Garage Band/ Logic Thread 2006-08-28 16:56:09 Reply

Okay I searched the Audio forum and there are no Apple music threads. My Apple Music Center got deleted buit I am willing to overlook that IF this thread survives. There are too many people who ned help with Garage band and Logic and we need a thread for them to talk to each other in. SO HERE IT IS.

Ask any questions you have about Logic/Garage band. They will both be in one thread because A)They're both Apple products, B)Logic is fully compatible and utilizes many of the same features as Garage Band, C)Those wishing to cross-over from Garage Band to Logic will be able to learn all the tricks of Logic and make the transition easily.

So, here it is. I am very in Garage band 2.0( as all but 1 of my songs in the AP are made with GB) and I have a pretty good handle on Logic as well. I can pretty much answer any questions or point people to a source that can help.

And, thats it. GO!

Open the Editor by clicking on the little scissors icon in the bottom left corner. It opens a piano rol/waveform editor. Then just start placing notes by holding the Apple key and clicking!

I've gotta say I like Logic much better. Garage band is harder to use once you get used to Logic.

Both of them, however, are fantastic midi machines.

At last, the prejudice is ending!!

Having not used Logic (which I have heard pwns most programs) and having no real music setup, or any hardware, in fact NOTHING but my MacMini and speakers, I find Garage Band really does the job quite nicely. You are not limited to using the loops, and I rarely ever do (only one of mine submitted uses a couple). If you can receive a pre-nom for best music from AVN using Garage Band, it can't be that bad a program really!</self-whore>

Both Garage Band and Logic are extremely good programs. I've talked to a lot of seriously awesome professional musicians and they all use Logic (some also reWire it to Reason and/or Digital Performer). Just to name a few:

John Keane (composer for CSI: )
VNV Nation
The Cruxshadows
Ego Likeness

Those are the ones I can think of right now. Logic is pretty much the best for its price. If you want to go all out and buy Digital Performer or other super-duper crazy programs, go ahead, but Logic is more than enough for almost anybody.

I think Garage Band is easier to use unless you are used to the massive flexibility and capacity of Logic. Then GB is just damn frustrating. Both have stunning results though. Plus GB has to be good, because Logic uses GB components for its basic instruments and effects.

Garage Band is good, but not if it's before 2.0. My version is crap, but I'm finding ways to get by on it. I rarely use any of the preset instruments because they are crap. Someday I'll get a better computer and I'll be getting me some Logic. You guys make it seem so secksy.

All iLife packages now come with Garage Band 2, so that's no biggy.

Actually iLife 06 they released GB 3.0 Now GB has video syncing, multi-track simultaneous recording, new instruments and, improved effciency. So GB is slowly moving towards what Logic already does. IF ONLY THEY WOULD ADD SOME GODDAMN TEMPO AUTOMATION!!!

I'm kinda pissed that none of the versions have that. There are a lot of songs that I have ideas for but would take forever if I had to do all the tempo changes manually.

logic can go up to thousands of BPMs (which is cool but pointless) MUCH better effects, more effect slots, automated tempo and time signature change, video syncing penis enlargement, and a free pair of breasts ready for fondling (they're 34Ds your choice of skin tone, nipple length/size and areola size). it really is the sexiest audio program on the market.
