i wondered if someone could help me with this.....i bought a squier p-bass when i was a beginner (which i still am) and i've just realized that it has a really high action compared with the ones at my school, if i lower the string sadels ( or whatever they're called then the strings just buzz after about fret 15 or 17, is there an easy way of solving this, or will i have to take it to a shop to be done? if so, how much will it cost?
thanks

from what i can tell, this is an easy do it yourself job. All you'll need is an allen wrench that fits into the top of your bridge. This will allow you to control the action of each string individually. If they're all roughly the same distance from the fretboard, you may consider adjusting the truss rod. You can find this in the head of your bass. All it takes is another allen wrench and you can adjust that. Just remember to take some tension off of the strings before doing this.

Both of these are really easy adjustments you can do yourself. If you don't have any, allen wrenches will run you about 95 cents at your local hardware store. It's a good investment.

PLEASE don't touch your truss rod if you don't know what you're doing! They are ridiculously easy to break my friend, and for the most part, uneccesary to touch unless your neck is bowed.

It sounds to me like your neck is a tad too far back...what you can do is take the neck off, and put a very tiny shim (a piece of paper will do, maybe folded over a few times) at the top of the neck joint. Then you put your neck back on and the buzzing should be gone. What this does is it props the neck forward ever so slightly, allowing your strings to clear the problem frets.

why couldnt you just buy a fretless guitar, and put like strips of colored tape where the frets should be?

It might be best to take it into a guitar shop and let a tech look at it, if he's good he'd probably do something pretty simple like that for free. Better to let a pro sort it than wreck it yourself.

you said it leans in slightley? well, first, if you have ever done this before, get someone who knows what there doing, to adjust your truss rod. i can tell you havent since you are asking us. but if you dont want to take my advice, turn it counterclockwise very slightley, and play, do that untill its sounding good. and dont fuck it up.

and mr colored tape, dont be an idiot. the tape will severly hamper the sound of the guitar(or bass, in this senario) seeing as how it is a piece of highley absobent material, thats why they use metal.

Im god, fucking deal with it!

Take it to a shop.

I broke my guitar, took it in...They retuned it, polished it and fixed it up nice...all for around <20$ ...

(my wires where you connect the cord into the guitar to make noise come out of the amp broke or w/e and they had to cedar(spellcheck?) them back together)
