". It's been real controversial this week and I was just wondering what everyone thought of the ads personally.
I think I asked to "keep the conversation civil". Attacking Americans (again) is not only unfair, it's really stupid.

Would you have a problem if it was two men fighting?

Why does any advert have anything other than the product itself? What's wrong with having women in adverts?

But until there is an ad where they are on equal footing is created it's still racist. You definitely will not find it, even if you do a google search for "Sony psp ad"

It depends. Are the men scantily-clad and have their "claws" out to insinuate clawing? To tell you the truth, it would probably be a problem because then it would be a black man and a white man fighting. People would be just as offended (in the wrong way). If men were put in this ad with their fists and their shirts off while they sweat and wrestle on the ground, it would be just as sexist (in my opinion).1
2) Why is it two women (!?!) in black and white and not just the video game system itself? Why does any advert have anything other than the product itself? What's wrong with having women in adverts?
Why can't it be about the product itself? This could have been done different and lot better (I think expertly drawn black and white dragons would have been a lot more nicer looking). It's bad taste not only because of the positions the women are in, but also because Sony wanted people to either be offended or intrigued by its racy imagery.
I understand the ying and yang thing are trying to get across. The pictures are beautiful taken. But I can't get it out of my mind how both men and women are used in such stereotypical view. If the women would be in different fighting poses (without their hands in a claw position) and the "white psp" was dressed a little bit more approriately, then I wouldn't see a big problem with it.

Please look above. I found the picture. Here's the third one where they have equal footing (but it didn't make it to the final ad cut)

I don't see how.
Showing one individual of race X as dominent over another individual of race Y is not racist unless it implies that the reason for the first individual being dominent is due to their race.
This advert does not so that, and thus is not racist.

Well, from the looks of the three pictures it looks like my original objection is invalid.

I really see nothing sexist/racist about it. Just because it has 2 black and white women doesn't mean it's sexist. Sexist would be "If you buy a PSP, hot women will have sex with you and cook you meals".
Though I have to say, I don't see what the ad has to do with a hand held gaming system. Hell, the talking chipmunks aren't half bad compared to this.

You have a strange view of sexism. Although sexism is commonly viewed as "the hatred of women" it's also about the poor image of women. It's just not about women being used as sex objects and household items. It's about viewing a woman as a stereotype.
Why am I the only one who notices the way they have their hands clawed at each other? Please don't tell me that it doesn't mean catfight, because I'm thinking Sony meant to portray it just as that. When you see men fight do you automatically think catfight. No, because it's term usually associated with a female fight. I also believe that this ad was especially meant for men and not meant for women.
That's thing. It has nothing to do with the PSP themselves. Sony is just being an attention whore company and they are really bad at.

Which is exactly what I said. Cooking for men and having sex with them are very common stereotypes.

Claw shaped hands can, in many cases, be related to a meriad of martial arts forms. I don't know, but wouldn't thinking that saying when two women fight, it's a cat fight because it's a stereotype; is a little sexist?
:No, because it's term usually associated with a female fight. I also believe that this ad was especially meant for men and not meant for women.
I don't see how it's directed at men. Usually, when two men fight, it's directed at men. With that same logic, this may be directed at women. Look, you're looking way too into this. That women has a cross for a necklace, does that mean this is directed at Christians? I doubt it. I think it's more about the fight between black and white (colors, not racists), two opposites. This would be a pretty good piece of art, but it's really not a good ad. At all.

Attention whore: Maybe. Need better advertisers: Yes
