Inserting line returns into a db?

lol, I know I have alot of recent questions but these are things that I havn't seen covered in alot of tutorials. One question I have now is how to go about converting the line returns in a message box to the <br> html in order to stop all of my messages from looking condensed.

Again I apologize for all the questions, especially since I'm attacking it from all aspects of php-MySql, but I'm a designer not a programmer, lol... so I just need to learn what something requires to work.
