It seems like alot of the flash authors don't really want varied, interesting music and they don't seem to have a good grasp of the resources and money required for good recording. It makes it kinda pointless to post stuff in the audio portal if your just gonna get slammed for not having access to $1000 mics and a neuve console.
Regarding sound FX: The audio portal probably needs something similar to the Flash portal where content is self-policed by users. This is no small order on the backend, so your suggestion to have a limited offering seems a sensible place to start until the cost of doing something more discriminating can be justified by the site economics.
Carrying junk just makes it harder to find the good stuff.
Regarding MP3 vs. WAV: Add a tutorial on how to convert WAVs to MP3s, and restrict the offering to MP3s until the site economics justify the broader offering.
as far as i'm concerned, i'd prefer the sound selection zips. i just don't have all day to browse sound fx.
so yes, please give us sound-packs.
Oh, so its time for another, Tom's Cash Rush where you toss large amounts of the money the faithful members of NG support you with into another failed venture?
Oh boy, here we go with some new problem of the future... today! porn, stickers, and now audio portal. Hmm, why not work on improving your current project namely... Newgrounds.com.
Where are the mascot updates huh? Nope your too busy right? Come on, just tell us whats going on and stop fucking around. Give us the dam truth!
Sure, these lame side projects lost alot but are pocket change to you right? Give the people what they want!
My two cents. If you limit submissions to mp3's you will also limit the amount of submissions. As of right now, anyone with a computer can create a wav file, but not every joe is smart enough to figure out how to make that wav into an mp3. This in effect would be a good thing because then you wouldn't get as many people submitting stuff that wasn't theirs.
I agree it would be stupid too have 50 of the same thing when it could be kept in organized zip files.
Well I think the Audio Portal should be kinda like the flash portal with the whistle thing. So people can whistle when something copyrighted or really bad is uploaded instead of waiting for people to approve it.
Also bans should only last for 3 months, to 6 months, or a year. So that when they first get banned they learn the rules and are given a 2nd chance. And if they break the rules 3 or more times, then they can be banned for life or something like that.
